Foe me, the board is getting slower and slower, anyone else?
It often takes 3-10 refreshes to get a page to load.
It's been bad for a while but it is getting worse. Am I the only one having this problem? I thought this was a mysql problem that was going to be fixed, but it's still pretty bad for me. |
It has been fine for me lately.
Do a traceroute, maybe it is a routing issue. |
The loading speed goes back and forth for me. Last night it was slower than old people fuck. Now it's a tad better |sad|
|
It had been slow for me but the last fews days it has been fine.|bananna|
|
Oddly enough, I got an email last night saying they tinkered with the box & changed some configs & whatnot, because they know the board is a little slow too.
Being on a cable modem, it's really hard for me to notice a change in load time & unless a page is really, really slow, I rarlely notice load times :( So, I guess it's time for a poll........ |
How's The Board Loading?
How's The Board Loading?
|
It fluctuates for me. Today, and the last few days, it has been loading fine for me. Some days it just sits there waiting for the banners to load.
Maybe it would be a good idea to put the free content and any other high BW items on another server, don't know just a suggestion. |
I have good and bad days too. Actually, good and bad hours.
|
I it always loads fine for me I am on cable but its always the same :)
|
Bill - I had a similar problem a while back - of course everything was slow fo rme - found out I had realsched.exe running in my processes in the task manager - cut that out and everything went back to zooming - best it can on a dial-up modem anyway :)
|
slow for me.....it seems to hang between pages and threads
|
i get 'double' loads sometimes.. it loads the page then reloads it again on its own.. kinda weird..

Where's that "turtle" icon when you need it....
Still slow from down here.... :( DD |
Just so everyone knows, PHP and MYSQL is being tweaked to make everything run faster. I suspect that over the next week, we will see a lot of improvements.
|
Like DD I find it very very slow from Australia. I had to reload 3 times to post this message.
|
The other day it was painfully slow, but today sems much better.
|
Jim, today it seems okay, some slowdowns and such, nothing really specific, although I have a feeling that there are two issues at work here:
The banner rotator for the 7 banners on the page is a little slow. I am thinking that you are calling 7 seperate instances of it, rather than calling it once to do all the work. Not sure of the solution here, but it seems to be an issue from what I can see. Are you using mysql_pconnect? Also, you might want to look at the page structure to make sure you are not doing too much as "tables in tables"... make the top section with the banners and such one piece, make the center one piece, and make the bottom a piece. After each section, have php do a flush command to force it to send the block so far, which will help that part appear on the screen faster. Finally, look at things that are done dynamically that can be done hard coded, such as lists of smilies... Maybe have the first 30 be a predone piece of code, so you don't have to open a database to get them, as it doesn't change that often. Run a new code insert when you add new ones. Oh yeah... check closely to make sure that database items that are being sorted on are INDEXED. It is often the single most forgotten part of DB developement. If you are sorting things by username, make sure that username in that table is indexed. That will make it MUCH faster, as the machine won't have to do a sort each time it is accessed, only when something is added or removed. Alex |
Keep up the comments guys. The techs at National Net are reading them and paying attention.
|
It's really slow from here, have to refresh to see a page quite often...This is the same for many other Aussie webmasters I talk to too.
|
It's very fast from where I am (midlands, UK).
Like Shit Thru A Goose (never heard that expression before) |jester| |
I just hit refresh on this thread..... 8 seconds to load the page.
Using Mozilla with broadband. |
Today is a new day :) and I must say the board is zipping along at the speed of frozen snot |sad|
|
Did ya ever stop & think that maybe we just don't like Australians?
|bananna| GOOD ON YA MATE! BOB'S YOUR UNCLE! |
Haha.. GG... it's time you came down here.. so I can teach you to speak properly!
..and bring MML with ya.. we were just talking about an aussie visit yesterday.. :D DD |
I am sorry but the last 4 days or so its been really slow
almost unreachable before when the board was loading I went downstairs perked a pot of coffee, made a cup, came back upstairs and the page still wasnt finished loading just a blank beigeish/green page and privacy warnings about cookies from cleos-porn-links |
The banner rotator that the board uses and that I also use uses cookies.
Do you have your browser set to warn before accepting cookies? |

Cleo, it is not standard but not far from it anymore to get a warning if you are getting an "off" cookie when surfing. I have mine set up to block certain cookies, such as sextracker. It doesn't care for cookies from the same domain, but it does trigger when it comes from another domain if you set it that way.
Not sure why a banner rotator needs a cookie, but there ya go. ;-) Alex |
It's very slow for me... It's been especially bad since the new look.
However, I can't tell what's taking so long to load, because what happens on my end is this: I open a thread and see a blank white page for quite some time. When it finally does load, everything shows at once. Basically, it's not showing me any of the page until everything is loaded. At least I think that's what's happening. |
Still brutally slow for me. It took OVER AN HOUR to get this page to load. It hangs, and my best chance to get it to load is to refresh. I probably refreshed this page 8-10 times before I could read it.
Yesterday I left a page alone without refreshing just to see what would happen... 3 hours later it was still just a blank light green page, still trying to load. |
It's about half way back to normal speed for me as I type this |goodnight
|
It take about 30 sec for mine to load but it used to be a lot quicker. It seems faster than it did 2 days ago or maybe I have had too many VB's |jester|
|
Unbearably slow for me... still. Slower than when the board first started.
|
Changing servers hasn't changed anything on my end. Still could load faster |sad|
|
Unbelievably fucking sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
When it finally loads, it loads fast and just fine. something is causing it to hang, on the blank light green page, before anything else loads. I'm not on a fast connection, but I'm visiting dozens to hundreds of domains a day, and none but this are this slow for me. |
Something you have to remember...and Cleo has been guilty of this a few times but...when you are calling banners from another server, that server may be very slow or even down as well.
I wish there was a way to put everyones banner on our server and load it from here but I just looked and we do not have that option. |
Yeah I had server problems for a couple of days a month or so ago so naturally my sig file, which comes from my link list server, didn't load and hung the board.
Of course we have lots of webmasters and most are serving a banner from their servers, but I've noticed that if it is someone's sig the board will hang at the post causing problems and not the whole board. This board, like just about all web pages, loads a lot faster in Mozilla then in IE. |
This board does and has always loaded very very slow for me. I don't know why but it makes it where I only visit every other day or so and click a thread link if it sounds like something I can't live without reading.
And I'm on a cable modem also |
