Happy Monday Morning

Who'd a thunk it? 22,000 homes without power in Central New York and no problems here :) Plenty of snow and plenty more still coming down but our fingers are crossed for power.

I still can't believe I have to pull out the snowblower again.

lorsha 2007-04-16 07:25 AM

Wow, what a wild weekend it was! Have a great day all. |waves|

Simon 2007-04-16 07:28 AM

Good morning world |waves|

I think it got down to the high 50s (F) overnight here. We never got the big rainstorms, just some rain yesterday. But this morning the wind is absolutley howling outside, and at 67F, it's pretty chilly for April here. So I have to decide between leaving the windows and doors on the Jeep or stripping them off and digging out a sweater for the ride down to KW today. No rain on the forecast, so I think they're coming off.

A good start of the week to all.

:)

FanTC 2007-04-16 07:56 AM

Good Morning Y'all!

Dealing with the bank today.. one way or another.

I'm not cooking today, so it's Iced Tea and a joint for breakfast. Pour a cup and roll your own.

Have as good a day as you possibly can.

Everyone with good weather can blow me :) In the past hour I have heard and watched 2 large tree branches break. One of them just missed a big power line.

Licker4U 2007-04-16 08:21 AM

Forecast high for today is 73 and sunny. Might have to see if the crabs are hungry. I'm ready for some crab cakes :D

Since Greenie suggested a month ago to build 2-3 sites/day, submit one and put the others in a submit list for next month and the next, etc. I spend an hour submitting now and don't have much else to do :D |bananna| |roses|

Good Morning Everyone!

The snow has stopped falling, wasnt as bad as expected but still many without power - happily, I am not one of them. The rain is coming down pretty hard right now so Im keeping my fingers crossed. Put away all the summer stuff yesterday and got the snowblower ready... I think that will be the last time we need to use it. Weather report for the next two weeks is showing some pretty high numbers for the Montreal area.

Stay dry and have a great day!

Greenguy 2007-04-16 08:52 AM

Good Monday Peoples |waves|

Very little snow here - but we do have a lot of rain (which sucks, as I wanted to blow Jim)

Spent the 1st half of yesterday watching hockey & the 2nd half watching the 1st 4 episodes of The Riches.

Of course, I did no work over the weekend which means I have a pile of shit to do today before the Sabres game tonight |thumb

When I was a kid, we had a day off from school because of snow at the end of May :) Other than that, I think the last big spring snow storm was in March of 98.

ponygirl 2007-04-16 09:02 AM

good morning everyone |waves|

no snow here, but it's cold and very very windy. Seems more like Feb than the middle of April |angry|

finished up a big job this weekend (well kinda anyway) so I'm going to catch up on everything else today.

hope everone has a great day!
:)

MrMaryLou 2007-04-16 09:13 AM

Good Morning All :)

sue-fl 2007-04-16 09:36 AM

Morning!

Speaking of snow I remember snow in April in Maine and even some in May some years. This is why as soon as I turned 18 I headed for Florida and never looked back |thumb

I hope to get some work done today if I can stay out of the the puppy bed long enough to do any.

Have a great Monday all |thumb

Ramster 2007-04-16 09:41 AM

Good Morning from Atlanta :)

What a great weekend of golf though it was cold and windy yesterday. I shot 79 on Saturday equaling my best round ever (on a damn hard course too) and that after shooting 93 on the same course the day before, LOL. Hanging around here today then I think I'm going out with Jace tonight before flying home tomorrow.

In reference to Sue's sig: Sue, I'll accept that Imus is an asshole, if you accept that Al Sharpton is a racist asshole who was directly involved with writing the word Niger (they mispelled it) on a nude teenage black girl with dog shit and falsely accusing a white man of r*ping her. And, even after being successfully sued, Sharpton publicly refused to pay the man, whose reputation he destroyed in order to create anti-white hysteria. To this day, Sharpton has not paid a single cent of that legal settlement. Sharpton has done nothing but increase the racial divide.

Imus called some rough-looking hoopster chicks "nappy headed hoes." Big fucking deal.

