Now this is fucked up!

Conference USA promised "appropriate action" against the officials calling a technical foul on Houston coach Tom Penders, who had collapsed on the sidelines with 52.6 seconds to play in the first half.

Official John Hampton, thinking that Penders was reacting to a foul on the Cougars during Saturday's game at UAB, called a technical on the collapsed Houston coach.

Even when Penders was rushed off the court on a stretcher, the three-man crew refused to rescind the technical.

Breath easy Steeler fans!
And take comfort in the fact that “yours truly” will not be picking the Steelers to win the Superbowl.
Therefore avoiding the “kiss of sports death” that has been accompanying my picks as of late.
So I’ll just leave it at this, Go Steerlers :D

Bro, are you trying to piss off my avatar? :D Its been fun to be able to have it up this long. All my cousins and most of my other relatives are either long-suffering Patriots or incorrigable Cowboys fans and as the only Steelers fan in the bunch (since I was 9) this definitely feels good but a win on Sunday would be the icing on my proverbiable NFL cake. If they can pull it off who knows how long this could last - BR#7 is young and talented and with the exception of Jerome retiring after the game, the Steelers could be a force to be reckoned with. If on the other the Seahawks prevail, there could be some changes in the works - the OC is getting some interest from other teams coupled with any free agent loses, firings or whatever. But for now, GO STEELERS GO! |thumb

The "Steeler-mania" is building here...LOL...am gonna drive the non-Steeler fanatics up the wall int he next 5 days, and hopefully beyond!

bluemoney 2006-01-31 12:48 PM

I hope the Steelers win. That's why I'm not going to jinx them by picking them.

Four days till the Superbowl. |bananna|

I convinced my sister-in-law to have a Superbowl Party (now if I could just convince her to get naked . . . but I digress) I got no “dog in this fight” but still an opportunity to get drunk and spin around on my eyebrows!

Anyone else got plans?

Who’s going to be MVP?

pornrex 2006-02-01 04:30 PM

Back in 95, I made the mistake of watching the game with a non-Steelers fan. You can be sure that won't happen this time.
|thumb
All in all, I'm really looking forward to this game - the Seahawks are starting to trash talk now trying to rile up the Steelers but my man Joey Porter isn't standing for it one bit. Besides, the Seahawks are desperate and will use any feable tactic to throw us off our game plan.

Should be a great game especially if the Steelers can shut down Alexander. I'm not worried about Hasselbeck because he's a 'lob' passer and manages to float most of his attempts which will give Troy plenty of time to pick him off.:D As long as Roethlisberger has enough time and coverage to execute, the Steelers should prevail. |headbang|

2006 NFL Hall of Fame Class

Troy Aikman, Harry Carson, John Madden, Warren Moon, Reggie White and Rayfield Wright were selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2318924

anasporn 2006-02-04 02:53 PM

Aikman, Moon, and "The Minister of Defense" all definitely deserve the nod. Madden still deserves to have his vocal cords removed, even though I no longer have to listen to his nonsensical drivel on Monday nights. Don't recognize the name Carson??

Torn Rose 2006-02-04 03:09 PM

Harry Carson's 13-year stint with the New York Football Giants is one of the longest tenures in club history. The indestructible former linebacker served as Team Captain for 10 of his 13 seasons including the 1986 season when the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 in Super Bowl XXI. Rated the #1 "Inside Linebacker" in NFL history according to Pro Football Weekly, Carson was named to the All-Rookie Team after his first NFL season. Subsequently, during his NFL career, he was named to the All-NFL Team 7 times, the All-NFC Team 8 times, and NFC Linebacker of the Year twice. He once made an amazing 25 tackles in a Monday Night Football Game against the Green Bay Packers. With performances like that he was selected by his peers to play in the NFC-AFC Pro Bowl 9 times and is among the top 300 players to ever play in the National Football League.

anasporn 2006-02-04 11:46 PM

Oh wow, good stuff. Thanks for bringing me up to speed, Torn. I never followed the Giants much at all...am an AFC woman myself ;) and a die-hard rabid STEELER fan to boot

BTW, no one stood out tonight so I have to think Parker will get the MVP.

It was Hasselbacks to win until he threw the INT and Big Bens has 2 INT's, Randel El has a great shot.

Girl first to win state prep wrestling title over boys

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2320537

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Michaela Hutchison became the first girl in the nation to win a state high school wrestling title while competing against boys.

Hutchison won the final of the 103-pound weight class during Alaska's big school wrestling championships. The Skyview High sophomore entered the state tournament ranked No. 1 in her weight class.

Amid chants of "C'mon, Michaela" and "Girl power," Hutchison earned a 1-0 victory Saturday over Colony High School's Aaron Boss.

