If I may air my frustration for a sec..

Link-o-rama.com is incredibly hard to get listed on. I know, it's your site and you have to draw the line somewhere etc, but you have to realize that only the oldtimers will be able to walk this thin red line.

This last time the reason was "template overused", which seems funny because (to my knowledge) only *one* submission of mine has ever been accepted at link-o-rama.com... which used another template. And no, I'm not an amateur. Never had any complaints or problems at any other site/service, paid or otherwise.

So I redid the template and resubmitted.

"Template overused". Darn I forgot to change the galleries' colors. My bad.

This time I made an entirely new design, with a new layout, new texts, different pageflow, the works, and resubmitted.

"Connection issues". Well. The freesite is on a fast dual-core dual-cpu server with a low load avg. The only thing hosted on another server is the recip on the galleries. So I guess that must've been lagging at the time (logs show stats were running).

So I resubbed again - this time with a comment as I feared the reviewer was getting less and less amused by my persistence :)

"Template is overused".

Hum. This template has never been seen before (apart from rejecting it just before). It's completely different from anything I've ever subbed - up to and including fonts and warning texts.

I'm at my wits end. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the free submissions, don't expect any "level of service" and certainly don't doubt the honesty of the reviewers.

Question 1: If reviewers dislike the content (sex with older men - nothing dodgy though - not even remotely), will they just say so, instead of sending you off at a wild goose chase?

Question 2: Is it good practice to try and remedy a "rejection reason" and resubmit?

Question 3: Is link-o-rama.com worth my while? I've been trying to find out, but, well, can't get anything listed.

Quick question. If someone submits a picture gallery of a black woman posing in her clothes, what category does it belong to? Black Sex, Black Movies, Black Lesbians, and Black Nudes don't seem to be right.

Or are non-nude galleries rejected outright (even if the sponsor's page is hardcore)?

Q1 - if a reveiwer does not like you content there then there is nothing you can do - its hardlines

Q2 - depends - if the site who rejected you send you traffic and you want that traffic then yes, however sometimes its better to just let that site go and move on trying not to make the same mistakes.

We all get rejected thats part of the game, the LL with the higher traffic have more submits so can be more critical and choosey.

You asked if its worth subing to Link O Rama - look around at this board all these people who are here know the value of not only submiting to LOR but also the site the webmasters here have.

Also if you can make the listing on LOR then 9 times of 10 you will get listed everywhere else, use GG's rules to build by and the rest really is easy. On the subject of design the most important thing its sticking to the basic rules while building, 3 links per page, 12 pics per page / 2 mins movie per page, about 9 / 12 recips all of which should have no more then 2 links blah blah - the rest will just come with experience.

Im still a newbie in my eyes I don't have all the answers though I try to learn from my mistakes, like you I am trying to track downa listing and to see why and how I screwed up - just another day in the life of a webmaster |cheers|

1 - you'd get a rejection reason along those lines (reviewer is uncomfortable with content, contact webmaster, etc) We never reject a site & use a false reason to fuck with the submitter.
2 - yes


I don't list galleries, I list free sites. But to answer the question, a woman posing in clothes is not porn (unless it's lingerie) so no, I would not list it.

We're not reviewing the sponsor on your site, we're reviewing your site.

I know it's a popular site. That doesn't necessarily mean it's worth the effort (redesign, rebuild, resubmit just to find it rejected again 99% of the time). But I gather it is.

Maybe I just had a streak of bad luck. Coincidental connection issues followed by some grammar mistake and by that time the template is starting to look mighty familiar to the reviewer :)

I am thinking that if the market is so saturated and link-o-rama.com is that popular, maybe holding onto the free submission model isn't the best idea. I can definitely say Greenie is often missing out on some excellent content due to often minute mistakes that can be easily fixed. But hey, it's free, so why bother Greenie with it - we should be glad he's even considering including it on his site.

Thing is, I'd much rather pay for an account that offers more detailed rejection reasons. Something like "That sentence sounds funny to an American - pls rephrase it and the freesite should be fine". Or "connection issues: that recip on gallery X isn't loading".

On can hardly ask for that level of detail in a free submission model.

Jab - I looked at a handful of your free sites & they all look very similar, right down to the odd size of them thumbs on the gallery pages.

You're batting 3 for 34 with me - 31 sites with rejection reasons & now, yes, we are getting tired of your templates. There's not much we can do about connection issues - we can either get to the site or we get a No DNS error message.

We try to give the submitter as clear a reason as we can - and I have this page that gives you a little more info on the common rejection reasons.

All I can say is go back over the problems that you've been rejected for, spice things up a bit & keep trying - or just cross me off your submit list.

Thanks for the info. I replied in PM. In short: I'm aware many of my older submits look similar structure-wise - I just never got a "template overused" reason until recently, so I concentrated on the content. Also, I thought only accepted submissions would be considered when judging a design (for repetitiveness).

When I read the "template overused" reason, I redid the entire thing. Would you not consider my last submission quite different from all previous ones? I didn't redo the odd-sized thumbs, correct, but was convinced that was one of the strong points (I will gladly make them even-sized for you).

I will try going the extra mile for a while and see where it leads us.
