New kind of spam - by post mail...

Now that sucks! Today I received a mail with check inside??? No! With the advertisement of TeenRevenue program. What do you think about it? I really don't like it and the way the Venus Manahement tries to get new webmasters... If I would like to use their webmaster program, I found it myself...
|angry|

Btw. I'm NOT using their webmasters program.

Rocco 2005-04-14 08:36 AM

you know what I get? post mail flyers for a online casino ;) think I will start to hyde my mailbox

Kinky 2005-04-14 08:41 AM

if that is the only spam you get by actual mail you are lucky... I get spam in my house mailbox every week TRYING TO SELL ME PORN!!! and I also got the teenrevenue mailer also even though I am already signed up

blind 2005-04-14 08:42 AM

I read something about it at GFY. I'm signed up with TripleXCash but still don't like that kind of advertising a new program for webmasters

Useless 2005-04-14 08:43 AM

I got that glossy little flyer too. I don't mind 'real' mail, which is odd, because I mind everything. At least they bothered to put some effort and money into promoting themselves instead of spamming the boards day and night or filling my inbox with trash. So I give them credit in that regard.

Plus, Evil Chris always seems to be an upstanding guy on the boards and he's part of Teen Revenue, so at least you're getting mail from good people.

Fonz 2005-04-14 08:46 AM

I thought I received one of those $10,000 checks I get twice a week, turned out to be that flyer you guys talk about.. wasn't even a URL on it... bummer :(

Jim 2005-04-14 08:47 AM

I constantly get bisexual military video advertisements in the mail. I have no idea why I get them every month. I always get embareassed when I pull the packgage from the po box at the post office.

Greenguy 2005-04-14 09:40 AM

Good to know that Jim is getting the mail Skippy signed him up for :D

Kenny B! 2005-04-14 10:09 AM

I got that advertisement too, what a waste of a stamp! At least send a check for a couple bucks!

I gotta say I really like your way of adding board members usernames into signatures and posts... probably the reason that "how long have you been working online" post has gotten so many hits!

Jeremy 2005-04-14 10:26 AM

Ooooooo, ==><== *that close*

You're a bastage Greenie! :-)))

Anyway, you told me Jim hates that bisexual stuff & only likes the gay military bdsm.

Bruce Miller 2005-04-14 10:53 AM

99% of my postal mail is spam... come buy this... free offer for that... refinance today... they have been filling up my mail box for years with crap. Recently we have been getting a few adult flyers too. There is no escape from spam these days :(

Tommy 2005-04-14 11:02 AM

Thats a point that no one makes about spam
some of you might think this is a little on the edge but...

I get so much junk mail and its all completly legal for these people to send me this stuff

in fact the post office has junk mail kits for buisnesses

I called capitol one and it was a bit of a pain in the ass to get off their mailing lists
this junk mail is made of paper that comes from trees the postman has to carry this mail to my front door, I have to flip through it looking for legit mail and then toss the junk mail in the trash and carry that trash to the curb where it ends up in a landfill

all completly legal

But email Spam ...... all the recipent has got to do is hit the delete button
or get a filter. How come everyone is ready to hang email spamers from a cross

why is junk mail legal ... Because the goverment (us postal service) makes money from it

Just like gambling its such a bad thing but its ok when the govemment gets a peice
(lotto scratch cards bingo otb)

RawAlex 2005-04-14 11:17 AM

Tommy, internet junk mail isn't subject to the many restrictions that exist for commercial snail mail. Triplexcash sent individually addressed envelopes with material inside to promote a new program. Quite possibly costing them less total than having a banner for a few days on the top of GFY or whatever, and insuring that they are talking to webmasters, not surfers. Very few surfers would be signed up to their programs. Plain white envelope, not transparent, no big "HOT NEW TEEN SEX PROGRAM INSIDE" or anything like that on the envelope. I suspect they have gotten way better results than a full page ad in AVN magazine (and it is more timely, less lead time).

As for mailspam versus email spam, the difference lies in who bears the cost of the promotion.

Emailspam basically costs the sender nothing - a connection, a rented server, and a list of addresses. After that, just keep spewing until someone disconnects you. Get new connection, rented server, reuse your list, and keep going. The dufus that got 9 years was sending upwards to 10 million messages per day. The recipient has to pay for internet connection, computer, and time to get rid of this stuff, and because it doesn't adhere to any rules, it is difficult to determine useful versus spam mail. You are basically forced to pay close attention to all email looking for good stuff. It makes it much harder to use the email for it's intended purpose, uses up time, etc. 10 million messages, 3 seconds each of personal time to handle... a full 365 days (at 24 hours per day) of work time wasted to delete this stuff, plus bigger mail servers, faster net connections, filters, firewalls, spam removers... the costs on the receiving end are staggering. email spam is sent automatically and treated manually, and manual is expensive. Sure, those expenses are spread over a large number of people and 3 second isn't a long time - but if you handle thousands of pieces of spam per day (and many people get that much) you are looking at a full time job just deleting stuff off your email. Worse, you end up changing email addresses, which means contacting all the important people, getting them to switch, just in time for a spammer to get ahold of it again and the whole cycle starts over.