She scored an escape with 16 seconds left to beat Boss for the second time in two weeks. Family and friends mobbed Hutchison as she walked away from the mat with a bloody nose, while the crowd rose in a standing ovation.

"They were helping me," Hutchison told the Anchorage Daily News.

She finished the season with a 45-4 record that included 33 pins, one shy of the state single-season record. Hutchison is the third in her family of 10 children to win a state title, joining brothers Zeb and Eli.

Can NFL an NCAA officiating get any worse? Its one thing to miss a play in real time but when you still get the "fucking play" wrong on the replay? |banghead|

Need to get rid of Fucktard officials to Insure Integrity of the game.

Torn Rose 2006-02-05 11:16 PM

Biggest issue I have with the NFL is not stopping the game clock to reset the chains on first downs, buy far the worst thing in the game.

Imagine the drama if the clock stopped while they reset the chains like in the NCAA, it's outrageous to think you can run out of time because the Refs can't set up a chain in time. The sudden death OT is sad too, but when the game can not continue due to the officials having to set up the chain, that is just wrong.

Yes, but not surprising.

anasporn 2006-02-06 09:37 AM

All I can say is they better not even THINK of trying to get Troy Palomalu to cut his hair...he might lose his power!

Yeah, the officiating sucked, but not as bad as the Colts-Steelers game. I think Parker should have gotten MVP, that spectacular run breathed new life into the game for Pittsburg. LOL And I had just got done telling the folks I was watching the game with, "If Parker can get out of the backfield he is goooone...." (explaining the nickname "Anti-Bus")

Money differences leave QBs out

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playof...ory?id=2321024

When the NFL unveiled its MVPs from the previous 39 Super Bowls, only three living members skipped the ceremony.

Former 49ers quarterback Joe Montana and former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw decided to stay home, while former Dolphins MVP Jake Scott was traveling in Australia.

Montana, the league's only three-time Super Bowl MVP, turned down the invitation over money, Newsday and the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Bradshaw, who told league officials that he wanted to be with his family, also took issue with the fees, the Chronicle reported. Bradshaw, through a representative, denied the Chronicle's report that there was a dispute over money.

Former MVPs were given $1,000 for incidental expenses while in Detroit, along with other amenities such as plane tickets, car rental and game tickets.

Sources told each paper that Montana asked for a guarantee of at least $100,000 in appearance money.

When the league balked at Montana's demands, the quarterback declined to be in attendance.

I was wondering where Joe and Terry were, I forgot about Jake Scott since I miscounted. I think they should have gotton more then $1000, but as much as I love Joe, $100k is too damn much as well.

I can see where he's coming from though, he'd rather be elsewhere unless they really make it worth his time.

Preacher 2006-02-06 11:40 AM

Just like in the playoff games, the Steelers love to give their fans heart attacks. Even with two minutes to go I was still sweating bullets!

Not the dominating victory I was hoping for, but I'll take it.

And as Ward is one of the most humble and under-rated receivers and one of the toughest blue collar receivers in the league, I'm very glad he got the honor! |thumb

Now, when's the draft? :D

Preacher 2006-02-06 11:43 AM

Keep in mind, Bradshaw's had some beef with the Steelers organization in the past, and while they say it's been resolved, I'm not 100% convinced, and maybe that had something to do with him not wanting to be there. |confused|

Rumor has it, that was Michaels call as he wanted to switch to NBC's Sunday night games to continue calling games with Madden, but had to break a very lucrative ESPN contract to do so.

Should be an interesting mix with Tirico & Kornheiser...but they kept Theisman?!?!?!

Okay, I wasnt aware of that. I just figured ESPN made a bad move (my bad :D )
I like Tirico but not a big fan of Kornheiser or Theisman. Could be worse!
Could have brought on Stewart Scott. Then it would be 3hrs. of "Booya", "Cool as the other side of the pillow" and referring to everyone as "dog".

Amen on the Stewart Scott comment.

What I like about Kornheiser is that he won't pull his punches, so it won't be the bland and boring, he'll cause some drama which might make for entertaining listening.

"Al Michaels appears headed to NBC after ESPN hired former quarterback Joe Theismann..."

"Al was not comfortable and let us know he was not comfortable with our vision of where we are going," ESPN executive vice president John Skipper said after Wednesday's announcement. "Back in November he said it was the greatest job ever invented. So sometime between the last couple of weeks and November apparently he had a change of heart."

Ok, as long as he his still doing football, I am still "freaked out" hearing him do basketball, I’m still not use to it, he just belongs to football.

I'm waiting to hear they replaced Hank on MNF now, maybe they will get the god awful duo ESPN has doing "College Game day" to ruin the intro to MNF as well.

No wait, I know, BRITNEY!!!! Britney needs to do the MNF intro….Paris Hilton? Polka?
