Google Updating backlinks etc.

Update is in progress - SERP changes started a few days ago - now the backlinks are changing - big differences I see are that the site-scrapers are moving out of the backlinks, but the good high PR sites are still not showing in the backlinks. Found a note by that Google engineeer over at WMW that says they changed the way they are going to display backlinks and basically comes out and says it was some members idea over there - to throw off people checking other peoples backlinks to see how they are gaining link pop. - Pretty stupid stuff.
Looks like a lot of the LLs that have been around for a while have lost some of their 2 and 3 word search phrase positions - although Im hearing reports from some that say traffic is up, most I have checked with say that traffic is way down from the SEs.

Of course this is about the time Google played this game last year with a rollback of their DB and it came back after a few weeks if I remember correctly?

otter 2004-08-10 06:56 AM

I am seeing new backlinks also, But it looks like google finally put a stop to sites selling pr. I cant find the pr for any site right now on my toolbar

grzepa 2004-08-10 08:41 AM

I noticed that SERP changes also - I lost all my good keywords, and traffic from SE's went like 80% down :(

I hope it will change.

Pusher 2004-08-10 04:05 PM

I've noticed over the past 3-4 days that my Google SERP have fallen dramatically, and my traffic from Google is down about 50%|sad|

Today, something very WEIRD is happening...

One of my search phrases is teen sex - I've been ranked #5 for a while now. Today though, when I repeatedly click on search, sometimes my site (http://www.adult-sex-sites.net/teens.html) comes up as #5, and other times as #1. This is in real time...clicking every 5 seconds or so.

I've heard about the Google bounce, but this is ridiculous!|jackinthe

Pusher 2004-08-10 04:18 PM

Doh! I meant the Google Dance |bananna|

triks 2004-08-11 04:00 PM

As Linkster said

"Looks like a lot of the LLs that have been around for a while have lost some of their 2 and 3 word search phrase positions "

I would check if that is the case for you... I bet it is :(

Linkster 2004-08-24 05:55 AM

Just a quick check shows a small change going on in www2 and www3 for Google today - seems some sites are getting back their search phrases they lost earlier in the month - but not all of them :(

Surfn 2004-08-24 06:02 AM

They gave me back my PR4 that was at PR0 for over a month on my new LL index page. :D

The inside pages never dropped however. lol

Alphawolf 2004-08-24 10:57 AM

Google bastards still have my domain banned. |pissed|

garv 2004-08-24 11:02 PM

I've noticed massive amounts of google spam get into the top listings this update that's happening at the moment.

lots of new sites that are auto generated keyword pages

garv

AcidMaX 2004-08-25 10:05 AM

I just seemed to have lost some major keywords this time. I was like 3 for teen xxx and now I am on the 3rd friggin page.

Hmm..
Andy

Kezza 2004-08-25 10:17 AM

Google is a strange beast Andy... Your listing may come back... but in the mean time... try for some more phrases

garv 2004-08-25 08:44 PM

andy same thing, I was getting some great traffic then bam my keywords were all pushed back to page 3 or 4 every page that moved in is a redirecting spam page. spammers did great this latest update.

guess I'll just have to keep plugging away and hope the next update is better for real pages.

garv

Alphawolf 2004-08-25 08:51 PM

Just be happy you get that traffic from Google. Someone could hit the wrong button one day and ban you.

That's a bit of suckitude.

Yeah my traffic is still good with Yahoo just google dropped quite a bit, it was fine for quite a few days , then its like they started updating again and I slipped. I started to start targetting some extra keywords too, so hopefully overtime it will payout even better. My traffic is already 2-3x what it was a month or so ago, so im still happy :)

oh I know, i've had some pages blacklisted before, and when asking google why they couldn't give a reason next update back in. Very strange things. As far as I know i've never done anything wrong or bad to the SEs so when I get listed so low and spammers get so high just pisses me off. but heyho, till next update I'll wait and if it aint all good by Christmas I'll say goodbye to my 10 year porn carrer, it's done me well, and start something else.

garv

Alphawolf 2004-08-26 02:05 AM

garv,

What % of traffic was coming from SE's?

garv 2004-08-26 08:35 AM

about 60-70% it's dropped to about 20% of my traffic at the moment, but I know it will change. it always does. Was just pissed off when I found all the spammers. I'll be back!

I had a site that 95% of all traffic was google or yahoo till that

http://www - igotguns.com/ cock, ruined that got my site blacklisted now it's slowly rising after I wrote google and explained. but it was a long hard few months for that site. so i hope that other spammers get caught and soon all us honest webmasters will be happy again!

regards
garv

Alphawolf 2004-08-26 10:16 AM

That hurts. Maybe a few more careful link trades would help and bring some traffic?

Surfn 2004-08-26 10:36 AM

Various Google's just started kicking another 13k per day to my sites. |bananna|

That helps a bit since I had to take down one of my best SE sites |pissed|

dunno what's going on with google - have a look at the results for these searches:

porn:
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...e=UTF-8&q=porn

seems as if kit's penisbot is the only adult site beeing listed for that search term - the other listed sites are clearly non-adult sites...

the same for the search term: "oral sex":
http://www.google.com/search?num=100...f=1&q=oral+sex

actually I don't post links to other boards, but here's where I heard of it:

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...adid=346661&s=

Linkster 2004-08-26 01:40 PM

Rocco - its the same thing they did to the term "sex" earlier this year - they're masking the english results for "political correctness"
if you take the link you have and substitute hl=es for the hl-en you have in your links you will see the overseas results for the same term in a different language and you can see the differences

Here we go again......... |banghead|

#1 - Everyone take a VALIUM and relax!