SnailMail spam reverses the deal. The costs are all on the sender. Produce the piece to get sent, maybe a few cents each. USPS charges anywhere from 10 cents to 30 cents per piece depending on your mailing situation. They have very strict rules as to size, material, etc. So if you want to send 10 million pieces per day, at 13 cents net (3 cents for the piece, 10 cents to deliver) you are looking at 1.3 million dollars per day.

Do you really think that many snail mailers would resend the same thing to you every day 5 times per day for 6 months facing those numbers?

The difference is obvious.

yeah i got in mail funny shit because i am signed in at that program already, which pisses me more of not to use it, lol my kids came yelling:"mom a check" and they may open the mail for me( i get good mail no porn, well atleast i thought) , so not very funny if i get that in my mail... |cry|

SirMoby 2005-04-15 10:47 AM

It's not complicated. Send porn junk mail to my home and loose me as a partner. I love those marketing people that never bother to understand thier target market.

Junk mail is legal but the senders pay for the entire cost and of course government makes money on it. The thing I hate about spam is that the senders are using up my money in order to put that advertisment on my computer. We all have to pay for Internet access and I've been sitting in hotel rooms paying by the minute as junk spam is being downloaded.

Kiss my ass !!! Its not up to you to decide what I get in my mailbox or email. Its not up to you decide what kind of communication I like and dislike from affiliate programs.

Go back to work and stop whining you'll make more money!

I compleately agree. There is no problem reaching me with e-mail so I have absolutely no interest in getting any advertisement in the mail from the sponsors except if there is a check they wanna send me or the yearly christmas card. If I get one in my box it will go directly into the fire place where it will at least do some good. Never got a christmas present from a sponsor before so save the bucks on advertisements in mail until christmas and use the oppertunity to please a hard working webmaster instead|santa2

what the hell is an Pottery Barn catalog? we only get, neckerman, wehkamp, morres, readest digest, otto, bakker, and about 100"you win an 100.000 euro"shit, about 7 free newspapers and about 50 other free flyers a week:D but no porn:D till now |couch|

Bruce Miller 2005-04-16 12:16 AM

I totally understand what you all mean about getting adult junk mail in your mail box, and I understand that yes, the government is making money from the postage and that the company sending you the junk mail is paying for it, but in a nutshell I hate that way more than spam. I throw away about 15 mailings a day, each a few pages long, that stuff fills up my trash can pretty fast. They kill tons of trees each year with it. What I don't understand is why the consumers do not complain more about it. IMHO junk postal mail should be banned as well, unless I subscribe to "please fill my trash can" list.

Pottery Barn is mainstream, dude. Now - let's talk about Ballard Designs. That's PORN, baby. And I don't appreciate it one bit. How dare those bastards fill me with lustful desires? I yearn for their (curtain) rods. I crave their sexy (drawer and door) knobs.

*sigh*

Biggest disappointment here was opening a 'chck' to find out it wasn't!
I can see the point about the content though - my daughter is 9 and although there is nothing x rated I wouldn't have wanted her opening that one up.
Oh, and I was also already signed up with them :) Gotta say though, that if I wasn't, that wouldn't have led me to sign up, I'd have been far far more tempted to sign up if it was made as an announcement on the boards.

Yeah - that is the one thing that pisses me off - the 1st time I got one like this, I emailed the sponsor & told them they forgot to include my check :D

I'm not special, so I didn't get this particular junk mail - how was it delivered? Regular envelope? Post card type thing? Magazine/flyer?

stuveltje 2005-04-16 07:48 AM

its was so small kind of envolope thing where you expect your checks in with poststamp, and in that a small thin flyer thing with text to promoot the program and then the 3 famouse teens on it

Thumbler 2005-04-16 08:16 AM

Mine was delivered by the mailman :D

It just came in a regular envelope, could easily have been a check from CC Bill - except there was no check inside of course

Again, seriously - and I'd be interested in others thoughts here - if it was a board announcement I'd have looked into it in more detail. There you go teen revenue - honest feedback ;) Hope it helps! :)
