Looks like a Xmas Dance at Google

Id say that some major changes are underway - it looks like a traditional dance from way back - seeing backlinks changing, PR in the Directory is changing and SERPs are rolling back to old August results - Although I do see three different sets of results pushing their way around the net - hopefully this will settle down in the next few days :)

XPorn 2004-12-17 10:02 AM

A ton of spam on cat keywords I can tell you that.

Hopefully it starts to right itself a bit soon....(of course it always does....but days feel like years!)

Stuff is on the move... backwards in some cases... be interesting to see where it all lands.

Unfortunately - so far Ive been totally removed from most of my #1 spots - but I think its way far from over - I did also notice that a keyword that normally gets 400 mill SERP results is only showing 78 mill right now so thats a good sign.

I also found quite a few database errors in Googles database - urls that have been mixed up with other domains that I dont even own - at first I thought they were site scrapers and almost posted about it here - but then I realized I not only know the guy but have talked with him and he doesnt even have those directories on his domain :) and yes I do trust him completely.

Looking horrible here so far |angry|

Pusher 2004-12-18 01:39 AM

I've completely dropped off the face of Google|sad|

plateman 2004-12-18 02:40 AM

I gained some ground in google, and yahoo is having a shake up also and gaining back some of what I lost and slurpy has been fixed so they say.. I watch yahoo very close.. and lately yahoo and google and msn have been sending more traffic to me..

IMHO google will shuffle back sites that been in the front of the serps for so long in 2005 because its the same old sites with high link pop. that rule there terms and google will loose traffic to other SE's and I think they know it..

anteyes 2004-12-18 04:40 AM

I'm loving Yahoo right now. I got a HUGE boost in SERPs in some MAJOR keywords. Please God let it stay this way for at least a little while. I'm kinda expecting to lose those SERP's any time now.

Damn!!

I was checking my server stats and saw a huge decrease in hits the last couple of days. I check google...where the hell am I? Page 1 rankings down to nowhere land.

One term I always do good for, free mpegs, has rape and beast sites on page 1 and 2? WTF is that? Google will surely fix that I hope!!

XPorn 2004-12-19 12:13 PM

yea Ramster...

I see a lot of freehosts....sub domains...spammy crap....sorta like last time they did a large update....for 3 weeks I was killed, but then was quite happy.......

So heres to hoping that any beers we drnk in Vegas don't have our tears in them!!

Boogie 2004-12-19 02:53 PM

I'd love to show you an accurate representation of what google has done to me with this update.

However I'd need a real doll with a life like anus, 3 pounds of C4 explosives, and a shotgun.

Hopefully google wil figure out wtf its doing and either change it or fix it or something!

cause man, my serps got filled with spam, and shitsites no one has ever heard of.

This algorythm is insane apparantly.

RawAlex 2004-12-20 04:16 AM

Once again, Google does a VERY ill advised adjustment to their algo, and the end up with HUGE piles of shitty sites taking up every term you can think of.

Once again, they have managed to push a PSB.ORG page up to the top 10 of the term "porn".

The second item for the term "findpics" doesn't have a single reference or link from anything findpics, not a single mention in the cache, nothing.

I have had one site go from about 500-1000 google hits a day for a variety of mixed terms to 3.

I go back and look at those terms, and 90% of the pages don't even have a cached page (they are cloaking and asking google not to show their shit). Click the link, get redirected.

Scumware sites, toolbar sites...

Congrats Google, you just made MSN look good. 40 billion for this?

Sheesh!

Alex

AcidMaX 2004-12-20 02:26 PM

Is this update over? Or is it still bouncing around? It seems I picked up some more traffic but nothing really big, but definitely more hits from google.

Bill 2004-12-20 05:00 PM

Updates often happen like this. A huge crash in traffic (or the opposite, when one is lucky), followed by a gradual recovery as they bring in more filters and the update continues.

It often takes up to three weeks for everything to settle down after the first big shock.

