I blame the NCAA for not letting him leave for the draft :D

Torn - who was the USC (?) WR that got fucked because he wanted to leave early like Calrett?

Torn Rose 2006-02-16 04:23 PM

Mike Williams who is now with the Lions was the USC WR who had to sit out a year from the NCAA and NFL.

Clarret has been "dirty" for some time; it was just a matter of time before he got in trouble of some sort. Williams IMHO got fucked, the NFL said yes you can enter the draft, so he hired an agent and then Clarret said he wanted in the draft so the NFL told Williams he could not enter it after all, and as per NCAA rules, once you hire an agent, you can not play in the NCAA so one of the best WR’s couldn’t play for over a year.

Torn Rose 2006-02-16 04:42 PM

Also some good news on the Boilermaker's home front, Jim Cheney the offensive coordinator for the past 9 years has left Purdue and joined the St Louis Rams as Off Line Coach. He has been the top of my shit list since he came to Purdue. So many times we have a so called “high power offense” and he calls weak conservative plays over and over. Short pass right, short pass right, run up the middle, punt, and repeat at the next set of downs, reminds me of the dark days of Jim Colleto’s 6 years where we played to tie, since going for a win is too costly and you may lose.

I can not begin to express the outrage of going to a game and watching the fastest WR in the Big Ten run 5 yards and stop over and over when he can out run the DB’s for the end zone if just once they had thrown it long. I know they can’t do this every play, but at least once a game would be nice and I’m not saying he is the only reason our team has sucked for the last 3 years, but he’s high on the list.

The new Offensive Coordinator at St Louis is Greg Olson, he was with Purdue for 5 years I think and left for the 49ers, but he was married to the Purdue’s woman’s track coach and she stayed at Purdue and after a year he asked Tiller to come back to Purdue and Tiller agreed, then after the next season he left Purdue unexpectedly for the Chicago Bears after telling Tiller he was at Purdue for the long haul, Tiller the calm cool guy he is, banned Olson from the entire Purdue campus and refuses to deal with him again.

When they announced Cheney was leaving, Tiller was in Ft Myers FL playing golf and the Defensive Coordinator Brock Spack said he had not yet spoken to Tiller so he has no idea who will replace Cheney, so it sounded like to me that this was totally unexpected, but I think it’s a great move, until they promoted Legg who was a offensive Coordinator at West Virginia for 2 years and VT for a year, so I am wondering how good he could be if he last only one year at VT and took a job as Off Line coach at Purdue?

Ok, everyone filled in on Purdue football now? :D

Brees a Free Agent? (and other ramblings)

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

“San Diego general manager A. J. Smith said Monday the team has declined to designate Brees, who played at Purdue during 1997-2000, as its franchise or transition player. The deadline for designating a player with either tag is Thursday.”

I think this is a huge mistake, they are on the verge of a great playoff run and they want to risk losing their QB for someone who has hardly played at all. Brees will be one of the top Free Agents if he is “let go” since so many teams need a QB.|badidea|

Warner got a 3 year deal with the Cardinals…. Geeze, how much peyote has Green been smoking?|potleaf|

The new “uproar” in sports, Vince Young didn’t dress up to meet the President… GASP!|huh

Ricky… ricky ricky ricky….. I love to smoke weed myself, but if I knew it would cost me $8 million dollars I would quit right now.|banghead|

Greenguy 2006-02-21 08:53 AM

They have to do something with Rivers, since they are paying him so much money. I agree it sucks - we have a similar situation here in Buffalo with Losman & Holcomb. Losman is getting a lot of money to learn how to be an NFL QB & Holcomb gives us the best chance of winning.

Warner, on the other hand, did have one hell of a year as far as stats (when he wasn't injured) but I think that their WR's have proved that you could be QB & throw for 300 yards on a regular basis :)

Preacher 2006-02-21 02:08 PM

Didn't Brees end the year with a shoulder injury? Probably had a lot to do with this decision.

San Diego fucked up the draft by going with Rivers anyways, imagine if they had traded down and taken Winslow, and had Winslow and Gates running routes on the same plays? Now that would have been far more interesting then see a guy sit on the pine for two years.

Greenguy 2006-02-21 02:38 PM

Winslow & Gates? When was the last time you saw 2 TE's on the field when it wasn't a 1 yard running play?

Preacher 2006-02-21 02:44 PM

That's what would make it interesting. :D No one would have a defense ready to cover two very physical and athletic receiving TE's.

Just saying it would be A LOT more interesting then seeing some kid paid millions to sit on the bench and wait for his chance to play.

