Traffic From Blog Directories!?

So ... right now I'm working on 12 blogs and although I'm sending traffic to them from various of my domains I still need more ... who doesn't!? |loony|
I've being looking at blog lists and directories and I wonder how good (in terms of traffic) are they!? I mean do they send any traffic at all!? Who does send traffic!? Anyone tried them!?

twn 2007-03-30 05:46 AM

A blog directory that sorts on incoming hits usually sends more traffic compared to blog directories that just sort on date (new ones first). But (there is the but) you need to send traffic to the blog directory to get on the first page or at the top of the list. If you don't send any traffic your blog will likely be positioned under the blogs that do send hits.

http://www.goldadultblogs.com/ is a example, it sorts blogs on hits. It also has a toplist in which your blog can appear when it can send much hits. It also has a search function that will give your blog hits from people that search, this one benefits from a extensive quality blog description.

The whole problem is, if you dont have much traffic in the first place, you wont' get high enough on most directories that rank by hits.

walrus 2007-03-30 04:43 PM

Damn, Twan didnt spam his auto-submitter for his blogs...that must be a first:D

In my opinion, blog directories that sort on traffic in are nothing but large top lists. The big difference being is that there is no way to figure out what it takes TO make it onto the top of the blog directory. No information on if or when the count resets, how much traffic you need to send to stay on top, etc.

Twan's directories will send traffic provided you are able to stay near the top. Otherwise after about three days the traffic falls off drasticly.

so it's a dreaded top-list thingy ... never liked them.
I'll try few and post results in a month time. I believe I need just few hits more to get things going :D
thanks for the info

Not to mention some people mass producing free hosted crap blogs and getting them listed on certain directories. Even more of a problem.

I like wankmaster's plugin for this. It does get me some traffic, not huge, but some and links too.

I have been having the same problem. Personally I prefer to link with other blogs that will increase my popularity with the search engines. I have always had a good 48 hours when submitting to the type Walrus points out but that is because I have a nice *new* flashing symbol. I am not saying Twans sort are a no go but I cannot see the point in joining them until you have some traffic you can send the other way...

I will say part of what a blog directory might help you do too is just get some nice inbound links to it. That certainly doesn't hurt and the extra hits you might get are always nice and targeted. |thumb

I'll try it and post numbers in few months time definitely ... as for inbound links I guess it's same as doing link trades - it depends on witch pages Your link appears. I mean are You buried deep down in directory structure or Your getting index page link. Anyways secondary effect is a possible thing and one I really hope for :D (in terms of getting that inbound count in 3 months time).
just one thing is bugging my head ... should I give’em link on index only or keep'em as friends on all pages ... what seams right for You guys!?

twn 2007-04-04 07:54 AM

On most blog directories you only need to send 1 hit a day to get your blog on the first category page. I think most of you can send 1 hit a day?

Most people can send this hit, but place the link to the directory somewhere not on a very visible spot (or somewhere between many links), meaning that a surfer won't click the link, meaning that your blog won't be on the first category page.

If you don't do it for the traffic, or yet don't have the traffic to send a couple hits, then you can submit because of SEO (your ranking in the search engine results). 15 inbound links to your blog gives a nice boost. It at least will bring the search engine to your blog. :D

Actually that is a A-B link (blog links to directory, directory links to blog), which lately is downgraded by search engines. But the Blog Submitter supports Smart Linking, which is a improved version of A-B-C linking. With smart linking a blog links to 6 directories and 6 other directories link to the blog, which directories is decided at random. It seemed to work very nice if i may believe the stories :)

If you want some alternative incoming links (links to your blog posts instead of links to your frontpage) then you can submit to so called feedlists:

They should all be PR 3 and 4.

Happy submitting! |loony|

that's a nice link there ... thanks!

I've promised I'd post some numbers so here it goes. Now, I won't be discussing here politics of blog directories or have I sent 1hit a day to be included, these are just general numbers from all the blog-directories and feed lists I've submitted my blog to (around 50) without SE hits and hits from my other sites. Big thanks to Walrus (and others) since I've used his list combined with my own and few other findings ;-)
Blog in question is http://www.amateur-porn-corner.com/ and some of blog directories are listed in my side bar (at least those that required link back)...
April 2007 - 3833 unique per month (around 150 per day)
May 2007 - 3939 unique per month
Now, numbers may vary since my skills in gathering stats data are limited but I hope it can give You an input of what You may expect or better yet how this particular blog passed.
Me!? I don't know what to think of it since these my first try at blogs and bloging game so I hope for a feedback from the experienced :D

150 a day from just links is not to be sneezed at. great result.

I have not made any good experience with blog directories, but anyway it's worth posting your blog in them, at least you can boost your search engine ranking a little bit

tina99 2007-06-08 06:47 AM

Vivaldi submit to Twans BlogDirectories and feedlists |bananna|
install a counter and you will see that his Directories will bring you a lot of hq traffic |club|

Vivaldi 2007-06-08 06:53 AM

thanks will do that as well

BadWolf 2007-07-06 02:31 AM

The truth is you need to develop traffic sources outside of top lists and blog directories before you expect to get traffic from those sources.

ronnie 2007-07-19 03:42 PM

Just as important, if not more important, having a blog that people want to keep reading and come back. Building up bookmarks. Something interesting, or very interesting. Every one probably already knows this, just in case.

Course easier said then done. I know I don't have the time to always do it. For some one that does this part time and is not relying to heavy on the income, could really focus and make something great.

I've seen people say, their life is not exciting, well don't write about your life! Make something up, Create a interesting character, a slutty character, what ever. What would keep you reading a blog? The entire porn biz online and off is pretty much fantasy anyways, it's made up in the first place. We know hot girls walking down the street don't get in to a strange van with a couple of guys and screws them. Its all fantasy. You can make up WHAT EVER YOU WANT..:)

I wish I could focus on one blog. Wish I had the time. I think it could be fun.

I don't mean to go off topic, but it is part of the topic. If you blog is uninteresting or like 100's of others and/or you don't get Se traffic, you will ALWAYS be fighting for traffic.

My experience with blog-lists has been so-so... both of my blogs get about 10-20 uniques a day... and I've signed up to about 20 blog lists each. In the beginning I was getting 150-300 uniques a day, but this tends to only last a couple days, since your blog tends to fall to the bottom of the list pretty fast--where nobody clicks.

Incidentally, it's one of the reasons why I created my own bloglist. I wanted to create the kind of blog list I would want to submit to... which is the kind that's going to help me get more hits over the long run! As it stands, you don't really get much out of joining most blog-lists over the long run, which means they get a link from your site for practically nothing. It's works too much in their favor, if you ask me.

That is what I was hinting at in my earlier post in this thread. Creating one blog or ten or a hundred is only part of the process of creating a traffic network. You can build directories, link dumps, Hubpages, Squidoo pages, free hosted blogs........and many others. You're only limited by time and imagination.

ronnie 2007-07-23 07:34 AM

People don't seem to take hints and clues, ect, they just go on like nothing. They sure don't seem to read much. Then they wonder why they don't get traffic or make money..:)

I think so many come into this business thinking it's easy money. It isn't, but it's not that hard, either. It just takes a lot of time and patience.

Well, scratch out Hubpages, which is getting rid of adult pages and Squidoo, which is no longer a favorite of Google.
