Bloggers - Why don't we trade traffic?

I'm serious, I want to know if you would be interested in doing some traffic trading. I'm not talking about TGP style traffic trades, I'm talking doing something with no skim.

If your not interested, I'd like to know why.

If you are what do you think the best way to do it would be? A script which counts hits and ensures a 1:1 ratio or a friends type top list in an advantagous place in your side bar.

Or is there another method that you think would work and be a fair trading syste.

T Pat 2008-01-09 02:17 PM

I actually put some thought into this Walrus :D
the way I see it is without a script to make things equal the newer the blog the more advantageous trading would be.
A well established blog is going to produce more traffic and then there's also PR to think about |huh
One last thing that comes to mind is the fuckme factor, I'm sure you can trust the regular board members to not do anything shady, but what if a newcomer comes along, without a script to monitor the trades you would have to pass on trading with anyone you don't know

I like the friends type toplist idea. That should be able to give our blogs a bit of a boost.

Im in as soon as I get mine tweaked and ready. Ill definitely bookmark this post and get at it. Its # 2 on my project list and #1 is about 75% done so I need a week maybe 2.

Since I'm leaning towards doing a top list style traffic trade, let me run through my way of thinking.

First traffic trades would have nothing to do with SE's or PR. You'd still want to setup some hard link exchanges for that, or even a linking system through your blog network.

I'd setup a preferable area in my sidebar for the trades. A place that would get noticed with a title to interest surfers looking to leave my site.

With LO, as I'm sure you know, you can have multiple templates. I'd have one that just displayed the top 10 links. Those links would be displayed in the preferable area of the sidebar.

This could be modified dependant on the number of traders and I'd adjust it to try to get the most traffic. In other words, if I found I got more traffic by displaying 15 links, I'd do that.

The rest of those that signed up would end up on a page so a small amount of traffic would eventually filter through to them.

So even a guy with a new site could sign up to trade, he would probably get the short end of the stick until he was able to send enough hits to make the front page.

In the new blog instance, he would be better served by working on SE's and hard links to start for the first few months and then look at trading traffic.

If you use a decent top list script instead of LO, the same applies.

Most half way decent top list scripts can detect the spam bots and what not so that might only be an issue if you do try to use something link LO.

Hey I'm starting to really warm up to this |thumb
I'll squeeze out a little time in the nest few days and download aardvarktopsites/ it looks like a good Free top list script and play with it. Think using a free script would get better results than everyone having to buy LO |huh

walrus 2008-01-09 08:12 PM

Now to convince more people...although 4 is a start.

ganjaman 2008-01-10 01:32 PM

Id like to get in on this too if i may, ive been doing somthing similar on all my blogs, i only use a script for the toplist function, no skim set or anything like that, and place the toplist near the top of the side bar, also use the script to place the top 4 or 5 sites at the end of each post, the idea was that since its the site name thats listed people know exactly where they are going to and hopefully would be more productive, the main downside i have found though, is that since it is only clicked traffic, theres isnt lots of it, and a lot of people simply delete you out of their script without any notice.

Id definately like to trade with some others that are after doing the same sort of thing though, and will keep the links up regardless of the amount of traffic sent

ArtWilliams 2008-01-10 01:46 PM

I'm in.

ronnie 2008-01-10 05:12 PM

I like the top list style myself, with a script. Think it would be the fairest way to go.

Lemmy 2008-01-10 05:48 PM

I'd be interested.

SirMoby 2008-01-13 10:26 AM

OK. I'm game. What's the best script?

I'm leaning towards LO for this, because I can manage all the trades from one location.
I installed aardvarktopsites yesterday, it's an easy install, very nice top site script and it's free.
Making a template to fit would be easy, the downside I see with using it for Walrus's brain storm is if you have a bunch of blogs you would have a separate install and admin for each.