Kill whitey. |catfight|

Mr Exotic 2007-04-16 09:56 AM

Just a full day of work planned. Weather is gonna be warming up little by little has the week goes along and they are saying 70's by next weekend.

Just like yesterday it's 30°C/86°F today. That's warmer than most summer days we have over here.

Just got back from the unemployment office, strange people there... A really hot chick started crying at the front desk and stuff like that .I should have comforted her :D

Oh yeah, and I'm wearing my chopscash/superbowl party T-shirt today.

Cleo 2007-04-16 10:24 AM

It looks kind of windy outside but the sky is blue and it's looking to be a beautiful day otherwise.

After a weekend of way too much partying it's a back to work Monday.

Hi UW I can't stand Al Sharpton either!

Sorry but calling those girls on the basketball team what he did is wrong and uncalled for in my opinion. These are honor students and had just won the championship. They surely did not deserve to be called that. As you can see I did not call Imus a racist I called him an asshole because I feel he is! You mean to tell me by looking at those girls he could come to the conclusion that they are what he called them? What if your daughter was on that team? Race has nothing to do with it he insulted them pure and simple and did it on the air so millions heard it. If he wanted to call them that why didn't he do it off air? Why? Because he is an ASSHOLE.

He's a humorist. A funny DJ. A little dry for my taste, but that's what he is. In comparison to the other womens team he had on the screen, the Rutgers girls were a bunch of nappy headed hoes. It was a quick, semi-humorous remark. But a few overly-sensitive people want to make it sound so much worse than what it was. And what is so grand about winning at basketball? What's the great accomplishment? Ew, gee, they can get a ball through a hoop! ;) Hell, it's womens college basketball - I'm still shocked that ANYONE was watching them play, let alone Imus.

I don't see the justification for dragging the man through the media gauntlet over a quick remark which was so obviously not intended to be what everyone is claiming it to be. The censorship in this country is out of hand and it's propelled by sound bite-addicted boob tube zombies.

Cleo 2007-04-16 11:07 AM

I personally couldn't stand Imas but for him to get thrown off the air for making this off color, no pun intended, remark I personally find outrageous and that we have lost our sense of humor and tolerance for personally opinions.

For what it's worth, after a weekend of hard partying, I look like a nappy headed old hoe this morning.

I don't understand how you can live 20 minutes across the city, and have weather from another time zone |crazy|

My power was out from 4:30-10:30 and it's freezing in here. The storm knocked out my dish last night 10 minutes into the Sopranos and has gotten steadily worse. Alternating between rain & snow, once the temp dips a bit it becomes an ice storm.
Fortunately without power, none of my telephones work :-)

Continuing the code rewrite today and should be finished this week allowing me to move on to the next phase. Other than that, a fun-filled day-o-coding today.

It was odd to feel the temperature drop from 84F yesterday to 70F before going to bed, and waking up with the temperature at 55F. Global warming?!? :)

Tommy 2007-04-16 11:39 AM

these storms always pussy out when it gets to long island

i was ready for some good weather
flash lights in every room
generator ready
lanterns charged

spent the day staring out the window but nothing happened :-(

Halfdeck 2007-04-16 12:10 PM

Morning guys,

Well the storm blew off a good part of my wooden fense last night.

Speaking of fenses, there's racism on both sides of the fense. Blacks gets to call the rest of the country all kinds of names and get away with it, while Imus gets canned for one remark. No race is more racist than another - it boils down to balance of power.

Now I don't buy the "this country is getting too PC" angle either Useless. If some newbie mouthed off to one of your friends in a thread, you're not going to just let it slide. You'll stand up for your friend and make the newbie pay (no offense to newbies, I consider myself a newb). That's all that's happening. Imus called these girls a name, and people are standing up to defend them.

Come on UW it is an accomplishment to win a basket ball championship, and to be an honor student at a University. That means they worked hard and they are smart they should be proud.

This wasn't just one quick remark either on Imus's part. He has been crossing the line for years with his remarks. I think his last remark was just the icing on the cake. I'm glad he got fired and think he deserved it.

