Spam from another adult webmaster?

Hi everyone,

Been really out of the loop for some months due to some health issues, trying to get back on my feet again...

Has anyone else been getting spammed by another adult webmaster? In the last week or two, I've been getting a ton of junk mail from this guy -- he uses all kinds of different domains/names for the return address, but they are all originating from the same sending IP address.....

Same thing in every mail -- just an FPA promoting some paysite for a sponsor that he's signed up with.... at first, I was just trashing them with the rest of my junk-mail, but lately, I'm getting a handful of them every day - it's really getting quite annoying. Finally, this morning, I reported his latest one to the sponsor that he was promoting in that particular message...

Funny that this all started just shortly after we had received the snail-mail "form letter" from Acacia too..... weird coincidence, as I have NEVER received any spam at this particular email address before.... could be just coincidence or did acacia sell the info they obtained on us?

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else has been getting these?

hugs to all,

alethia

I get spams by 100s of people everyday.
Just setup a filter or download the latest version of Eudora. It has a very nice adjustable junk filter.

Email headers are likely to be totally spoofed, including the IP.

alethia 2003-11-19 10:46 AM

Sigh... yeah, I can just filter them out.... and if they were just going to one of my "regular" email addresses, it wouldn't bother me so much... I get all the regular viagra, mortgage, breast enlargement, loan, etc etc spam by the thousands at my "regular" addresses & they go to the trash bin automatically...

Maybe I'm weird, but these are just particularly irritating to me, as this is an email address that I've used ONLY for signing up at sponsors/content providers, etc.... so it's been used exclusively in an "adult webmaster only" setting - so it irks me that another webmaster is sending his spam to THIS address...

Maybe I'm just too easily irritated ... was just curious if this had happened to anyone else...

hugs,

Alethia

Unfortuneately many webmasters spam. I get spam all the time to the email I use only for gallery submissions and the spam is getting worse in there by the day. That email address is not listed anywhere else. |sad|

alethia 2003-11-19 11:16 AM

Thanks for your note, Ramster! I guess I was just lucky to not get any before now.... Time to go back to using a zillion different email aliases, so I can at least track where a spammer gets my address from...

hugs,

Alethia

I wake up to a bigger dick and new mortgage offers daily |jester|

We all get tons of spam...
Because sending spam is very very profitable.

To me...I just think of it as my regular mail spam. Except it is easier to push a button to throw in the trash than to lift the lid of my garbage can.

alethia 2003-11-19 12:06 PM

sigh... yeah, I know spam is common - I filter out a bare minimum of 1500 a day because of some older addresses that I still need to keep active for certain purposes..

I guess I just assumed that when one submits info to a sponsor program, or a link list, or other such "webmaster resource", I thought that the info would be "safe" -- obviously I was wrong and it can/will get passed around to spammers too....

hugs,

Alethia

That spam is probably coming from somebody that knows you

It's like a commercial on TV, but even better because you dont have to sit through it, you just hit delete and get to the show (the real mail) faster than you ever could when watching TV :)

Amen brother. I've been preaching that mantra so much my girlfriend is probably sick of it. The spam I get is weightless and odorless. I guess some folks have to drag theirs to the curb in huge, heavy, stinky bundles. |sad|

Good points. It does get tougher when you get 500-1000 per day! I have my spam filters set up to deal with 90% of it so it's not too bad.

I'm curious though.... do these spammers who mangle the subject lines (v.i.a.g.r.a, or vi@gra, or v1@gra, etc) really think that just because they made it past my spam filter that I'm going to buy their stuff? After all, the spam filter was set up to throw their messages away to begin with!

Alethia

I know that with LLs - it "probably" is safe - but sponsors and content providors is a totally different thing :)
Someone mentioned, but it bears repeating cause I get them all the time from Tommy and others - the headers in the emails are probably being spoofed, so its really hard to tell who is really sending the spam - but with a little look into the "real email header" it can be traced down - I have one that sends me probably 150 a day under a content providors addy - but its really from somebody in Calif using that fake address

I would like to say this

over the years I have had many companys ask to buy my list of submiter emails, I always refused and always will

no but myself has ever seen this list.

and I have never emailed any webmaster exept in reference to their submits

Thats the funny part Tommy - I dont know why they always pick you or me or greenie or someone that most people know isn't going to spam a submitter list - Ive even gotten them from my LL addy addressed to one of my other emails :(
I guess they figure people are going to trust us - so they have a better chance of being opened

I See the same thing when the viral emails are going around