I'm going to use Aardvark on FeedEZ instead of LO and will make a toplist skin while I'm at it for those that want to join in but don't want to buy LO

SirMoby 2008-01-13 12:06 PM

LO does rock. I have it on two servers running both mainstream and adult trades.

LD 2008-01-13 10:55 PM

Sounds interesting.

Ms Naughty 2008-01-14 02:09 AM

Walrus, I'm interested but I'm neglecting my blogs at bit at the moment because it's summer here so there's a fair bit of laziness and travelling going on - I'm doing work for FTG but that's about it.

Maybe in Feb I'll be able to get back to this.

walrus 2008-01-14 01:25 PM

I've got a top 10 list on all of my blogs. I have from day one. You can check out my offerings here

I still need to play with my positioning on some of my blogs as I originally set it up more as a bonus for those that actually sent me traffic via hard links as opposed to actually wanting to push traffic in a direction but I'll do that sometime this week.

Most of the babes stuff is new but the others have been around awhile.

For those that are interested I am using Link Organizer.

papagmp 2008-01-14 03:03 PM

I'm in - starting to get good SE on one of mine and the others are catching up. God I love adding things to my to-do list.......

Sexee 2008-01-17 04:02 PM

Seems like a good idea, I'm surprised this hasn't come up before now.

Paul7 2008-01-18 04:22 AM

Blogs are just one piece of the big pie. You cannot make enough money just with blogs. DO SEO or anything small beside that.

Schpork 2008-01-18 05:08 AM

1. This thread isnt about what you need to make money, this forum is about blogging, if you dont wanna blog dont come here.
2. if you dont add anything of value to the thread why even post?

weird

anyway, on-topic: pm me for a toplist trade, setting up the script this afternoon.

Paul7 2008-01-18 06:03 AM

I'm a blogger myself just saying that it's not enough to make just blogs. You must create your own traffic source to have sales.

I understand your point, I just don't understand what the fuck it has to do with this thread.

There are many ways to create traffic. One of the ones available that most bloggers aren't taking advantage of is what this thread is about.

ronnie 2008-01-18 03:12 PM

I wasn't going to say it..:)

Seems to be building post count I guess.

webpimp 2008-01-19 01:32 PM

I use toplists on several of my blogs to trade traffic. I use the xclicks.net script or the ereferrer script. With xclicks you can control the listings and only add "friends". Ereferrer is the opposite: it shows all sources of traffic except ones you filter out.

por ejemplo,
with xclicks script: http://deepthroatbj.thumblogger.com
Webmasters have to sign up and get approved or admin adds them.

with ereferrer: http://penismaster.thumblogger.com
I allow everything to show except filter out my own preview hits from the thumblogger control panel.

Both are remote hosted scripts that generate the toplist. I haven't come across a script I can install on my own server that will allow me to create toplists across multiple blogs.

Hey webpimp, would you please explain to me why you don't build your blogs on there own domain, that link to AFF at the top of all your blogs that isn't yours seems like a hefty price to pay for free hosted blogs|huh

Yeah, it's the price I pay for the ease of use. I can manage all my TB blogs from a single control panel and it's easier for me to use then wordpress or others. I also have a few other blogs on my own hosting with plans for more. TB is just one neighborhood in the eventual empire.

Hankphone 2008-02-12 10:45 PM

I'm interested

I'm in, trading traffic seems like a no brainer really. Been looking for a good script to do this and have been leaning toward just having something custom made on renta-coder. If you guys would be interested in that we could just pool the ideas and create a feature list and post it under my account and see how much the bids are, see if it's worth it to us.

As far as I'm concerned this is all about traffic so any blog hand written or RSS fed should be able to participate.

As far as where it's gone, I've been waiting for some folks to start posting signup URL's

Sign up URL's to top lists? maybe I lost track of the grand plan ;)

Maria 2008-02-29 06:54 AM

Using LO here. I really like the script and I like your idea. Count me in ;-)

by the way, this is my linktrade page. I am just starting with the blogging but am open for any trade, as long as it fits the niche.
