Favorite "CAN'T MISS" shows?

I have a few that I love to watch, but the 2 shows i simply cannot miss are;
Deadwood on HBO
Battlestar Gallactica on SciFi
Don't know what it says about me that those shows are at this point, my all time favs......maybe my reality is out of whack with the space time thingi.......but these are two shows I won't miss

what are your favorite shows?

Verbal 2005-03-03 01:15 PM

Dunno... TV shows are just kinda blah right now and it's hard to commit to one show every week. I prefer to wait and rent the good ones by season on DVD.. just saw Curb Your Enthusiasm and loved it. |thumb

Jim 2005-03-03 01:17 PM

I like a few reality shows...
Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother
But mostly I watch crime dramas like, All the CSIs, All the Law and Orders.
Oh yeah, House, West Wing and NYPD Blue.

Jim 2005-03-03 01:17 PM

Oh yeah, almost anything on HBO :)

there is one show that my wife likes a lot that I would love to buy all the seasons of. unfortunately I can't seem to find all of them and the ones i do find I'd have to mortgage something valueable to afford!! LOL
thats farscape

Greenguy 2005-03-03 02:09 PM

Yeah - anything on HBO on Sunday is watched here - Carnivale, Deadwood, 6 Feet Under, Soprano's, Curb Your Enthusiam, Entourage - everything (except things with that Soderbergh's name on it)

We also watch Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, ER, The Apprentice & The West Wing.

I watch Myth Busters & I'm really starting to get hooked on Modern Marvels.

I'm getting pshcyed up for The Sheild as well :)

Torn Rose 2005-03-03 02:13 PM

Lost, West Wing (but that's starting to lose me) NYPD Blue which is over, Enterprise, which is ending and NCAA Football.

Of those (not counting football) Lost is my #1

I did just set the DVR for deadwood so maybe I'll be adding shows instead of taking them away.

MadMax 2005-03-03 02:17 PM

West Wing, all the Law & Orders, Alias, CSI & CSI Miami ( CSI NY hasn't impressed me much so far, and I like Gary Sinise's work in general), The Apprentice, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis

All good stuff.

PR_Tom 2005-03-03 02:18 PM

I like Survivor, Apprentice, Amazing Race and other game shows like those.
I've been watching that Super Nanny show also. Kinda fun.

Dont much care for cops, lawyers, doctors, medical examiners type shows.. I might like the drama in them, but dont care for the violent backdrop I guess. Not sure.. They just dont appeal to me. |huh

I like interview shows a lot. I'll often never see a movie, but I'll remember the star(s) being on Letterman or Conan or something, lol.

West Wing use to be (first couple of seasons) but they lost the "spark" that made it important, and have spent more time on shocking revelations and character development that takes away from the whole situation.

Law and Order is a good trusty show, however a recent spate of character replacements has shifted the balance very rapidly, and made it somewhat less entertaining this season. I am enjoying SVU and CI more now, especially with the news of Chris Noth bringing the Mike Logan character over to CI.

CSI (the original) is a total don't miss. I have the first few seasons on DVD, and I tend to watch the repeats anyway. Very smart writing, amazing production qualities, and a sharpness of image you don't see in many shows. I love logic games, and this show really gets me thinking. The other CSIs to a lesser degree (I don't like David Caruso much, I think he is like watching a puppet rather than an actor), and the NY one just hasn't caught me yet.

Cops. I feel much better about my own life when I see how stupid so many other people are. This is an offshoot of working freelance news for a couple of years.

Honorable mentions to Coronation Street (been on forever), Trailer Park Boys (hate it / love it), and past good HBO shows like OZ (one of the most powerful collective cast efforts I have ever seen).

cockNballs 2005-03-03 04:04 PM

does Aqua Teen Hunger Force count as a show?

