Newbies first free site

Hello everyone, another newbie here
doing their first post.

I've made my first free site and would
appreciate some feedback please.

Link List owners, would you list this?

http://www.whosyourfave.com/rb/ang01/index.html

Thanks!

Unless I missed something, looks good to me. Only thing, that might cause a problem, the bigger pic on the galleries with "Rookie Babe" on it, might be seen as a blind link. I am guessing though, the galleries where made by the sponsor?

Looks ok to me, but why do your picture pages have a different background than your index and main page?

skopintsev 2005-08-26 11:44 AM

anytime |thumb

.. just check out my sig

I'm not saying it is, cause I don't know for sure, but using 2 seperate backgrounds for each gallery page gives the impression you downloaded 2 seperate Free Hosted Galleries to use as your own which a lot of linklists will reject.

Might be best to stay with a consistant scheme.

My thoughts exactly. Use the same background throughout the site, get rid of the banner that looks like a thumb and you're good to go. :)

thanks for feedback everyone :)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for making me feel so welcome.
I started out making some galleries for
TGPs so I hadn't really considered the
whole consistency issue with backgrounds
for freesites. I'll rectify that problem
now.

I do like to play around with Photoshop
and Paint Shop Pro so having seen the
site and the colours they used I tried to
find a similar font to create the banner
at the top. The 'smiley' image was
provided by the sponsor.

I have removed the link to sponsor from
the banner that looks like a thumb. I will
take that issue into account when preparing future sites so I'm not
stuck with that same problem.

So here is the updated version....
http://www.whosyourfave.com/rb/ang01/index.html

What do you all think?

Thank you so much for your time and
consideration everyone! :)

Ponygirl

Lemmy 2005-08-26 10:23 PM

Much better. All it needs now is my recip! ;)

caringneo 2005-08-27 11:54 AM

Looks really nice for a first freesite! Well done Blue Max.

Don't forget that on freesites you can use three outgoing links. Make maximum use of it to get more click-throughs.
Feel free to submit to my linklist. I would be happy to list to you.

Presmar 2005-08-28 12:29 AM

spankys 2005-08-29 07:58 PM

I think your site is good after you've fixed background problem. BTW Not Necessary to put 2257 info on each page of the site.
Feel free to submit it to my sig ;)

Blue Max 2005-08-31 10:25 PM

I'd like to say thanks again to everyone
who's given me advice -- ronnie, Fonz, Preacher, ponygirl, Presmar -- and to
all those who have offered to list my
sites -- skopintsev, Surfn, Lemmy, caringneo, spankys, SI. I'll be working
on sending sites your way.

However, I am going to have to take a bit
of a hiatus on the whole site building for
about a month or so -- I have a big paper
due, experiments that need to get underway, and a seminar to
present |scared|

I'll continue stopping by the board here
to keep myself up to date.

You can also submit here when you are ready http://www.sxxxlinks.com/submit.php

Sexvilly 2005-09-03 10:05 AM

asian content and european girls on the banners... not good... it's like brunettes on banners when the site is about a blonde.. got the idea?

Addendum to the above plan, I'll keep

going completely insane |loony| whilst
I plod through my other projects!

Thanks for the 2257 advice SI.
Yup, got it, good point made Sexvilly.
M@rk, I'll add your recip to my next
site.

Cheers

newbie freesite question...

I am trying to put my very own first freesite together, based on the structure that has been suggested, and my question is, I want to have a link on my index.html warning page that goes to the Terms of Use on my actual site (which I might add, I spent a LOT of time writing he he)...

From a freesite point of view, is that a no-no?

Sexvilly 2005-09-08 03:16 PM

why do you need this?

CalModels 2005-09-08 04:02 PM

In my head, two reasons:

1. Another link back to my main site (which I am sure noone except maybe a crawler will actually visit)

2. I spent a lot of time writing it and wanna use it in more than one location

Ofcourse, both these reasons may be a waste of time.. My concern is, if LL owners would see it as a no-no

Preacher 2005-09-08 04:57 PM

Unless it is completely free of advertising or links leading to more advertising, then I would assume most would consider it an outbound link. If you count it as one of those, then you would most likely be Ok.

If it truelly is a 2257 statement with no advertising, then the general feeling is it is fine and not counted. To cover your ass I would just count it anyway.

CalModels 2005-09-08 05:38 PM

Thanks Preacher...

err... stupid question... so that means if the limit is three outbound links, if each page of the freesite has one link back to my main site, I can have two more sponsor banners there? And does the limit on outbound links apply only to main.html, gallery1.html and gallery2.html or does that apply to the index.html as well (which is where I am putting the warning page with three links, one to EXIT, one to ENTER that links to main.html and one to the TOU)

If my freesite is under

http://www.abc.com/freesite/index.html

would a link on the top of each page back to http://www.abc.com be considered an outbound link?

Halfdeck 2005-09-08 06:02 PM

Hey CalModels,

glad to see you're working on your first free site. The limits on outbound links apply on every page of your free site.

Links to domain root (www.abc.com/) isn't always counted as an outbound link by all LL reviewers.

Right, but it is by some, which I learned the hard way, so to maximize your acceptence I'd rather sacrifice one ad link to make sure I was kosher with all LL owners. Right now my LL is just starting up so I'm not too picky either way ;)

And personally I liked having links back to my hub when I was building, it let me control the traffic. Others think it's a waste because if the user is going to be clicking on something, might as well be something you might get paid for.
