That is sadly the way of the world. People love disaster and bad things (provided that they happen to other people). Look at "reality TV" how often do you see a program where they don't make the contestants suffer in some way or another ?
In news publishing a story about a school building collapsing and killing hundreds of kids will get headline news, but if instead the school had got record levels of exam passes, the story would have been a small article buried inside the paper (in the unlikely event that anyone published it in the first place). This is because papers are primarily there to sell, and they know people buy disaster not good news. Want more proof ? Before Christmas when was the last time you saw a headline about something good happening in Asia ? But look at the way the press gleefully covered the tsunami, gloating over the death toll, missing, injured, etc. To the media the tsunami was a late Christmas present, good copy, easy copy, and a great seller. Face it, people are just "bastards" and the media caters for people. As someone once said "The more people I meet, the more I like dogs." |
I just believe that religion is evil and a left over superstition from the days when humans had less of an understanding of the world that we live in.
I really do believe that most of the hatred and guilt in the world is a result of religion and that religion is a plague on humanity that is spread by priests, rabbis, or whatever they call themselves in their superstitious beliefs. |
It is not religion is evil, it is the people who misuse it who are evil. People who go on crusades or crash aeroplanes into buildings are an extreme example, but there are plenty of smaller ones.
However to say "religion is evil" is as bad as to say "porn is evil". Also it is sort of a recursive argument, because believing religion is evil is a religious belief in itself. |
I say religion is evil because people make life decisions based on it and IMO religion is nothing but uneducated understanding of our world around us. It is like not having a black cat as a pet because you believe that keeping a black cat will cause you to have misfortune in life. My neighbor across the street painted her front door red because she believes this will lead to financial success and actually tried to stop me from painting mine antique white claiming that this would cause great harm to my well being.

I've always used this important rule when it comes to forum posting...don't discuss Religion or Politics.
With that said :D People ruin everything...it doesn't matter what institution people look towards, they'll eventually ruin it. Example: Religion - Ruined throughout history by a small percentage of people who abuse its power. Politics - Umm, yeah, lol, I really don't even have to say anything here. Porn - The majority of good webmasters get this reputation from the few that abuse the situation. Would you like someone saying, "All Adult Webmasters are child pornographers" It happens, unfairly, but it happens. If there was no religion, people would move to another institution and corrupt it and bastardize it and then the institution itself will / would be criticized instead of the fact that the human race sucks and they'll bring everything down. So moral of the story...People suck, they can ruin anything given enough time, it's just their nature. |

Religion is simply a way for governments to control their peoples. It has always been that way.
Look at any study and you'll see that the higher the level of education, the less likely one is to believe in a god. Same goes for IQ, which is not determined by education level. |
RE - "I've always used this important rule when it comes to forum posting...don't discuss Religion or Politics." I have to disagree, I wish more people should post on these subjects. It makes for heated threads that can be extremely interesting to read. But don't stop at this, hit any topic that people have strong views about. For example the best threads I have ever started are ones where I "suggest" that America might NOT be the greatest country in the world. And when another webmaster board offered a prize for the most read and most posted to threads, both of these were won by a thread that someone started with the opinion that women should NOT run adult sites.
However, don't expect to make many friends this way. I play the devil's advocate on the boards a lot less than I used to a few years ago, but I still think that when I die, instead of getting me a tombstone, they are going to have to put a dance floor over my grave. |
And to get the ball rolling:
re - "I say religion is evil because people make life decisions based on it" Anything that people make life decisions on is evil ? What you mean like "financial advisor's" "careers services", "teachers", "daytime talk shows", etc. (OK, I'll give you the last one.) re - "IMO religion is nothing but uneducated understanding of our world around us. It is like not having a black cat as a pet because you believe that keeping a black cat will cause you to have misfortune in life" Superstition IS a religion to many people. And to many others religion is a superstition. Also a lot of superstition comes from religion (eg. the origin of it being unlucky to walk under a ladder is that a ladder resting against the wall forms a symbol of the "holy trinity" and breaking it (by walking under it) will offend God). re-"Religion is simply a way for governments to control their peoples" Actually it is most often the other way round. Look at Britain from the middle ages up to about 60 years ago, or more topically look at the way George W. is cow toeing to the "bible belters". |
*steps carefully away from this topic*

Coward. :D