Torn Rose 2006-02-21 03:10 PM

Yeah, 2 dominate TE's on the same team isn’t a good idea and Kinslow has not proved he can do a damn thing except talk shit.

SD fucked up when they drafted a QB in the first round AGAIN and they didn’t take OL Gallery from Iowa (now with the Raiders) SD needed a OL more then anything else at the time, the only reason Brees had so many issues his first few years was he was always running for his life, once they stocked up the Off Line he had time to play his game.

Brees is 100% or will be in a very short time, he has already been throwing the deep ball in his recovery. Rivers has a lot to prove, if it was me I would stick with the proven winner and trade the unproven one, they both cost about the same, the injury was not a “bad one” and Brees is also the team leader and locker room presence, so he offers more then what Rivers has at the moment.

But I think Brees will be gone none the less.

Buffalo? Jets? Phins? Raiders? Ravens? And so many others….

bluemoney 2006-02-21 03:57 PM

At least you guys aren’t stuck with Vick.

Ramster 2006-02-21 05:13 PM

Letting Brees go is a bad idea. He had a great year and they are a good team on the "verge". Plus Brees is still young. Idiots if you ask me.

The NFL's competition committee is considering reviving a proposal that would enable the referee to award possession of the ball to the defensive team after a replay review on a play on which the officials erroneously ruled that the offensive ballcarrier had been down by contact before fumbling.

WTF? How is making the game more subjective going to help with correctly officiating said game.
How about this:
1. If your knee is down (not a shoulder or a hand or any other part of the body) the ball carrier is down.
2. If the ball carrier does not have possession of the ball before his knee is down or the whistle has blown the play dead, it’s a fumble.
No more of this “ground can’t cause a fumble” shit.

Fantastic! Maybe the NFL can pull a hockey and miss an entire season while they're at it.

Aren't they smart enough to realize this is what killed baseball? |badidea|

pornrex 2006-02-28 07:53 PM

I really do hope that the NFL is just trying to get us all riled up this off season and that's it. This is the only North American sports league that's not tainted with garbage doping scandals like that found in MLB, or the bullshit salary cap pains of the NHL or the egomaniacal farce that has become the NBA.

If this league gets mucked up, I'll just snap.

Ex-NFL RB Phillips to stand trial on assault charges

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2351191

"Mayerson said Phillips, 30, drove directly at the victims, who suffered cuts and scrapes. Phillips allegedly was angry at the way he had played and took it out on the boys."
_________

This guy is a piece of shit, for those who do not remember his "first" brush with the law, he was with Nebraska on their last National Title team and got pissed off at his girlfriend over a sandwich, so he hit the girl in the face a few times and dragged her down 7 flights of stairs by her hair and then banged her face repeatedly into the mail box.

He of course got nothing more then a slap on the wrist and was allowed to play in the National Title game a few weeks later. The girl who was a star player on the Nebraska Woman’s Basketball team lost her career and left Nebraska soon after. Tom Osborne, then the Nebraska Head Coach and now a Republican Senator from NE thought he had learned his lesson by suspending him 3 games, but NOT the National Title game. Time magazine had a good article on this and asked why he was not in jail or at the very least kicked off the team; Osborne never gave an answer, but as most politicians seem to do on serious questions, answered with out answering it.

I wonder if he had not been allowed to get away with as much as a kid due to his tremendous talent if he would have turned out this way?

Maurice you other there?

Torn Rose 2006-03-06 08:09 AM

and this took this long because...?

Shaun Alexander isn't available -- whenever the NFL decides to start free agency. On a day of deadlines, delays but no labor peace, the league MVP struck his own deal with Seattle for $62 million.

Ramster 2006-03-06 08:44 AM

$62 million is a lot of dough.

That story about Phillips is insane. People like that need to go to jail now before they cause more harm. He has a history of hitting women too not just in college. Idiot!!!

Culpepper to Vikings: Trade me or release me

MINNEAPOLIS (March 8, 2006) -- Daunte Culpepper's shaky relationship with the Minnesota Vikings deteriorated further when the quarterback said he had asked to be released if the team fails to trade him.

http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/MIN/9292669

_______________________________________________________

Not surprised at all and from what I have read Minnesota has a huge amount of cap room regardless if Culpepper stays or goes, I think it would be in the best interest of everyone if he was traded.

Ramster 2006-03-08 04:12 PM

Yup, trade him. People just need a fresh start sometimes.

There were no further details on the agreement, including whether it includes expanded revenue sharing.

The vote was 30-2, with Buffalo and Cincinnati, two low-revenue teams, voting against it..."