Fonz 2005-03-03 04:08 PM

The only two shows that can get me out of this chair are The Shield and Angel

stuveltje 2005-03-03 04:44 PM

i only watch dicsovery stuff, and music and if they are one some good movies, i miss the series, of "married with chlidren"i love All Bundy:D

Useless 2005-03-03 05:14 PM

We're pretty much hooked on a handful of network reality shows. Fear Factor, The Amazing Race, Survivor. Of course there's Lost and the original CSI. We took a few months intermission from the time we kicked cable out of our house to when I installed DirecTV to see if we could live without one hundred thousand channels. I find that the wife and I still primarily watch just those few network shows.

Trev 2005-03-03 05:37 PM

Deadwood is #1, and now that NYPD is off that really only leaves, Lost as must see. Others that I like are, Dead Like Me, on showtime, and I have to admit.... a female friend got me semi hooked on, The OC *shamed* I usually watch, Johnny Zero.... I grew up with starsky and hutch and baretta and shows like that so I have a fondness for stupid detective shows. Oh... and the only comedy I like is, Scrubs.... really stupid show... but they make me go HAH!! at least 3 times every show.

Ms Naughty 2005-03-03 07:32 PM

Dr Who
Myth Busters
The Simpsons
And any good documentaries I can find.

Thumbler 2005-03-03 07:39 PM

At the moment, I'm hooked on 24 on Monday nights. I also like the Law and Orders and Third Watch. The West Wing first couple of seasons but then it got a bit odd.

But of course life will not be the same without NYPD blue, much as it wasn't when Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere finished

Jim 2005-03-03 07:40 PM

Yeah, my guilty tv show is Joan of Arcadia :) I can't even get my wife to watch it with me.

Netflix has Seasons 1 - 4 and the peacekeeper wars. :) I loved Farscape!

pornrex 2005-03-03 08:58 PM

Can't miss?

Even though its been long gone, I still love Seinfeld. And lately Friends. I'm starting to get into Joey, but its gonna take a while. :(

One of my all time favorites though is Magnum P.I. |thumb Actually, it was my favorite show. I remember seeing a lot of up and comers back in the day, stars today that were just starting out like a fresh faced Sharon Stone, for instance.

I really can't get into too much of what's on right now. I guess I really don't like what TV has to offer. I prefer to read or study or go for a run instead.

If I do have a few hours to kill, I guess I'll watch a good NBA game here and there but other than that, its back to the drawing board for this newbie.

Overhaulin', Rides, Myth Busters, Modern Marvels, American Chopper, Biker Buildoff the series.

Waiting for the day when DirecTV will let me just have Discovery, History, and TLC. That's all I ever watch for some strange reason. |biker :D

Greenguy 2005-03-03 10:04 PM

Fuck - I forgot 24 & The Simpsons (but I watch so many fucking episodes of The Simpsons it's almost like watching the news to me)

It's easy to forget, especially since it's so hard to find sometimes, since they're always moving it around and taking it off for weeks at a time.

ngb1959 2005-03-03 10:28 PM

24
Lost
Medium
House
Animal Cops
Jonny Zero
Montel - Wednesday w/Sylvia Brown
American Idol
CSI Miami
Green Acres
Beverly Hillbillies
Bewitched
Fox & Friends
Imus
City Confidential
Psychic Detectives
Dog Whisperer

Torn Rose 2005-03-03 10:31 PM

What pisses me off the most about scrubs was that it use to start at 8:59....

Then it started at 8:54...

Now it's back on at 9:00.....

WTF... I have the dvr set for 5 min before and after just so I can watch the whole show.

Simpson’s as well, I love watching it, but it's not a "must see" as much as it use to be, I really think the show isn’t as good as it use to be, much more miss then hit compared to what it use to be like.

docholly 2005-03-03 10:58 PM

hmm the TV usually watches me..

All the L&O's..CI is my favorite
City Confidential
American Justice
Real West
Sopranos
Sex and the City (yes even the cleaned up reruns)
Deadwood
Carnivale
OZ (GREAT show and love the cast just moved over to SVU)
Family Guy
Adult Swim
South Park
Simpsons

|yawn| i can't really remember the last time i watched an entire show.

