Did Tommy just start charging

So I went to submit to Tommy's Bookmarks and was asked to pay $50 for a partner account (I paid of course) I'm just surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned on the board

Mateusz 2004-10-21 05:42 PM

Uhm... where did you find that ?
I don't see anything like that at http://www.tommys-bookmarks.com/submit/

T Pat 2004-10-21 05:44 PM

I got it after I hit the submit button

Ramster 2004-10-21 05:46 PM

Yes he has started charging, $50 a year I believe (or one time fee).

T Pat 2004-10-21 06:00 PM

I've only been listed on Tommy's Bookmarks once. But judging by the amont of traffic the one listing is getting I would have paid more |jester|

I wonder if all the big boy's (and girls) are going to go to this route

swedguy 2004-10-21 06:03 PM

I guess that means I have to start submit more often than 1 site every third month :D

the New Shemp 2004-10-21 06:06 PM

$50.00 is a steal of a deal

kristian 2004-10-21 06:13 PM

$50.00 is a great price. Most places want several times that for only a month. And Tommy's traffic converts better than those sites.

Greenguy 2004-10-21 06:28 PM

I paid my $50 :D

I'm also watching this closely to see how it goes.....

MrMaryLou 2004-10-21 06:30 PM

Cheap at twice the price :) Tommy's gots some kick ass traffic :)

Alphawolf 2004-10-21 06:47 PM

With the amount of traffic I got from tommy $50 is nothing.

It would be cool if he added more specific categories...is the only request I have.

I bet this will cut down on the cheaters by 90%+.

Less crap for them to sort through and even quicker review times perhaps.

It's all good.

grzepa 2004-10-21 08:07 PM

For that amount of traffic that Tommy's providing $50/year is an ok price.

Tommy 2004-10-21 09:24 PM

Thank you everyone, I have to admit I was a little nervous about the change

I appriciate the kind words :-)

Keyser Soze 2004-10-21 09:33 PM

Its a great deal just got my account.
Some places I don´t have a problem paying for submits if its the right site and right price ;)

Kezza 2004-10-21 09:38 PM

Tommy, I think I must have submitted a site milli-seconds before you started the fee... should I resubmit and pay the $50?

submitted under webmaster at link-fabulous.com

thanks
Kez

If you are willing to share I'd be curious how fewer submissions you get over the next week or so.

grzepa 2004-10-22 05:08 AM

@Tommy, I just submitted a gallery to you and all went the old way - ie no asking for paying anything - is it because I was a partner before or something's wrong on my side ?

Gee... didnt think the day would come that I could not give away money!!

Tommy... |help|

Pendo 2004-10-22 07:51 AM

I didn't want to be the 1st that came out & said I didn't have to pay :D

Useless 2004-10-22 09:25 AM

Sounds like the end is nigh for free traffic. (yes, I said nigh) As much as I hate to pay for anything, traffic, sex, whatever, it will probably be ultimately better for the industry, assuming the fees remain below the 'outrageous' level. Any token amount will drastically cut down on the cheaters and hobby-hour slip-slop. Tommy is charging just less than 14 cents a day. You can't even feed a third world kid a bowl of rice on that amount. :D

CelticTiger 2004-10-22 09:54 AM

I'm happy to pay to play. Tommy's traffic rocks.....tho it's a sad state of affairs when he's forced to do this. I'd like to know tho....does one pay the $50 with the application or do you have to apply, be approved and then pay?

Just make a regular submission after you hit the submit button it will walk you through the payment process

Yeah people shouldn´t be to gready $50-100 a year or so seems reasonable to me I think it benefit the honest webmasters making it easier to get listed.
The problem is when people put the fee way to high.

STEVEN 2004-10-22 10:13 AM

$50.00 to get listed at Tommy's? That's it? I wonder what's next, MicroSoft selling shares at a penny?

That has to be the best bang for the buck on paid listings out there right now.

Tev 2004-10-22 11:06 AM

You know what I think is cool, and Tommy probably expected a lot of people freaking out about having to pay, is that no one is. With all the people I see constantly whining about getting pretty much everything for free and wanting 100% of all revenue generated at sponsor programs, it is a good thing to see.

Kind of renews my faith in people a little that they are not adverse to paying for quality.|thumb

boobster 2004-10-22 11:40 AM

I'm in for that! .. I mean, that way all the sucky gallery builders, content wasters(!?) will give up what they do, and only hardworking webmasters will stay... sounds great to me!

p.s. I just wish ePassporte could finally unblock my account!!! anyone from ePassporte in here!?

Tommy 2004-10-22 11:45 AM

you know whats funny

around 2 maybe 3 maybe 4 years ago I came up with this idea

and I threw it out on a board... like sort of a what do you think about this thread
the responce I got was.......lets say, overwhelming negitive

so I was very nervous about doing this, Also I dont like to fuck with the general construction of Tommys Bookmarks

I want everyone to know that I will put all my resources into making this work and if anyone has any problems they should feel more then free to email me or post on this board

yep, I'd say there are much more people in biz nowdays, and you just need to filter the quality somehow if you want to run a quality website... this is the easeiest way...

stuveltje 2004-10-22 01:52 PM

for real i dont mind to pay 50 bucks a year hell its nothing compair what you earn he send the traffic so thats no point to arque about, btw i did also do paid submitting at blue wave when it was in the hands of the old owner they didnt send much traffic but they did send good traffic, i never have a problem to pay for submission............so Greenguy when you gonna charge, i would pay|couch| because alot of webmasters wanna kill stu now|violin|

They are idiots. I had my account illegally used so I called and had the account frozen. Then I had FlashCash create a new account for me. Then epassporte froze that one too. Yes froze the New account and I quote "in case it got comprised too". LMAO at that, it's a new friggin' account number I said.

Long story short after about 3 weeks of waiting for the other charges to all be reversed, which they were, they finally transferred my funds to the new account and unfroze it.

Fast epassporte is not!

i know you mention it that time gg had a board at adultnetsurprise, i never thought it was a bad idea , hell whats 50 bucks a year .......................

Lunatic 2004-10-22 02:45 PM

I'll pay for an account next month when I've got some more money in my pocket. :) I was wondering if anybody has any thoughts about this idea: charging a small fee for individual submissions. It would add up to quite a bit more over the course of a year, but it could be a good way to get a submission linked right away, especially if someone doesn't have a full fee right now or make alot of free sites.

Tommy 2004-10-22 02:49 PM

ce has that micro pay thing
a person could charge a couple dollars a submit

stuveltje 2004-10-22 02:57 PM

i still think to keep in mind , even you pay 50 bucks a year it wont mean you get listed, you still have to be with the rules and dont make shit sites or cheat, i think that needs to make clear when you pay for submission, i could charge money, but it wont mean you can submit what ever you want.rules are rules|violin| correct me if i am wrong

I agree. No cheating and quality sites. But as long as you keep with the rules I would think your sites would probably get listed. And pretty quickly too since there would be fewer submitters I would imagine. Tommy, excuse my ignorance, but what's "ce"?

RockDaddy 2004-10-22 04:47 PM

$50 is too cheap. Make it $1000/yr and let's eliminate some competition!
