2006 Internext and AVN running at the same time.

Just got an email from Rose Travel which said:
NEW THIS YEAR!

INTERNEXT & ADULT ENTERTAINMENT EXPO at the same time!

Internext January 5 - 7, 2006 (Sands Expo)

Adult Entertainment Expo January 5 - 8, 2006 (Sands Expo)

The AVN Awards show will be Saturday January 7, 2006 (Venetian)

So they are overlapping, as well as moving Internext back to the Venetian.

Good? Bad? You don't give a rats ass?

Your thoughts on this?

Surfn 2005-08-01 11:17 AM

I think it will help but I'm still not going.

Cleo 2005-08-01 11:25 AM

I hate Vegas, not planing on going at this time.

Ramster 2005-08-01 11:26 AM

I think rooms will be expensive and hard to come by. I bet the CES is the same weekend, always is.

Toby 2005-08-01 12:09 PM

Yes CES is also running those same dates. Vegas will be a huge mass of people doing nothing but waiting in line. Getting a cab or a "quick" bite to eat will be impossible.

Dr Bizzaro 2005-08-01 12:12 PM

Since the news was from Rose Travel, I got the room rate sheet as well. They are expensive. Even with the "discount".

From 1/4-1/8 they are running $279/nt for a 1 bed room.

2 Queens runs $299 for that same period.

3 night minimum.

I'm planning on going for about 5 days this time, but I'm not sure if I am going to stay at Venetian again or not.

If you are not staying there, where are you staying?

Jim 2005-08-01 12:16 PM

Still not going to any AVN event. Change the dates and locations and I will be there :)

Torn Rose 2005-08-01 02:42 PM

Depends on what Purdue does in Football, if they make it to a BCS game like they should we are going to that, and then may go to Vegas for a few days.

SirMoby 2005-08-01 02:47 PM

Internext focuses on business to business and Adult Entertainment Expo draws a lot of consumers. Basically there will be a huge invasion of consumers at the show and many companies will try to be hosting booths and events for 2 completely different crowds.

I think this is a bad thing and last year the show was small and very poorly organised. There was a 3 hour wait to register just because they hired 3 people to work the registration instead of 6.

I think in 2 years the AVN shows will be considered the smaller shows and other better organized shows will take their place.

Useless 2005-08-01 02:49 PM

I'm still researching to find out how the fine for sleeping in a shopping cart on the strip compares to the price for a hotel stay 40 miles away. I plan on going, but I also planned on being an attorney. So, as I told my wife on our wedding day - expect nothing and hope for very little.

Greenguy 2005-08-01 04:40 PM

I'll be there, but only because I'm addicted to gambling & my room & food will be comp'd at The Venetian :D

I'm addicted to gambling so much that I am going to Vegas for the Miami internext show :D

Lunatic 2005-08-01 04:59 PM

I'm not going because I don't have any money. Plus I think they should have the January Internext in Florida and the August one in Vegas. In January Miami is usually warmer than Vegas, and in August Vegas doesn't get hurricanes and has no humidity.

Really? Damn. In that case why not get the presidential suite, and I'll stay in the other bedroom.

That works for me.

Ramster 2005-08-01 05:24 PM

I usually stay at Harrahs but they are showing $270.00 a night. If I have to pay $1500 for hotel alone to go I may skip it. This is getting ridiculas going to shows now. Hotel badge, and flight and it's $2500 out of pocket before doing a damn thing. :(

I was actually thinking about bumping up to the next level of rooms since the last 4 times I went they paid for everything because of my gambling problem :D

They can get the Florida hotel rooms in August for next to nothing and resell them to us for full price so they're not going to change that.

Most rooms in Vegas this year will be either $300+ a night after tax or you'll be sleeping with cock roaches. This is just getting silly.

emmanuelle 2005-08-01 08:15 PM

For those concerned about the prices, keep in mind that even the least expensive room at the Venetian will sleep 6 comfortably. Also, there is always the TI across the road which is about $75/night but you will add a few kilometers of walking to your day.

Lunatic 2005-08-01 08:44 PM

It seems like the problem with costs is the adult internet industry is made up of quite a few sole proprietors who don't have the money or can't justify spending the money to go to a show. In other industries the attendees have the show admission, hotel, airfare, and other expenses covered by their employer. I would imagine the same is true for the companies that go to Internext.

I just got off the phone with my casino rep at the Venetian - basic rooms thru them are $5-600 a night, so if you plan on staying at the Venetian & you don't gamble too much, book thru the travel agent (and I fucking hate saying that because I assume AVN is in with them somehow)

Jan 3-9 - my room is held :D

*EDIT*
For those of you that didn't get a copy of the hotel rates, it's attached :)

emmanuelle 2005-08-01 08:50 PM

We've all been where we couldn't really afford it, however it has always been a priority for me. I attended my first show before I opened my first site. It was a great education. While I learn a little less at each subsequent show, the networking and relationship building becomes more important to one's ongoing success.

One word - Travelocity.com - or is that two words? I don't think .com can be considered a word so let's call it 1 word. ;) Judging by the package rates I'm seeing there, I can afford to go as long as I'm not on the strip. Ofcourse, I still need to factor in the badge, hookers, food, hookers, miscellaneous shit, and hookers.

