what program do you use to create your galleries
So what programs does everyone use to create there galleries?
Is there any free software? Also, do most of you compress the images down that you get from sponsors, or do you not mess with that? |
I use Photoshop to do most of my work..but there are several free thumbnail programs aswell as croppng programs
|
I use my html editor and photoshop. That's about it. And I do resize the pics I get from sponsors.
|
I use ThumbsPlus to build galleries and Paint Shop Pro to make them look like I want them. I use another program (Xat Image Optimizer) to optimize all graphics.
|
• Dreamweaver to build my gallery templates
• Arles for initial thumb cropping • Paint Shop Pro for graphic headers, custom thumbs, etc. |
ok thanks for the help guys.
Could someone check and see if my site is loading slow on your end? The url is www.briansbitches.com I am using dreamhost, but it seems a little slow. |
Loads okay here. Not ultra-fast, but definately not slow.
:) |
Ok good. it was pretty slow last night, seems to be a bit better.
While looking, do you see anything that needs to fixed asap? Should my header be a bit smaller? Thanks guys, hopefully I'll be here for a long time to come ;) |
Notetab for the html code.
Arles for initial thumb/image sizing. irfanview for specialty cropping. All are free. |
I use Coffee Cup Editor for html code which cost about 50 bucks. It also has a WYSWYG(what you see what you get) or visual editor on it, although I rarely use that part. Microsoft photo editor and windows movie maker, which came free on my computer, for compressing pics and movies. Cheap, but it does the trick!
|
If you're looking for free software then try www.gimp.org (image editing) and www.kompozer.net (html editing). They are both free and in "free speech" and "free beer".
|
Arles ROCKS! I use AceHTML for all my hand coding, and using their codes (arles) to embed thumbs, I create templates using AceHTML.
I use photoshop CS for any graphics, headers, banners, etc. Then I put the pics in a folder, define the crop if I need to, then hit the all button, and the gallery is done. Nice thing is I now have a lot of templates to choose from, and I usually build a new template every day or so to add to the portfolio. :D |

redcherry, from what you have said, this sounds perfect for me. I'm going to look into this for sure, thanks. |
Thumbs plus and Fastone Image viewer for cropping (its Free )

harminoff, Dreamhost was having some issues with moving a few servers around because of overload..if you login chekc network status and see if there are any notices about it. Ive seen most of the "outages" fixed within an hour of them happening

It's been down sense day 1, and still kind of is. I hope they resolve it soon, I don't want to try and find another host already, just sucks that I can't even work on getting it updated before launch day. |

arles is user friendly and photoshop is the unbeatable software for designs.
|
LD and JD, are you using the professional version of XAT image optimizer?
Right now, I use Arles more than anything else. It really packs a lot into a low priced application. Works very nice for screenshots, too. |
harminoff, that does suck..could you request that your site be moved to a new server?
|
arles here and dw for the details
|
OS: Ubuntu Linux (Free) |headbang|
HTML: Kompozer (Free) ... sometimes DW Graphics: Gimp (Free) ... sometimes PS Image Stuff: Imagemagik (Free) I only find certain sponsors have content that I need to compress, most is just fine though. |

I still write all code by hand. I've used BBEdit on the Mac platform since it was introduced back around '93. Probably similar to Notepad on Windows. Basically a text editor optimized for coding. In html or whatever you want to write.
I like being able look at a webpage and see in my mind how it could be put together with various kinds of coding (tables vs css for example). I think something is being lost by those who only let programs create their code for them and don't at least also write some code by hand. A good text editor may also offer things like text clippings, grep pattern matching, search and replace across multiple files, ftp/sftp transfers, syntax coloring for numerous source code languages, and some coding tools. It just won't write the code for you, and it won't mess with the code you write. |