I guess I'm one of those overly sensitive people because it really bothered me. I really felt bad for those girls and felt the need to defend them in my own way. So I did in my sig |thumb

Cleo 2007-04-16 12:57 PM

Seems to me that if we all get any more uptight politically correct we'll start shitting diamonds.

Don't agree with what Imas said, I personally don't, don't fire the man for speaking his mind but do voice your opinion.

Dialog ends when you kill the messenger.

Of course I would defend a friend, but I WOULD NOT ask the board to fucking ban him. That's the difference here. Those dumb little sluts and their ignorant cross-toting reverend flunkies have all the right in the world to bitch and moan about being offended. BUTTTTTTTT - I consider it an attack against free speech for them to work aggressively to rid him of the airways. That's their way of saying that he has no right to HIS FREE SPEECH.

To paraphrase Anthony of O&A, if we all agreed, if we all spoke in an unoffensive manner, there'd be no point to the First Amendment. It wouldn't be necessary. However, we recognize that we will not always agree and we should, therefore, have legally protected free speech.

Why would I think that a handful of pornographers would understand the necessity of free speech? :D

Uh oh. Now Sue is going to call this board's advertisers and ask them to no longer support anyone who allows my offensive, yet free speech. Then GG&Jim will be forced to ban in order to gain back their advertisers.

Get the point?

Those who don't believe in a slippery slope are often found on their ass at the bottom of the hill.

Free market at its finest. |thumb

Sure fire him if he isn't bringing in the bucks.

But he was fired for his remarks. It was after the fact that his advertisers said they were dropping him and not all his advertisers said they were dropping him.

Like I said, I don't agree with what he said and I don't even like the guy or listened to him but when someone is outed for speaking their mind I personally think we are going down a very dark path.

Jim 2007-04-16 01:15 PM

They claim he was fired for his remarks. And Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are happy to agree with that. But, who knows how different it would have been if the advertisers kept quiet and kept paying?

And I do agree with you. Censorship sucks. But like most say, he had the right to say what he said and the public had the right to not buy from the advertisers and the advertisers had the right to stop advertising.

I think hidden deep in this outrage, it was all just a business decision.

digifan 2007-04-16 02:33 PM

It is summer here, 30 C like at Fonz.... I was resting and taking naps all Sunday, with windows open in each and every room, yum... sis told me the smell of the trees and bushes and plants in flowers is magical, all I felt was allergy lol. The weather is still wonderful. But hey, we were heating last June so anything can happen.

Have a great whatever, I am downloading a dvd in 26 parts for hours and have to restart my mini mac often because the host doesn't like me. But I have a dynamic ip. |waves|

Peace.

docholly 2007-04-16 02:35 PM

Morning.. and it still is here in the Land of the Lost.

We had massive Rain here this moring then suddenly at 730am.. it all went away and the sun shone. go figure...

I'm hanging around a bunch-o-broadcasters .. tho i printed some of GG's blog rants on the lack of HD content and put them in various boxes in the Press room.. Hopefully they will take heed.

Of course the Buzz is all about 1st Amendment rights.. Imus etc..

...and I can just say there is really only one group that across the board it is still OK to make fun of, both publically and privately .. and that's Phat People. Guess we need an "Al Sharpton" to be our advocate.

Have a good one..it's back to roaming the halls... |waves|

I'm from Canada. What the hell does "nappy headed" mean, and why is it so offensive |huh
I'd honestly never heard the term before all of this.

Jim 2007-04-16 03:18 PM

Nappy Headed is someone with kinky or frizzy hair. The racism of the term goes way back in America.

It seems kind of strange to have this discussion in a good morning thread :)

Jim 2007-04-16 03:27 PM

As for the free speach aspect of it. There is no free speech on a corporate or privately owned radio or TV station. Just like any message board.

I could see the free speech issue coming up if Imus was at a public KKK get together and said what he said. But he was on a corporate owned radio station and a corporate owned tv station. Like I said, just business.