For me, it comes down to is a single question. Is it worth the expense? Everyone says to go for connections and networking, then they say that the show is becoming shit for business. I just want to meet some you silly bastards. It might be cheaper to just stalk you than to attend the show.

Torn Rose 2005-08-01 10:48 PM

Useless, cabs are a big factor that you MUST count on, unless you stay in your hotel.

Trust me, just because it says it's a close walk in no way makes it a close walk, and if you share a cab more then once, count on getting stiffed at least once. I've been in a few limos with 15 to 20 "well known names" and ended up being 1 of 4 people to pay.

Also, if you don’t want to pay the Venetian, I suggest TI since it is “close” and has a walk way to the Venetian, but as pointed out; it is a long ass walk regardless.

I'd love to pay for the Venetian, but I don't think my wife is going to give that kind of money. ;)

BTW, what's the TI? I've never been to Vegas. Never really wanted to go. I'm more of lazy river kind of guy.

Torn Rose 2005-08-01 11:00 PM

use to be Treasure Island, but I think they got rid of the Pirate ship and now call it TI

Torn Rose 2005-08-01 11:03 PM

http://www.treasureisland.com/

madleinx 2005-08-01 11:38 PM

Wow. Sounds crowded...and too rich for my blood. |shocking| Guess it's good that I wasn't planning to go anyway. ;)

Do any of y'all go to the Phoenix show? I've never been to any shows....Are some better than others?

docholly 2005-08-02 12:35 AM

Maybe I should open "Goodhead B & B" that week.. 300 a night and i have 2 spare bedrooms.. and McDonalds is open here 24/7 for breakfast.. |headbang|

Actually the Treasure Island is a good choice for the location..

The monorail has actually operated for the last 6 months so we may be ok on that. Also the new Wynn has opened directly across Spring Mt. from the Sands Expo/Venetian so that will take some of the CES crowd.

If 2006 January is anything like this years, you'll need a boat not a taxi to get down the strip.

SirMoby 2005-08-02 12:44 AM

Sometimes it's better to NOT be within walking distance. A cab will not take you across the street even if it is 3/4 of a mile by walkway and side walk but will take you 4 miles to another hotel. The cab ride is almost faster then the walk as well.

plateman 2005-08-02 12:55 AM

I dont know I may go if I can make more money this fall and maybe find someone to bunk with, I dont mind maybe 100 - 175 a night but fuck 300 plus and I too like to gamble lately... been playing the slots about a hour away out of state..

Greenguy 2005-08-02 07:48 AM

TI is right across the street from the Venetian & there is a nice little walkway over the strip. Harrah's is next door & is an easy walk as well. Anything else is a hike.

emmanuelle 2005-08-02 09:30 AM

Well there is the Imperial Palace at about $50/night, but the corridors smell like urine

Ramster 2005-08-02 10:44 AM

Imperial Palace is next door but yes I heard bad things about it. LOL

AVN is making this show a show for sponsors to go and meet and party together instead of with webmasters. Regular webmasters CANNOT afford to go which is where the money is made for the sponsors. Too bad!!!!!!!!!!

:(

Well I don't want to go there. I don't need anything reminding me of home when I'm in Vegas.

Kenny B! 2005-08-02 11:50 AM

I’m not too happy with the shows being on the same dates, I really enjoyed hitting the CES show after Internext, it made it worth while to stay those couple extra days to check out all the new electronics and gadgets. I don’t expect the folks at AVN to work around my schedule but they have some pretty big exhibitors that buy booth space at both shows, I would imagine it’s going to be pain for them to have 2 booths and rotate their talent between both shows.

I have a feeling this is going to be a sign of things to come. As smaller shows become more predominant the January Internext will be merged with the Adult Entertainment Expo and we’ll have the August show as the “Internet Based” trade show.

As for hotels to stay in while in Vegas I have stayed at quite a few hotels, just to try a new place and see what they have to offer, and they all offer a bed and ugly carpet lol! I recommend staying at TI like everyone else has mentioned, it’s only a few minute walk to the Venetian.

Linkster 2005-08-02 12:12 PM

For those considering Treasure Isle their cheapest room for the same dates is $269 per night for a king bed room for the 4th through the 8th nights - cheaper on other dates

emmanuelle 2005-08-02 12:19 PM

Last year's overlap seemed to work out fine, although Internext lost out on some bigger exhibitors like Wicked who were forced to choose where their booth would be most productive. I did find that since I was attending the trade-only day (the overlapped day) at AEE, that my Internext experience felt rushed.
While I appreciate smaller hotel bills due to a shorter stay; I have mixed feelings about the overlap. There isn't enough time for everything in the condensed version, and our show is going to end up lost in the shuffle since AEE is certainly more profitable for AVN.
Finally, we will end up overwhelmed with consumer types on our floor, diluting the ROI for booth owners; as well as educating far too many surfers about the backend of our industry.

I predict that next year Florida will not be the 2nd largest North American show. People will continue to go to Vegas because it is Vegas but the show will continue to loose webmasters every year.

Other sites like Phoenix that focus on the customer (us) will soon become the big shows that you must attend.

I think your right about that.

Last year it cost me just as much to go to Miami, as it did to go to Vegas. And Miami is no Vegas....
I was not happy with the changes they made to the Miami show. (Plus I was invited elsewhere for the weekend. |thumb )

It will be interesting to hear what the response is from the webmasters who are going.
