New To Blogging

My link list Girls That Squirt has some link trades with a few blogs that send a lot of traffic so I figured I would jump on the blog bandwagon and have my own. Some questions:
1. Should I get a new domain for the blog or would it be OK to use http://www.girls-that-squirt.com/blog?
2. Is WordPress the easiest/best to use?

balls_deep 2008-02-26 12:28 PM

Getting a unique domain will depend of weather you are going to start a real blog or just a splog.

Id put a real blog on its own domain, and splogs id just organize into folders.

wordpress is very powerful and easy to use, another option is Joomla which is a little more diverse but a little harder to get the hang of. I would stick with wordpress.

I don't think there are any real blogs run by porn webmasters. We put links to a sponsor in there along with the posts and that's the spam. We call it advertising...I'll look into names that are available for a squirting blog and maybe get another domain.

walrus 2008-02-26 12:59 PM

Personally, I'd put it in a folder or a sub-directory off of your link list and I'd more than likely just do it as a folder.

That way you add a lot of related depth to you LL and hopefully both will benefit from all your hard SE work.

That's what I'm aiming for, only squirting :D

Not that many anyway. :D

I don't think a few ads here and there disqualifies a blog from beaing "real", but if your blog primarily exists to attract surfers to click on your links/ads it's a splog, no matter how well written it is. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't have much experience with software other than WP and I don't see how you can go wrong. I've also played around a tad with Joomla. If you have no plans of ever going beyond basic blogging it's probably overkill, but if you down the road plan on expanding you certainly have more options.

WRT domains/folders I have no idea what might be best. Domains come cheap and you should probably be buying some anyway (you know, expanding your empire and all that). Why not install a blog in a sub-folder on your squirting LL to play around with just to see if it's something you want to do. Just remember that a quality blog (real or splog) will take up quite a bit of your time.

Licker4U 2008-02-26 01:39 PM

Well, I knew it wouldn't be easy. I got WP and I'm supposed to open wp-config-sample.php and fillin my database connection details. WTF?|huh

Lemmy 2008-02-26 02:00 PM

You need to create the DB with your host first, then fill in the DB name, user, PW and host.

Have you set up a mysql database on your server before, or installed a script? The first one is always a little confusing, but it's really easy. Your hosting service will probably install it for you, but it's a good thing to know how to do.

Licker4U 2008-02-26 02:26 PM

I sent a ticket to my host telling them what I want to do and what folder I want the blog in. I'm sure they'll get it handled.

Huh? How does that matter? You can put a blog or a splog anywhere you want.

If you want the best chance of a blog doing well, get a domain for it and put the blog on the index of the domain. and make sure to use the latest version of wordpress. Plus give it a few months to get going.

As far as a real blog or not, seems that is more up to the surfer. I have blogs that have ads all over and in most every post, but many surfers think it's a real person blogging, or a real blog..:)

Licker4U 2008-02-26 03:28 PM

Damn, my host has it all set up but I threw them a curve, I got a domain for the blog so now they have to move the info to the new domain :D

Probably not. All they needed to do was set up a database for you. If all your domains including a new one are on the same account, you can access the database from any domain.

That's how it's worked for my last couple hosts, can't say 100% for yours. If it's "localhost" for the database host/server, then you should be set, just need the DB name, user name and password.

Give you time to upload wordpress. Make sure to go to wordpress if you haven't already and get the latest. Last I saw it was 2.3.3

I notice a lot of people using subdomains for blogs. Someone in another forum was claiming Google seemed to like subs at least as well as the main domain.

Maybe some do well, never worked as well for me. Comparing sub domain blogs against index based blogs. Just my experience.

Porn Blog

I sure doesn't look like porn blog to me. I looks like regular websit. I sure would like know I could get one like done. Was it costly to set it up. I am not a webmaster and not very good with the techy stuff.

Thanks,

Franko

Actually, the blogs I get the most traffic on are the ones that I piggy backed with one of my blog directories.

Domain Registration $10.00 per year
Hosting: $15-20 a month
Wordpress - Free
Templates - Free or Paid
Plugins - Free

But before you do any of it, I highly suggest you read multiple topics here in the forum. There are some basic how-to info as well as some more advanced.

Like I said, from my experience, guess millage will vary..:)

Just what I've seen from my blogs, comparing index placed blogs and sub directory blogs.

NY Jester 2008-02-26 10:42 PM

Just like Licker, I just picked up blogging..work on it soem each day..so I get the hang of it. Ive learbed alot form this forum, ronnie, t pat, walrus, art, LD, have all had a lot of great things to say/teach/advise/share/bounce ideas off..that type of thing is priceless

Licker4U 2008-02-27 07:32 AM

OK, I put the database name, username and password in the wp-config-sample.php file and saved it as wp-config.php per the ReadMe instructions. I uploaded everything to the public_html folder on a new domain. Now I'm supposed to open /wp-admin/install.php in my browser but when I double click it it opens in Notepad. I copy and paste it into my browser and I get an error message:

This program cannot display the webpage

There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

FanTC 2008-02-27 07:36 AM

Sounds like the domain isn't fully propogated

You have to type in the URL to the /wp-admin/install.php file in your browser eg. http://www.yourdomain.com/folder-whe...in/install.php

/wp-admin/install.php is supposed to set up the tables for the blog. The new domain's URL is Girl Squirts but there's no index page...|huh

Lemmy 2008-02-27 07:48 AM

Licker, your install file is up and ready for your input (I just checked). Now hurry up and set it up before you're hacked. :D

I logged in with admin as the username and the password WP gave me, wrote a title and post, hit "Publish" and nothing. WTF?|huh

Lemmy 2008-02-27 08:04 AM

Try deleting the placeholder index.html from your host. It overrides http://www.girl-squirts.com/index.php

FanTC 2008-02-27 08:05 AM

path set wrong? oh shit.. go in and rename the "index.html" in there to "indexold.html". I bet that's it

Hot damn! That was it!

OK, over on the right of the page is "Blogroll" with links under it. How do I get rid of those?

Simon 2008-02-27 08:27 AM

Are you opening the version on the server or on your local drive?

Update at 8:33am : Nevermind.

:D

T Pat 2008-02-27 08:30 AM

found a wordpress check list for you Licker
I want to weigh in on domain vs sub domain vs folder, I have blogs setup all three ways and I don't think it makes any difference to the Search Engines how your blog is set up, the blogs you put the most effort into will be the blogs that get the most traffic

On the server, the one online

Cool :)

I wasn't sure from your post #24 but I see you've got it sorted now.

You can't. It would be a violation of WP's licensing terms and your blog would self-destruct.

Seriously, now it's time for you to read the documentation and play around in the admin panel. Most of it is pretty self-explanatory.

The first things I would do is delete the install file if you haven't done so already and change the permalink structure (hint: options -> permalinks). Anything is better than the default.

Congrats on your new blog and welcome to the dark side. |thumb

ronnie 2008-02-27 08:46 AM

My head is getting foggy, I'm going back to bed for a while and try to digest things....|yawn|
