Subdomains
Ok, I have a curiousity...if I build a bunch of subdomains for different niches so that if say someone wants to go to the gay section of my site it goes to gay.domain.com...will this hurt me with google? And would it hurt me if I submit the subdomains to google?
Thanks!!! |
I don't know about Google but many link lists do not like sub domains.
I never use them I just use sub folders. |
Yeah I'm not using them for LL...just internal things to my hub
|
before the last big google update this type of site dominated the search terms that I follow. now you cant find one in the top 100.
|
Overuse of subdomains eg: for single 3-4 pages sites can be seen as domain spamming by google.
..and despite what some people might tell you it does not count as "another domain" Use them only if you have a valid reason. DD |
Go UT!
Monkey,
Gotta love Texas! Used to live there in the 70's, in the heart of the University. KLBJ was the rock station of choice then, is it still around? Here's a little guide from Google themsleves - pretty helpful if you ask me: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html One highlighted item though: Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content. . There is a need to interpret the statements here. Don't create doesn't mean don't do it at all - jsut if you are going to do it, make sure it is not "with substantially duplicate" content. Inotherwords, a subdomain should stand on it's own in terms of content and should not mimic any other part of your main site or upper domain. If you create the subdomains, and your site is already listed with Google, there more and likely is no need to go through the painstaking task of resubmitting your subdomains with them. The page goes on to say, just build a heirarchy of the site that is easily navigatible by the spider as well as your visitors. This is to say, just make sure your links jump from one center of attention to the other with relative ease and that their spider can follow it without hitting many dead links. As far as the 100 links rule/guide goes, well it doesn't seem to matter much to Google where LL's are concerned. It then proceeds to discuss a site map. It can be on any page really, but if you have a page already listed with them and you do not have the links to the entire site on it, then build a site map page and link to it or if the site map is small, add it to the page(s) you already have listed with Google. But that is my interpretation of it and honestly, you have to do the reading and interpreting for yourself, then make your final decision. Nick P.S. Edited: There seems to be a quite movement going on with SE's and how they favor subdomains - many hosts are now offering unlimited subs, as a basic/standard part of their hosting packages lately - something to keep an eye on. |
The Monkey - recommend you follow DDaves advice. As far as the WM guidelines at Google - you can read them and read them again - but don't try to interpret them as has been done here :)
|
Here we go again.
Did I hear anyone say linkster?
Here we are one more time putting up with someone who thinks they "know it all". Tell ya a little about "know it alls" in the end they fail and fail miserably. Why? Cause they think they know so much they can't learn no-more. Monkey, my apologies for coming in here and giving you some half way decent pointers. Then having some "goof" come in and blow your thread. Nick P.S. Instead of some people waking up in the morning and brushing thier teeth, they wake up shove their finger up their ass and get their mornings breakfast. Interpret that asshole! |
Wow creamxtreme we are so lucky to have someone like you that is such an expert on SEs to come here and give out advice for free. |bullshit|
You may think that some of us wake up and stick our fingers up our assholes but at least we are not just one big asshole like you. Here is some advice from me to you, just go away. |
creamxtreme - opinions are like assholes - everyone has one & everyone thinks everyone elses stinks.
Personally, I think you are just a plain old ASSHOLE & wish you'd follow up on your "Good Bye Board" post & fuck off for the rest of your life. |
And Ya Didn't Think I Wouldn't Go...

Next, you can expect this sort of reply from members, but the owner of the board. Whoa! Well, I can only hope others see how much of a genuinely kind and gentle guy you are. That they would really love to hook up with you, make large loot and support your greatness. It's been a pleasure meeting you and your "kiss-asses". Let me make a mental note of how much I would love to be a part of this crew. Okay done. What a life, what are we going to do with it? Hmmmm! I think I'll live it! And live it well. Nick |waves
Good morning :) thought I would just follow up with a little advice - you might go out and read some of the articles I've written over the years and that might help "a little" towards getting that clue you so desperately ask for in your sig line on your posts.
To come to a board where everyone gives so much good advice based on years of solid experiences, and sound off with poor advice based on your inexperience, occasionally will draw the attention of the senior moderators on this board. Your advice on SE's is incorrect and since we have always freely helped newer WMs get a good start in this industry, with nothing expected in return, we try to help these newer people distinguish between good and poor advice. creamxtreme - based on everything I have read on this board and another one that you have posted on, I would be understating the situation if I repeated some silly name calling about "know-it-alls", and got into a pissing match with you as in my 50 years, I have never found a reasonable reason to resort to childish games in my dealings with other buisness people and I'm not going to start with this case. I will, however recommend to you, just like I do with any other newer WM who wants to learn (keyword being wants), to visit some of the Search Engine sponsored discussion groups run by the people who actually write the algorithms and run the ranking systems for their livelihood. They are a tremendous source of information that could help anyone desiring to place well for their sites with all types of fact-based hints. I certainly hope that you take the time to try to learn (even in the case where you might become a competitor down the road) instead of jumping on every person who disagrees with your posts. I will guarantee you that if that path is taken, there is no limit to what you can do in this buisness. I will continue to help the newer WMs as I had the same help when I first started, and I feel that giving back to the community is what makes this a fun and rewarding job every day. |
Now let me dig up a thread that has been dead for two weeks and re-answer the question with a half page off topic diatribe...
.. oh wait it's already been done....!! DD |
I just love waking up in the morning with an email thats says someone replied to my post
|roses| |
creamxtreme - I do love when the other person proves my point for me :)
"...I respect other peoples opinions, this is how we learn...' "Did I hear anyone say linkster?..." Open mouth ---> insert foot |
What a Fucking Joke!