Then, week after week for another month or so, small changes.

Then finally the update is fully over and all you have left is freshbot and the standard daily changes.

(except when it happens differently... my philosophy is, never trust google.)

Linkster 2004-12-20 05:07 PM

I usually follow the results for the keyword "sex"
Its a pretty good indicator of where they are in the update :)
The term until August had 200 mill results - during the August update they dropped it to 60 mill where it stayed for about 2 weeks - then recovered when they added the "serving 8 billion pages" statement on their home page and then the "sex" results went to around 398 million
This week they were up to 400 million until Thursday when they dropped to 78 mill.
Im still seeing most data centers right around the 76-78 mill results so Id have to say theyve got a bit to go :)

I did see the Google Directory has been updated with changes in positions as of Friday, and a backlinks update that looks like its about done. I havent watched PR in some time but Im told that it hasnt wavered too much yet - so Id be looking for that soon

Bill - thats about the normal "dance" when they are trying some new algo out which is what I think they are doing this time :) Looked almost exactly like the one in August so Im pretty sure that things will take the 2-3 weeks to settle out with "freshbot" runs :)

grzepa 2004-12-21 06:56 AM

Indeed, there is a dance going on... and as always all my top #1 serps went to hell :) But the good thing is that they were allways back to #1 after 2-3 weeks. Who knows maybe santa google will bring them back with and additional PR point to my domain ?

Rocco 2004-12-21 06:49 PM

add:

&filter=0

to the search result url and .... WHOAM!!

Rocco 2004-12-21 06:57 PM

and read what googleguy said in past:

http://www.markcarey.com/googleguy-s...lter-zero.html

grzepa 2004-12-21 07:04 PM

Thanks Rocco, nice one, the results with the filter=0 are just like before the dance.

Its interesting because Ive been hit with the same thing this time - and I also have a secondary URL showing up in Google in this format www.domain%20.com how they came up with that space in the url is beyond me

Rocco 2004-12-21 09:20 PM

if i search for some text of my site i get hundreds of copies of my sites eg:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...ther+adults%22

(i hope the link works...)

Rocco 2004-12-21 09:27 PM

wow ... i cannot even rank in the top 100 for:

NichePornSite.com porn

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...nSite.com+porn

because google thinks my site is the duplicate site, with the dup filter off, it looks normal:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...+porn&filter=0

Rocco 2004-12-21 10:41 PM

sorry for filling up this thread, but check what is happening, this is a real asshole example:

www.adult-porn-xxx-movies.info has stolen my entire site and i bet other sites are stolen also:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...one+wild%21%22

http://www.google.com/search?q=allin...irls+gone+wild!%22&num=100&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&filter=0

while my site is the original, he shows my content as a cloaked version, and does not allow google cache. my site is regarded as a duplicate. this problem was addressed many times on ww in spring/summer 04 but i find almost all of my sites stolen (sometimes several times).

Bill 2004-12-22 12:30 AM

Rocco, is he/they actually duplicating your pages physically, or using the meta refresh bug?

I'm not sure if surfing the link with the browser set at high security (which I think cancels meta refresh) is sufficient to let you see wether he has actually duplicated your content.

A more advanced test might be needed.

These page copiers have gone nuts.

Linkster, regarding the length of an apdate; I've never been sure what those weekly pulses in traffic, which I think happen for about a month after the two-three week long period of an update like this one, actually are... I think of them as part of the update, because I see increases in traffic, when the typical result of the standard "freshbot and stuff" is small decreases in traffic as new pages push my listings down.

Do you see the same thing, or is that just an artifact of my particular system of pages? What do you think that is?

