Talk about being in a foul mood
A couple of years ago, while fighting to get custody of my daughter, her school tried to fail her because she missed too much school going to court.
Now...one week before graduation, my daughter calls and tells me they are not going to let her graduate. She failed a non regents course. I said to the principal, "at least give her a blank diploma so she can walk on that stage". He tells me he can't. I have an appointment with the Superintendent tomorrow. I am hoping that bringing up my daughters grandmother will help. WTF...I hate this local school. |
geeze, bring your lawyer as well.
Good Luck. |
I threatened the lawyer thing. The thing is...they let us know a week or so away. Nothing to do but hope.
|
A few weeks ago the news ran a story on a catholic school, a teen got pregnant and the school refused to let her attend the ceremony and gave her diploma the morning of at her home, BUT they let the father of the baby attend and walk across the stage.
When the last name was read, she stood up and yelled her own name and walked across the stage to a cheering student section. Not to give her any ideas..... |
That is a good idea Torn. And you know, if it were me, I would do it. But, my daughter is not quite the rebel that I am :)
|
Do you really think it's a good idea to let Torn impregnate your daughter just to get her diploma?
|couch| |
That really sucks Jim. I'll be so glad when I don't have to deal with the school systems any more. My son who has real learning disablities is heading for his last year after school restats. They give all the kids here an fcat test that he can't and never will pass. But.......you can't graduate until you do. I really think kids should be graded on their ability to learn. But no....they grade them all as equals. I find that so unfair, I'll be at the school come August fighting for him again... |angry|
I sure hope everything works out ok for your daughter.....good luck! |

I actually hesitated on posting that one. It's even off-color for me.
Oh, here's a little ditty for a ya. This morning, the wife and I were discussing the hoopla of over the new 2257 stuff. (you may have heard about it ;) ) So, I was complaining about everyone jumping ship and how my sponsors are screwing my plans of not removing sites and galleries by demanding that I pull certain content. I said, "There are no brave people in online porn". My wife replied, "Just Jim". True story. |

I love ya Jim, but if she failed, she shouldn't graduate.

That's completely different, seeing as people are innocent until proven guilty - court being the "test" and being guilty means they "failed" :D
Why bother grading kids at all - maybe just send them to High School for 4 years & then give them a diploma? |
I don't think he's looking to give her a free ride, just trying to avoid the embarassment of being excluded from graduation. It is a right of passage after all. They could hand her a blank piece of paper with the requirement that she attend summer school.
Next thing you know, you're going to say that only virgins can go to the prom - and where would have that left my wife? |
I'm just gonna shut the fuck up.

But I think the bigger issues is where was her guidance consular at the beginning of the year telling her "you are short"? Mine told me at the start of my junior year I was short, so I picked up more classes and was 3+ then I needed to graduate. She might have failed, but the school failed as well and 1 week notice is way worse then what she has done. |
Torn impregnated Jim's daughter???
I thought that Angel had impregnated Torn. This thread is so confusing… |

school things i have nothing then those things, with my son, he cant learn well ( must have it from his dad, stu hope hubby wont see this, otherwise she can sleep in the barn) i hate when people say " oh i wish i had finished school" i think bulshit, i have bin on school till age of 21 and then when i dropped of school i could work in a supermarket with my stuff i learned for, hell yeah right, i always say some school years are needed but an diploma to make money you dont need, we say in dutch : waar een will is is een weg" m not sure how to translate that in english but it should mean something like: if you realy want there is an way and you shall succeed!!! still good you go afte the teach , i do all the time :)
|
Stu is it "Where theres a will theres a way?" :D We have that saying too.
Jim if it says in the rules that they had to give 2 months notice then can't u have a lawyer do something? |

I didnt have enough "credits" to graduate. I was 6 credits short because I failed some stupid course.. like gym or geography or lunch I don't remember but anyway the school still lets you go on stage and collect a fake diploma, so to everyone I did graduate. I then went to summer school and took a math course that I knew I would pass and I barely made it hahahaha.. but the point is I did. So a few weeks later, I received my official gov't diploma.
Its just crazy that they don't them them fake it and make up for it... good luck Jim. |
well i have to say for all the crap ny takes..they have a great school system..when we moved to NV the 1st time.. i had a daughter who was a jr and a son who was a sophmore in high school. at the end of their respective years, the principal of the school called us in and said if we wanted to, they'd administer to them the 'ged' test and give them recommendations to early admission to college. my son took that option, my daughter choose to stay and graduate. but both of them had gone to nyc public schools, my son had 4 yrs of japanese from 6 thru 9th grade and regents level math and science.
no way could nv match.. and nothings changed since they are still number 49 in the states for education.. now alabama can say thank goddess for Mississippi and Nevada. i have no idea why i'm rambling.. i guess i thought this was my blog.. lmao.. immigration overload |yawn
Well, we had the meeting. My lawyer, the Superintendent, Guidance Counselor, myself and surprise, surprise, they brought my daughter in.
We started talking and my daughter stood up and said, "I don't want my dad to spend another penny on this. I will go to summer school and get my diploma when I am done." I have never been so proud of her. |

And so you should be. Bravo to your daughter :) |
I forgot to mention. My daughter failed this class with a 63. 65 is passing. The class is not an important class and the school where my mother used to teach has offered to graduate my daughter. But, she doesn't want a diploma from another school.
I have to go talk to a School Board Member (Neighbor of mine) this afternoon. :) I have to keep trying as long as I don't spend any money. This, my friends, is what fathers do for their daughters. They fight to the death for them. |
I was also threatened to be arrested yesterday when I said I would jump up and scream my daughter's name when it should be called. All in all, my daughter was afraid. My Lawyer wants to wait until the Friday of Graduation and get a judge to order the school to allow her on stage. Being a Friday, the school would not have time to stop it. But, I am doing as my daughter has asked.
|
Damn.. take the offer from the other school and its done with. Sometimes I take the easy way out, but thats just me.
Good luck Jim! |

Here, if you don't have $78 for the cap and gown stuff you can't walk accross the stage. I found that out when we went to my daughters last month and noticed her best friend not sitting with the rest of the students. That had to suck for her. |waves| |peace| |dizzy
I even offered a bribe. I said that it would cost a few thousand to use a lawyer and I would much rather put that into a scholarship :)
