Stuck going to see Paul Simon

For some unknown reason, he is playing at the Baseball Hall of Fame on the 4th of July. Since out of all the people she likes, Paul Simon is my wife's favorite, so I am stuck going. She calls him a musical genius :)

Again, I don't get it but, like a good husband, i will be there. :) I have never seen so many rules about a concert. But I guess since it's at Doubleday Field, they need to protect it a bit.

Jim 2006-06-15 06:49 AM

Just an FYI, after this, I have seen them all. Barbra Streisand, Wayne Newton, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond and even Tony Bennet. I think my wife was born a few years after her time :)

terry 2006-06-15 07:39 AM

Tom Jones... now there's a good one!

Have fun Jim ;)

docholly 2006-06-15 08:01 AM

Actually Paul Simon puts on a good show and musically he is pretty genius.

oh wait..IMHO |jester|

Greenguy 2006-06-15 08:34 AM

Is Elton John or George Michael next? I bet you can't wait for that Culture Club reunion tour |pokefun| |Jim

Jim 2006-06-15 08:43 AM

ehhh, I am far from excited about it. She tried to get me to go see "Fiddler on the Roof" once but a man has to put his foot down sometime :)

Greenguy 2006-06-15 08:45 AM

Just do what I do when these not-so-manly concerts come to town:

"Here's 4 tickets, take 3 friends & have a good time"

The Gay thing would have been seeing Barbra Streisand. Besides me, President Clinton and the old guys dragged there by their wives, I swear every other man was gay :)

Tom Jones was actually good. And there were even women throwing their panties on stage :)

Tony Bennet was sad. He should have done like Streisand and had his lyrics on monitors. He forgot the words to most of his own songs.

I personally would love to see Paul Simon; I’m a huge fan of his. I would also love to see Elton John and Tony Bennet and wouldn’t mind seeing Wayne Newton.

No desire to see Babs...

Shit, Jim that's nothing. Actually Paul Simon isn't that bad. A few years ago I got stuck gotng to a Pat Boone christmas concert. Couldn't get out of it without causing a big argument so I went. Jesus, longest 90 minutes of my life.|shocking|

Paul Simon is here on the 5th for the Jazz fest, the show sold out super fast. We have tix for Tony Bennett on the 30th, but they just rescheduled till Oct 1. The man is 80, I don't know if he will live till Oct.
Also seeing Katie Melua & Matt Dusk during the fest.

I will marry the man who takes me to see Barry though!

Sitting through Pat Boone should have gotten you blown 100 times or more. Even asking a man to sit through that deserve some special favors.

I think Paul Simon would be a great show.

This thread is giving me the urge to fire up my, Best of Simon & Garfunkel collection.

Hello darkness...

SirMoby 2006-06-16 02:58 PM

I actually has Rhythm of the Saints on the other night during a neighborhood cookout.

dareutwo 2006-06-16 03:56 PM

GG- Elton John puts on a hell of show, but Wham and Culture Club have nothing in common except a gay front man. :)

Personally, I wouldn't care if he showed up with just him and a guitar.

pvtspanky 2006-06-16 11:22 PM

I was pissing in a public urinal at a bar a couple years ago. I noticed a couple of large men walk in, out of the corner of my eye, and check out the bathroom. I thought it was kind of strange. Then, one of the dudes holds the door open and this little dude is standing at the urinal next to me, taking a piss. I finish up and realize that it's Paul Simon. I don't care, but, the bodyguards were looking at me like I was about to do something. So, I pissed next to him. Werd.

Probably would be a decent show.

Be prepaired. I heard last week she got over her stage fright and is doing one last tour again. I had no idea she had stage fright but from what the show said she has not really performed live in over 10 years. Her fans must be jumping threw the roof. Yeah Barbra is comming to town, BARBRA!!!! Oh my gosh!!

ecchi 2006-06-21 10:57 PM

Ever notice how many of his old songs were about suicide. But he cheated us, he is still alive.

We just received notice from the MGM yesterday that there was a class action law suit against her. We paid $2500/ticket to see her in Vegas for her "final" show, December 31st, 1999. And being the Millennium switching over, the rooms were also $2500/night for 2 nights. According to the MGM, if we get on board, we will be seeking all $10k based on her fraudulent advertising of it being her very last show. I think I might do it just because I can't stand her. And I think once it gets out, she will pay for us to just go away.

WOW Cher must have lawsuits out the ass then..no wonder she keeps coming back.

Jim 2006-06-22 10:02 AM

I don't think it was such a big thing for Cher. I mean, the only reason I finally broke down and paid $2500/ticket was my wife believed that the show we saw was going to be the last and only time she could see her. And a lot of people thought the same thing. I want to hope that Bill Clinton as President didn't follow her around the country to see her. :)

That night, they actually locked the doors of the MGM about an hour before the concert and kept them locked until Clinton left.

Funny story, I was looking for the showroom and walked up to a couple of guys that I thought worked for the Hotel. When I got about 10 feet from them, they pulled out their guns. They told me they were not employees and asked me to step away but I still asked them where the showroom was :) About 30 seconds later, Bill Clinton walked by and I quickly learned that the guys were Secret Service :) And talk about concert security...damn. After the metal detectors we were all searched by guys that were not your average fat guys wearing concert teeshirts that you usually see. :)

So you paid $10,000 for two concert tickets? Bloody hell I wouldn't pay that for front row seats at the second coming!