Rocco 2004-12-22 12:49 AM

Bill,

I think I am getting hit by serveral things, some ones are using the 302 / meta refesh trick, others seem to physically copy/cloak my pages and build up an exact clone on another domain, some others are building monster sites which look like /some.php?url=www.domain.com/dir/file.htm, then there are those fake serp directories ... so I am not sure which exact pages/sites trigger the filter. but it takes hell of a time to report all cases.

in my previos post the last link is not working, but it is the same as if you use the second last link and then click "repeat the search with the omitted results included"

Rocco 2004-12-22 02:39 AM

follow the discussions at ww:

http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/27104-41-10.htm

additional info (sept-04):
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/25638-1-10.htm

Rocco 2004-12-22 04:33 AM

Take eg JAYS-XXX-LINKS.COM:

http://www.google.com/search?q=allin...n&lr=&c2coff=1

http://reality-xxx-adult-porn.info/

has almost an identical site to jay's as a cloaked version he just changed jay's into Juan's but if you surf the site as googlebot you will be astonished.

i dont know why some sites get knocked down, it hit me the first time a few days ago. maybe because jay's site is older it can withstand that dup. filter, but maybe it is luck and jay will be gone from google next time.

btw. this is the same guy who copied my site so dont bother and show jay this post, i already complained and reported the entire network of that guy (which took me all night) but if jay starts compaining it will help, too.

... and check your site.

neticule 2004-12-22 08:16 AM

wow

wow thats awful, my sites have been copied a few times but it hasnt harmed my serps like it seems they are doing to you. best of luck with that

XPorn 2004-12-22 12:12 PM

"Mom, im done... Come wipe!!" nice sig ?!!??

RawAlex 2004-12-22 03:26 PM

If you need a laugh, do a search for FINDPICS on google:

my main site is (as of this minute) on page 3. There is NO reason that a term like that should return anything but the main site in question.

Look at the 4th and 5th place sites... scammer adsense pushing sites that have jammed a findpics listing into their bullshit return lists.

Go down a little further, you will find a scammer that has dupe - redirected my site.

Google has seriously fucked it up this time, going to take them MONTHS to get this back in shape... just when microsoft search is about to hit it big.

Google... the Excite of 2004?

Hello together, I'm pretty new to this board so maybe I should introduce myself first

...ok, ok hold on, I know this is not the place for the "hello thing", I have already posted here:

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...179#post111179

so everybody can see what I do and who I am.

And now the problems described on this thread: This is a serious problem that google has. Google is pretty limitated to their capacity of indexing sites. So if let's tell all sites are beeing copied that are currently indexed/cached by Google that would mean that there are twice as much sites/pages that google "should" index/chache as they are able to.

So what they have to do is to decide which sites they would like to index and which ones not. So this might be the reason why they are using a "duplicate content filter"

HI All |rasta|
I was intrested after Rocco's Post
i found one guy tooke my disclaimer and copied it to hundreds of domains and sub domain
well there one thing he forgat to change the disclaimer and left this text "OnlyBestSex.com is not responsibly for any content on website's and galleries we link to "

here is a view to all his domains
http://www.google.com/search?q=OnlyB...&sa=N&filter=0

now my question is ,is it good that i have tons of sites with it or not ?

I would say it's not good.

The question is what can be done about it...

Bill 2004-12-22 06:28 PM

I know I'm being silly, but I blame this all on the idiots at GFY constantly spouting "There's no money in SEO...".

Why can't people just learn to keep thir mouths shut?

So now to the problem described in this thread:

My device:

Go and look after the whois of the domains beeing used for spamming your sites. Looking fake? Go on and report them to Icann. Here an interesting article comcerning this problem: http://news.spamcop.net/pipermail/s...ust/055780.html

Try to find out who is the registrar: use http://www.whois.sc/ then click on the ICANN registrar. Now you get full info of the registrar and you can report that domain as a spammer domain so they can shut it down.

Try to find out where the domains beeing used to spamm your sites are beeing hosted: use http://www.whois.sc/ type in domain name, clich on ip adress and you will get the full info about the host. Now send them a complain.

Try to find out what sponsors he/her/they use and what's their affiliate code. Then send them a spam report.

sorry, 10 minutes over °
