Are you going to Internext?

So who is going to Internext in Florida next month? Trying to get a role call here. :)

Do you think the new format shift away from the floor show will be better?

Surfn 2005-07-13 11:58 AM

I might go...then again I might not. It depends. How's that for a solid answer? ;)

Ramster 2005-07-13 12:09 PM

I'm going. Will be there Wednesday and leaving Sunday am.

juggernaut 2005-07-13 01:08 PM

|mml| I will not be going. Not that it would matter much. But I don't think I have been in this business long enough to warrent me spending that cash. But I do look forward to attending one of those conventions just to check it out and to see if porn stars really look as good in person as they do on the net.

PS I edited this post lol.

PPS then I edited it again

MrMaryLou 2005-07-13 01:09 PM

Hey Surfn |waves|

That's pretty much what I'm thinking... if no one I know is going, I might skip it this year, but we'll see. :)

Fuck that...AVN needs to think about the webmasters just a little more than they do now.

spacemanspiff 2005-07-13 06:34 PM

I'm going. I hear they have pictures of naked women there. |thumb

RawAlex 2005-07-13 07:06 PM

I will be there... Wednesday to Sunday. However, I do agree with Jim, they need to look at the dates and locations of these events and make it just a little more logical. Considering we are paying pretty much standard rates for rooms, plus $300 at the door to get in, and actions taken this year will limit the number of people attending.

The Vegas show also needs to serious looking at - it would be MUCH better a show if it ran AFTER the video show and not before it. CES if running 5th to 8th this year, so either we will run the webshow starting on new year's day, or they are pretty much doomed to move it to another date. I will not pay $300 -$500 for a room new year's eve in vegas, that is criminal. If the show isn't after (say 10th to 12th) I think that Vegas in January might be a scrub for me. At the last show I spent hardly any time actually at the show, that can tell you my level of "impressed".

Erick G 2005-07-13 07:58 PM

Only thing I get from those shows are massive headaches and beer shits the next day.
Done it 4 times and got 0 business done I was so trashed:) But collected a bazallion business cards from who knows where. I must be getting old.

spookyx 2005-07-13 08:01 PM

The whole Lotzadollars team and a few models are coming

Spookyx, Sharon, Ed, Lori, Bob, Susie, Natasha, JC and Sharon's boytoy.

is gabbo going?

|waves|

dareutwo 2005-07-14 01:46 PM

Nope, not going - I hate Florida... but that was discussed last year :)

Gnus 2005-07-14 02:40 PM

Nope not going. The wife and I went a few years ago to Vegas Internext and we really wasn't impressed. Tho the Booty Ball at Sherrys Ranch was awesome. At that time we paid $250 for both of us to go and now it's $300 a person. Sorry but for the average webmaster that is just too much money. I know of other things I could spend my hard earned money on than a convention. Like content, scripts, etc. which I would get more of a return on than a convention.

Gary

chadknowslaw 2005-07-14 03:38 PM

I signed up to attend in May and paid the $250 for my ticket. In June I was asked to sit on the legal panel and I could have a free pass |huh [already given away so don't need to ask]
It is expensive to go but I think worth it. I really liked the Phoenix Forum with no show floor and I'll wait until I see how this works before I give it a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Linkster 2005-07-14 05:19 PM

Yep - going - already had reservations and pass in hand when I found out that some people werent going that I normally do biz with - but not going to waste the 1000.00 since they wont even think about refunds - and after all - where else in the world can you get a bloody mary for $15 and 30 peeled shrimp for $25 :) - and lets not forget the hamburgers for $20 (oh you wanted fries - hang on lemme fix your ticket) - but it will still be a good opportunity to get some biz done that Ive been putting off and to see my friends so it wont be a total loss

Cleo 2005-07-14 05:26 PM

I live less then 10 miles from it and I'm not going, sad, very sad…

Actually I'm not going for the same reason Linkster isn't.

natalie 2005-07-14 05:36 PM

I'm surprised no one has referenced this wonderful thread yet :D

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...ad.php?t=17973

Linkster 2005-07-16 07:53 AM

And now there's a new wrinkle to the whole thing - seems that someone missed the fact that since everyone has to have a badge to even get in the hotel - that means all the eye-candy and "talent" has to have full price badges as well :)

Greenguy 2005-07-16 07:57 AM

So if I took MrMaryLou with me, I'd have to get him a badge?