Linkster's opinion is respectible, no matter how pathetic, it is respectible. Now to suggest that a person not interpret something is sad - extremely sad. Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains. and Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content. Are totally two different statements. Monkey is from a college town so I do not think he is no dumby and I am certain he is capable of determining right from wrong (about a subject or even about the author(s) of the subject), he doesn't need someone else telling him how wrong someone else is. Now if the response had something to do with the subject, instead of the people discussing it, then I would have no problem. And this is the basis, for my own personal belief, that there is no possible fucking way anyone can come here and benefit from this board. There are more personal attacks against other members, from a select few, than there is discussion about the subject people wish to learn about or read about. Then again, like I said, what do I know, I'm just an idiot who joined this board. Now that's a joke. Nick P.S. Linkster, as far as any other board goes, you wouldn't last long there, people wouldn't put up with your crap for too very long, they'd identify you quickly as a "loon" - they love clean decent subjects that are meaningful and not threads that spin and go nowhere with little use. There are many great people there, who love to discuss things, not debate about who is and isn't right or wrong. As the moderator there once lamented, "we do not want our board to turn out like so many others, we enjoy coming here talking with others, getting to know people" and not just to watch assholes bicker back and forth about how much more they or someone else knows or how much better they are than others. If this is what you want fine with me - again it doesn't hurt me in the least. But first, I think the board should be renamed to "Come Be An Asshole With Me Board" where many great assholes hang out and tell each other how fucked up they are. And in doing so you can make a whole lot of money in this business with us. YEAH Fucking Right! LMAO Nick P.S.S. Edited: Reminds me of my first old lady, we spent more time arguing, than we did loving each other, needless to say I could not find any benefit in being there so I left her. Damn am I happy I did, what a waste of fucking time, money and resources that was. what a waste of fucking time, money and resources Wonder what that sounds like? |
I read every thread on all the boards and post to many. The only person having a problem with the way this board is run is YOU.
If you had the slightest idea on how to participate in a board you wouldn't have people so upset. Common sense dictates that when you become a member of a board you read before you post. You don't just start typing whatever hair brain idea that comes to mind i.e. revshare, autosubmitters, etc. Your approach is not helpful no matter how many times YOU say it is. There are many well respected members of this board who make more each day than you do in a month and we try to help the new "honest and open" webmasters that ask for help. All this is documented on every page of the various boards here. Your opinion is the only one you seem to respect. The result is you attack all the people that do not bow to your God complex. |
Well, here ya go!

Their posts are eloquent, understanding, meaningful and much more. They have no interest in nothing other than what they talk about and if someone else differs with what they say, they just continue on with good discussions. Again, like I said several times already - it is just a "select few" who fuck this board up miserably. And all I can say is more power to them - they'll make great strides and large loot in this industry. Speaking of which "how much money", did you say, "I make in a month?" Nick P.S. Real shame how honest webmasters with only an interest of sharing and gaining from an experience are subjected to such debasing comments from assholes. I did not hear any of you apologizing to Monkey for this blantant disregard to his thread. Crying shame - really. Once again Monkey, I apologize for the way your thread turned out. How's that for "God Like" complexes Surfn? |

Re: Here we go again.
Monkey - I'm with DD - pretty pointless in most cases IMO.

You are an unneccesarily rude and confrontational person - very sad :( |
Sub domains are a search engine spammer's weapon of choice these days. I predict search engines will start penalizing domains with multiple/dozens of sub-domains all linking to each other.
|
SomeCreep - I wish it would happen - but I have a feeling with so many virtual hosts out there in the non-adult world using subdomains as their main tool and so many valid sites on subdomains, it's gonna be tough for google to do more than they already have :(
The linking together part is even tough as that requires them to use the whois info, and that kinda load on their servers doing the checks and mapping web links is probably beyond their automatic capability. The only exceptions I can see are where it's something so drastic as the link-farms that were selling PR and flying way above the radar with 50 thousand domains linked together - us little guys that have a few hundred domains probably wont get a second look unless there is a really good reason - like dumping tens of thousands of subdomain pages into the SEs - those usually get spotted by someone and reported right away |
Linkster?
Do you have some links to your articals and the Search Engine sponsored discussion groups? Thanks |
troy - you have a PM :)
|
One thing i realy hate in this bizz is when people are disrespectfull to others, ( bare me on the spelling late here) i realy respect linksters opinions, i learnd alot from him...........and i hate people being just assholes without reason........

Build a site for surfers not search engines - the search engines will like you better for it in the long run. The rest of you stop bickering :D I'm going back to my Kilkenny - I found a shop that sells it here - and I'm as happy as fucking Larry! Cheers and Gute Nacht |cheers
