WOW! I completely missed this part when I was typing up my rant. Wouldn't you think that the rep would have all the info on my account, including where I was sending traffic from?

A quick look at my referrals would probably show 90% of them coming from the category listings on LOR.

LOL I deal with it everyday. The questions drive me nuts, all the questions are in the FAQ on the site. When I tell them they should have read it. They get nasty. I just say ok well don't worry i dont need you on the site. Have a nice day.

PR_Tom 2006-03-30 12:37 PM

I once was considering surfing a lot of the link list owners sites that post here, and hitting them up via email or ICQ (if I had it) to see if they wanted any suggestions to convert us. Or just to say hi and let them know my contact info. if they had ads for us up.

But then I remembered also seeing a thread where someone was upset that an affiliate rep emailed them after checking out their list. Most everyone replying in the thread was pretty much saying it was spam. So I scrapped that idea pretty quick. |badidea|

RawAlex 2006-03-30 12:50 PM

PR_Tom, I think that if you want to contact an individual webmaster, you need to come to the table with some info, some understanding, and some really good material that will make a difference.

Personal mail should be personal - no stock format, no cut and paste... make the link list owner think you actually checked out their site and made some notes or have some information. Just firing off a form letter is the fastest way to make people feel like nothing.

Now, you might also want to consider looking at your accounts and trying to group them together... link site owners here, TGP owners there, other programs sending exit hits or whatever over there... then you can segment market at least a bit :)

Alex

PR_Tom 2006-03-30 01:09 PM

I guess I was just kind of trying to say that I can see the desire to go ahead and contact people when you're pumped up about something, but also the need to know the audience a little bit more before hand.

I prefer to be more passive anyway to be honest. I'm around at least 9 to 5 and post on several boards etc. so easy enough access.

It's going to be hard to resists ICQ'g GG the next time we release some FHG's now though! hehe |roses|

CaptainObvious 2006-03-30 01:25 PM

You guys ever known somebody who owns more than one site?

I know its hard to believe but some people do have a few sites other than the one in their account.

I was trying to cover all my bases with Green Guy and I got him everything he needed.

Metal Cash didn't send out the generic email because the 123 Program isn't officially launched yet, I'm specifically hitting webmasters that are already part of the program and sending traffic to get first shot at these sites.

Green Guy was rude to me for no reason, so I was rude to him.

Edit for typo

emmanuelle 2006-03-30 01:29 PM

Dude, you're off to a fine start in your new career -lol
There are at least a dozen program owners here who will never, ever consider you in the future to represent their companies.

Note to Metal Cash: This is what happens when you recruit from the zoo.

CaptainObvious 2006-03-30 01:32 PM

You guys don't even read the full story before taking sides with greenguy because its his board.

emmanuelle .. recruited from a zoo? you attack me and I don't even know you so fuck off.

Josh@MetalCash 2006-03-30 01:33 PM

If GreenGuy would have taken a second and been calm and read then he would have obviously seen that Captain said that this program is not released yet and he was hitting up webmasters before the program launched to give them a change to push this program first... for all of you guys that don't understand. That means no affiliate email yet.

If any of you took the time to visit the link that Captain sent him, you would see that it's a list of sites like he has listed currently. After he said "no thanks" to the galleries he offered him paysite links. Please read and look before you post people.

Sheesh, this is turning into GFY.

Dude, look. if you knew much about GG at all you'd known the man is very anti-gallery. he is one of the most outspoken people in the industry about promoting galleries and favors freesites. IT makes you look like you have no clue what you're doing when you approach him on a topic like this.

Its like approaching a christian fundamentalist about getting an abortion for his daughter or a pamela anderson abou buying cheap steak (she's a vegetarian).

we're siding with greenguy because he's synonamous with anti-gallery and pro free site.

if you'd read his board or looked at his major sites or even talked to him first, instead of trying to shove galleries he doesnt want down his throat, you'd ave seen what is an 'obvious" mistake.

You're so clever with the 'obvious' mistake line.

If you would read into it I said if he doesn't like galleries I have actual links for him - I didn't force greenguy to look at galleries, I didn't tell him I have nothing for you but galleries, I asked if he wanted galleries, he said no so I gave him links.

It seems quite 'obvious' that I didn't do anything offensive to him before he said I was as annoying as a fucking telemarketer.

It's 'obvious' that everybody here is going to continue to side with greenguy because its 'obviously' his board.

Rediculous guys.

post 21 was posted as I was typing out my response, josh, so please calm down.

irregardless, read the conversation from back to front.

having some background in the telemarketing industry (i know a guy who did it for a living) its obvious what was going on here

Caller: want to buy _____?
greenguy: nope
caller: standard rebuttal
greenguy: no thanks
caller: second rebuttal.

and so forth. its annoying, bad, telemarketing bullshit. and if the rep was informed at all he'd known that starting off talking about galleries is fucking stupid and makes him look like an ass.

and the worst of it is that the rep becomes beligerant after the third rebuttal. calls greenguy an asshole. its pathetic and stupid and its not a great way to run a company.

the only thing that was "GFY" was the messages being shot towards greenguy:

to continue to fall back on the 'its gg's board so everyone will side with him' argument is ludicrious and it shows the major character flaw that you exhibitied in your original conversation. You dont think you can be wrong.

If you'd stop and think about it you could and can see why greenguy got pissed off and instead of realizing it and apologizing for it you grasp for any reason to continue to believe you were right.

Our galleries rock if you dont want them you're wrong.

I called you an asshole if peole say its unfair its cause its your board.

You think you cant be wrong and its impossible to argue with someoen like that, but let me say that you certainly have little to no place in the customer service field with that kind of attitude.

the customer is always right.
you are always wrong if the customer thinks you are.
greenguy thinks you are.
piss off.

CaptainObvious 2006-03-30 01:53 PM

I've contacted over 400 affiliates in the last few days and not one of them was rude to me like greenguy. I wasn't trying to sell him something, I was telling him about a new program that others can't promote which will make him good cash. 99% of webmasters find that to be a GOOD opportunity, not a chance to tell your account rep that he's annoying like a telemarketer.

You're confused about the situation Boogie. Greenguy signed up for Metal Cash on his own, of course I'm going to contact him to try and help him make more money.

yeah - seems really fucking stupid to go from webmaster to webmaster when you can just send out a newsletter & be done with it

Personally I see something very wrong with that actually, GreenGuy flipping out on Captain instead of reading and seeing that the 123 Program isn't launched yet and Captain is infact going webmaster to webmaster giving them a chance to make cash with this.

well josh, that's your opinion.

and I bet that the idiot who calls my house during dinner to sell me some great money saving oppurtunity has the same fucking opinion.

but if the reciever of the call or the recieiver of the ICQ doesnt want the fucking spam bullshit taking up his time a quick apology from the rep isnt so much to be expected is it?

but instead you folks seem to think its a better idea to call him an asshole.

the guy you were just appealing to to help make you money is now the guy you're screaming at.

and then you still dont see anything wrong with that, then i'm not going to be able to convince you otherwise. have a great day but just realize that most people arent going to see it your way, or the telemarkerters way.

I just signed up to metalcash because no other program in the industry will provide this kind of first class service like posting on message board that they dont need me and calling me an asshole over icq.

:)