#2 - Don't even think that the update is over - simply because it isn't.

#3 - NEVER take Google advice from GFY.

#4 - [Opinion]This update is following the same pattern as every other update I have seen since I started watching Google closely.

Most of your terms that are "lost" at the moment, will be back, often in a slightly lower position that you were previously, and then over the next weeks they should/may return to their original position.[/Opinion]

#5 - Google is already returning many results to their usual positions - http://www2.google.com/search?source...e=UTF-8&q=porn (You may see older results dependent on your position in the world, and the cache of your ISP etc/etc/etc)

#6 - Making judgements on results DURING an update is a complete waste of time.

#7 - [Opinion] There should be a PR update following the Results update. This may or may not be displayed in the "Google Toolbar"[/Opinion]

#8 - [Opinion] Once the PR update has occurred, there will be a further adjustment of the results and removal of spam[/Opinion]

#9 - As soon as the full update is over, Google will go back to it's usual daily adjustments of the results.

#10 - The appearance of 'non-adult' porn pages in the porn results happens EVERYTIME there is a full update, and they disappear or move down in the results as the update finishes.

#11 - Get back to work!

Right on, DD...usually happens just like that everytime.

Jay, this morning I hear that alot of folks couldn't get to the paysites partnership areas to check stats plus ICQ was down. I've even heard tell that some sort of virus shut down parts of the 'net...so you may not have been hammered as much as you think.

It is - with the exception that a lot of big established sites have been hit hard - unusually so!

Yes.. some spam will be removed, some spam will be added.

Yes.

This is true. And I predict that there will be more and more 'non adult' sites appearing in the serps for high ranked keywords - and staying there, especially single and 2 words. Look out for more news sites, informational sites, anti porn and porn addiction sites - humour sites, religious sites.. et al.. in short, any site that's whole purpose is to cull their traffic and then send them to a sponsor (and I think that applies to us all here - right ;-) will be marginalised for these keywords in the future.. Why? - Simple - there has been one big change to Google aside from the filters and algos that are being applied right now - and that is Google now has share holders. Share holders like to see the value of their stock rise every quarter - Google has to increase it's revenue to keep these shareholders happy - giving away free traffic to us makes their share holders NOTHING! - The ads on the right do! See where I'm coming from on this? Take a look at this below in the screen cap - The name of my site is being used (mondoerotica) to pull ads - this started today! Will they be using the names of your sites to pull ads in the future - if they can get away with it, you better believe it boy and girls!

Here is the screen cap!

Here are some keywords to watch out for over the months - pay close attention to the results above the fold:

http://www3.google.com/search?num=10...ex+show+online

http://www3.google.com/search?num=10...afe=off&q=porn

http://www3.google.com/search?num=10...=Internet+porn

Not sure if that is the full reason behind changes in last 2 updates as yet... but what you say is pretty logical and that stuff should really be expected from any public company as they focus on maximising shareholder profit.

http://www.mondoerotica.net/mondo-google.html <-- I bet a lot of people have addressed this issue with google over time.. I'm not really sure of right way to go... but if you don't like it, I think you need to tell Google that or you will lose your right to complain later by ignoring it now.

I had heard Girls Gine Wild people had tried to stop google showing ads for that result phrase.. (might be a rumour though)
http://www.google.com/search?safe=off&q=girls+gone+wild

there is only 1 ad there I see now... but it appears they didn't manage to convince Google not to sell ads.

Email to google in the works mate - There is a company in Germany taking legal action right now, and others in the states.

In the example on the screen shot there is one ad, but I have seen another result (which are only appearing on the U.S version of Google by the way) with three.

I was trying to be optimistic, but I am gonna say that this update is done. We will be stuck with these serps for a while.

doublep 2004-08-30 06:47 AM

Done and dusted for now! Anyone care to pick the bones out of this one? - It has been an update like no other in recent times - for adult, and non adult!

urb 2004-08-30 08:56 AM

This site is currently number 1 for porn on Google
http://drew.corrupt.net/bp/

What's going on at Rancho Googlo????

doublep 2004-08-30 10:25 AM

There are some interesting results in the top 100 there Urb - around 70% of those results are not 'porn' sites - but are relevent for the keyword - a smattering of links sites scraped in I see - JK, smutgremilins, and Tommy are there with one or 2 others.

garv 2004-08-31 12:44 PM

I'm noticing some PR updates and they seem as harsh as the latest search updates. however some of my sites that went white recently have recovered their full previous PR.

regards
garv

Linkster 2004-08-31 04:31 PM

PR and backlinks updating from where I sit - PR only updated in the directory so far as I can see - and directory results definitely shuffled around - and a large drop in the backlinks shown by Google on the link: command - which really doesnt mean anything anymore

doublep 2004-09-01 09:00 AM

Seeing a change in the serps again here!