Fuck That! :D

Surfn 2005-07-16 07:59 AM

After reading through their form for the 5th time I've decided to tell them to take a piss...

Linkster 2005-07-16 08:42 AM

GG - exactly - and even if you wanted to take the Bitch and she didnt want on the "floor" she would still have to have a badge to stay at the hotel with you LOL - no discounts for significant others since the whole hotel will be the "floor" this time - I noticed the actual booth floor show times were cut in half as well - Id hate to be a sponsor that was depending on just a booth - same price with half the show hours

Cleo 2005-07-16 09:10 AM

I could go for the price of the badge since I live by it and can drive home each day. This still means that I get to spend $20 each time I'm hungry for something, at least for us vegetarians, that isn't even very good.

Really for me cost is not an issue since I would only be bringing myself and don't even have to stay there or travel.

I'm not going because what's the point of going, they fucked it up and now most of the people that I do business with aren't going. :(

I've been to most of the shows, I just go to them to network and see old friends. I could care less about half naked porn talent and drunken parties. As far as I can tell they have turned the hotel into one big party convention instead of a convention with some parties.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not interested enough to go.

Sheri Santiago 2005-07-16 09:28 AM

The three of us aren't going. I am way too busy this summer, still catching up from the San Diego show.

Only time will tell, but I think there will actually be more business and less hijinks since alot of those that were only there to look and party will be at home.

A number of the people that I wanted to see aren't attending, but most are still going to be there. I'm still new enough in the biz, this time around anyway, that some face time with some sponsors and some other webmasters will pay some dividends later.

Linkster 2005-07-16 10:58 AM

Cleo - actually - I just found out that breakfast and lunch are going to be provided free - of course who knows what they will be :) But I guess it cuts down the cost a little

Torn Rose 2005-07-16 11:37 AM

I've asked this before Linkster, the restaurant holds at the MOST 500 people at one time, Breakfast and Lunch are free but only for set hours, they expect 5000+ people.... do you see a problem?

Westin is going to make a HUGE profit off room service and if it’s anything like the past 4 years it will take 2 hours to get food that cost $30 more then it should.

FYI to all, there is a Boston Market 2 miles away and Papa John’s will deliver… at least they use to.

Cleo 2005-07-16 11:53 AM

Papa John’s better get passes for all their pizza delivery people.

ScreaM 2005-07-17 03:29 AM

Whenever i try to make it something gets in my way. :(

Simon 2005-07-17 07:53 AM

I've done some Internext shows, in both Florida and Las Vegas. I've been a visitor, exhibitor, and roundtable presenter. And even as just a visitor wandering around, I've made good contacts at most of the shows. But all the folks I already know, I don't need to pay to see again (we have other ways to spend our money together now). And most of the folks I haven't met, and might want to see and meet F2F, aren't going to this one for various reasons. So even though it's 'just a bit north' of us, we're not going this time.

I really hope the show does well the way it's being organized this time, but I don't think that the way they're 'shaping' the show is going to make it very useful for 80-90% of webmasters today. Keeping the focus on the show may be what they want to see happen, but I'd bet that, as usual, most of the serious conversations and most of the important deals won't be made on the show floor or at any show events.

Don't get me wrong. I think that's the way deals should be done. But I also think that the show either needs to make how we do business easier, simpler, more relaxed, faster, or somehow 'better' than we can do it without all the show extras, or it's just not of much benefit. It's like they think the deals done off the floor are an added benefit of going to the show, instead of realizing that it's the show that's the added benefit...or not.

Simon

Linkster 2005-07-17 08:17 AM

Torn - it sounds more like they are setting up "continental style" breakfasts and lunches - not sure they would try to do it in the dining area - more likely in one of the hallways near the conference rooms like most events do it. Im not really sure about that number of expected people though - I had heard a much smaller number but maybe that was associated with the 900 or so rooms there. I do know they are evidently completely sold out in the hotel with a waiting list??

Well put. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's messed up. Florida this time of year is just insanely too hot, and traveling right after New Years and X-Mas sucks.