Mishi 2005-03-04 02:02 AM

My list of "must-see" shows has dropped off a lot recently. It's down to Lost, Carnivale and The Amazing Race. Still loyal to Survivor and The Apprentice, but I wouldn't cry if I missed an episode. Still fond of Joan of Arcadia, but the quality's dropped off from the first season. (I really don't need either of the Duffs on my TV, ever.) I have managed to completely avoid American Idol this year, and I feel better for it. I'll make up for that when Big Brother starts. (I'll probably even pay for the live feeds. How sad is that?) Big Brother is like summer camp. In all the good ways, and all the bad...

I only half pay attention to Stargate SG-1 and Stargate-Atlantis, but only because I really enjoy watching SG1 in syndication, and I want to save up.

Jel 2005-03-04 06:48 AM

1. Married With Children re-runs :D
2. Hmm, I need to get away from this damn monitor more......

ecchi 2005-03-04 11:01 PM

Dr Who is the only program that they are still making that I cannot miss. However in the past there was The Prisoner and Twin Peaks. I also try not to miss any Darren Brown show, but mostly because I am studying his use of NLP.

ecchi 2005-03-04 11:03 PM

grandmascrotum - You are going to have to move across the water to New Zealand. Apparently no Australian broadcaster is going to show the new Dr Who series, but it is showing in New Zealand.

thrillho 2005-03-05 12:06 AM

Still show up for Simpsons, though it's not a stellar season. I like to watch the recent Simpsons DVDs with commentary--Conan is very entertaining. Another DVD must-have for comedy lovers is "Mr. Show". It ran for four seasons on HBO, and is one of the funniest sketch comedies ever--David Cross and Bob Odenkirk are brilliant!

As far as watching stuff that's actually being broadcast now, I dig Family Guy (can't wait for the new shows!), the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Home Movies, Sealab 2021 (as a kid, I loved the real Sealab 2020), and, I have to admit, re-runs of The West Wing. When it's firing on all cylanders, West Wing is one of the most well made television shows I've ever seen--the writing, acting, photography, and all other factors make it as cinematic a product as the boob tube has ever managed.

Oh yeah, I have also discovered "The Shield" in reruns--it took a long time for Chiklis to discover that he needed to lose twenty pounds and stop trying to be funny to be compelling LOL

GeorgeTH 2005-03-05 01:20 AM

This post must make all the TV executives happy - almost all the big shows are mentioned ;)

Mt favorites:
1. Sopranos (have all DVDs)
2. 6 Feet under (have 1-3 on DVD)
3. Coupling (a very clever English show!)
4. The Elefant (german crime similar to Cold Case, shown here on SBS with subtitles)
5. the 'original' Law & Order, not so much SVU, and never "criminal intent" - can't stand the lead!
6. sometimes Without a Trace
and don't forget the Simpson if it's not a repeat of a repeat - always good for a laugh!

Can't remember the last time there was an Australian "not-to-be-missed" show on television... Personally I can go 2-3 weeks w/o turning the thing on (except international news), but my 'better half' is a bit of an addict!

ecchi 2005-03-05 03:05 AM

I forgot, the one show that I caught every episode of every single series was Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and I think I also managed it with Dark Angel (the Jessica Alba series not the Buffy spin off), and all but the last season of Xena. But in these cases I watched them because I love watching women kicking shit out of someone, so these were more porn that TV shows for me. Plus there is the fact that Alyson Hanagan and Jessica Alba are two of the few women under 30 that I find attractive (although I don't think Alyson Hanagan is under 30 anymore).

Sumrpal 2005-03-05 08:03 AM

I've really tried to cut back on the TV, but the can't miss shows are:

House
Enterprise
West Wing
Survivor
CSI (Vegas)
Battlestar Gallactica

My guilt shows (the ones I just can't stay away from, and that my wife won't watch {maybe that's why I do it .. LOL} ) are

Joan Of Arcadia
The Gilmore Girls

I waste too much time watching TV, but it's been a long cold winter |dizzy|
