Anybody here from NY?

I'm headed out that way in next month or two and wanted to see if anyone there to hook up for a drink :)

Jim 2005-03-07 07:02 PM

Would that be New York City?

Greenguy 2005-03-07 07:39 PM

Yeah, the state of New York is kinda big :D

funbrunette 2005-03-07 07:45 PM

Got some friends in Brooklyn! |headbang|

Jim 2005-03-07 07:45 PM

A lot of people that don't live in NYS think the city is close to everyone :) I once had a company buy me a plane ticket for an interview. They made the reservation for NYC. I had to tell them it would take me longer to get to the airport than to fly out of the country :)

Useless 2005-03-08 12:10 AM

I'm another Upstater like Jim and Greenguy. I'm 3-4 hours away from the smelly apple. Outside of military service and brief employment in Japan, I have lived in New York state all of my life, but I've spent more time in Montreal than in NYC. NYC sucks. It's full of New Yorkers.

Greenguy 2005-03-08 07:42 AM

Actually, NYC is full of people like Tommy :D

Tommy 2005-03-08 11:03 AM

Tommy 2005-03-08 11:57 AM

Chop...... drive around up there and you would think you were in missippi

Yell, people travel from all over the world to see NYC, I am shocked at you

Yell 2005-03-08 12:03 PM

My county is Blue. Jim's, on the other hand, is rather Red :D

Tommy 2005-03-08 05:48 PM

although in fairness upstate does have a lot to offer

a couple times a week I think to myself I should have moved upstate

urb 2005-03-09 09:31 AM

I have cousins in Syracuse.
Never been there... what is Syracuse like?

Thumbler 2005-03-09 09:32 AM

Forgive my ignorance - but what exactly is 'upstate' ?

Greenguy 2005-03-09 09:42 AM

"upstate" is anything above New York City & a term that people in NYC use. Jim lives in Central New York & I live in Western New York. I can't stand it when they refer to Buffalo as "upstate" |banghead|

HC-Majick 2005-03-09 09:46 AM

maybe i should change my location to the southern tier of ny....lol

I guess I'm "upstate" too..One the border of Rockland/Orange counties about 40 minutes from westchester..
is westchester "upstate" too??
And yes, we have a pick-up truck..no gun rack tho..a laptop rack for wardriving..
And we also have a Jeep..perfect for sneaking up on them thar cows for some cow-tippping fun.

Greenguy 2005-03-09 10:53 AM

To me, "upstate" stops a couple miles west of Albany :D

I've never been to NYC. It just sounds like Chicago except with more crazy people. :D

I tease greeny about updsate because its a good way to annoy him

we looked at some houses up by that race track saratoga and to this day babrbara still talks about how we should have bought one

and long island is starting to suck a little bit

All I'd have to do is call Barbie & remind her how much she loved my house & all the land & maybe mention that there's a house down the road with twice as much land as mine for less than you paid for your current house & you'd be moving up here in about 3 months :D

PS - I like the text under your name |bananna|

Tommy 2005-03-09 11:49 AM

na... what happens when something happens at one of the houses in the city

I drive 6 hours for a leaky pipe or to shovel the snow

a 6 hr drive to reset a breaker

it would never work

Tommy - when I lived in Saratoga I hated it - but then I didnt have my gun rack on the pickup :) - The town is overrun with the Skiddie Kiddies 8 months of the year (Skidmore girls) getting drunk and not knowing what the hell they are doing, then August is when everybody leaves so that they can rent their houses out to the race people for 20k a month - other than that, its like a mini Greenwich Village with bunches of former and wanna be hippies (yeah I was one of those former ones) that think art and bagels are the two most important things in the world (at least they got the bagels right) :)

You ought to come on down to Ms - see what living in the real country is like - of course dont come on a Wed. - everything closes down for church :)

Wow, a local! Saratoga Springs (about 30 minutes south of me) is a very pretty place with lots of pretty old buildings and pretty young faces and a very corrupt police chief and political party. It's all a facade. Sarartoa is where you move to show off your money and make people think you have class even when it is obvious that you don't. I'm not a fan of Saratoga either. Can you tell? But then again, I'm not a fan of where I live, which is where you move when you are ready to admit that you have neither class nor money. :D

I'm in the woods of north NJ. Moved here from Paterson, NJ.
I used to work in NYC and I'll always love the city.

It's amazing how different it is here in north NJ compared to Paterson - lol!
I went from the heroin capitol to the corn field capitol - lol!

I have a cousin who lives right on Seneca lake (Watkins Glen)

No, we've all been too busy keeping up with the train wreck

Greenguy 2005-03-10 06:43 PM

Tommy 2005-03-11 09:33 AM

you guys are gonna think this is stupid but
My dream house would have around 20 acres of woods with a stream that I could build a dam on to generate electricty and maybe a few windmills and a few solar panals

I wouldnt mind spending the rest of my days building stuff to generate electricty

this house would also have a wood burning boiler for heat

Greenguy 2005-03-11 09:45 AM

That's not stupid Tommy - I'd really like to get a windmill here but I'd have to destroy my backyard (for a 3rd time) in order for them to get it set up & the lines to the house & all.

And we burn wood all winder in the fireplace - heats up most of the bottom of the house & cuts back on the gas bill.
