I'm Injured - Gonna Be Scarce

A couple days ago, I slept wrong on my right shoulder & woke up in a lot of nerve pain. After 3 trips to the chiropractor, he sent me to my primary, who thinks I either have a severely pinched nerve or I slipped a disk :(

I should be going for an MRI tomorrow & then we'll know more.

Typing & moving my mouse is almost unbearable. The pain meds I'm on does not even begin to touch this pain. They put me on steroids to try & reduce the swelling, and while that did help, it wore off after a couple hours.

It took me a good 20 minutes to type this with my left hand, so working is almost pointless.

As soon as I can type without a serious amount of pain, I'll be back.

bDok 2011-11-03 11:52 PM

Holy fuck balls. Sorry to hear. Speedy recovery.

On the other hand now you know how it feels to type as a porn surfer, with one hand...

Bill 2011-11-04 06:00 AM

Ramster 2011-11-04 09:42 AM

Simon 2011-11-04 09:44 AM

Damn man, you know you're getting old when you can hurt yourself by sleeping in the wrong position. Wishing you well with the MRI results and then getting what's wrong fixed so the pain goes away.

LeRoy 2011-11-04 10:19 AM

Cleo 2011-11-04 12:32 PM

Well that sucks. :(

Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery.

housekeeper 2011-11-04 12:51 PM

I highly recommend acupuncture for an ailment such as that, of course that depends largely on if those types of practices are available in your area, I would venture a guess they are.

It may take 2-3 treatments approx, but far more effective than chiropractor, which I have no confidence in.

MeatPounder 2011-11-05 12:11 AM

Damn
Between you and Cleo, you guys are going to break the health insurance industry ;)

LD 2011-11-05 08:12 AM

Sux man, but it will get better. Be careful with the pain stuff.

Greenguy 2011-11-05 01:51 PM

Update - I had an MRI yesterday, so I should have the results on that on Monday. The pain has been increasing each day & my right hand is almost constantly numb.

My chiropractor thinks it might be aspartame poisoning due to the amount of diet pop/soda I drink, so for now I'm cutting all that out. If that is the case,m it will sort itself out in about a month :(

SheepGuy 2011-11-05 01:53 PM

That sucks! Hope you get fixed up soon!

Cleo 2011-11-05 04:51 PM

Dude I've seen the way you eat. I'm surprised you are growing extra limbs or something.

The Epic 2011-11-05 05:46 PM

Didn't know Diet soda could have that effect. I was told once by my doctor though it can attribute to migraines like I get, but I don't drink the stuff.

Hopefully it's something so simple.

Cleo 2011-11-05 06:24 PM

Numerous studies have linked drinking diet soda to diabetes and ironically to weight gain.

pc 2011-11-05 06:50 PM

ooops, missed this one :(
Hope you'll be well soon |waves|

JustRobert 2011-11-05 07:45 PM

Sorry to hear all that Greenie. Hopefully it will be quicker then the docs say.

The upside to all this is if you cut out all that soda and hopefully all those energy drinks as well, you might be able to get a decent sleep pattern back which will give you more energy then the drinks do.

JustRobert 2011-11-05 07:47 PM

Cleo,

I think that view would make me more stressed.

Hopefully you will recover quicker then expected as well.

Ms Naughty 2011-11-06 12:21 AM

Been away for a bit, I come back to horror health stories. Get well soon Greenie and Cleo.

When I first developed RSI 12 years ago, I went through the whole gamut of alternative medicine. I know this: kineseology is utter bullshit, chiropractors aren't much better, acupuncture is an exercise in cash removal and homeopathy is... well, I'm embarrassed to even admit that I tried it. What did make a difference was regular exercise, stretching and massages.

That said, a pinched nerve or slipped disc is a whole different ballgame and I hope the doctors can find a solution for you Greenie.

RedCherry 2011-11-06 01:10 PM

I just saw this too, get better Greenie. Pinched nerves are NOT fun.

Having been born with pinched nerves in my neck because of extra ribs, I know that pain, I had to give up a career because of it. (I had a full-paid 4-year scholarship for music, I was a very, very good cello player, but playing made me in pain so bad, it was all I could not to cry during concerts, damn I loved playing).

Grandma Scrotum is right, Chiropractor has helped somewhat, but stretching and exercise helps me more than anything. I still have a lot of problems with numbness if I get my wrist bent too much but at least I can type.

And I've heard of aspartame poisoning doing that. Might want to check out gluten intolerance while you are at it, as that can cause pain issues too.

Hang in there, they find the cause they can get it better. You also might want to look into making sure your keyboard is exactly the right height, as we all spend so much time at them, if it is off even an inch up or down can cause strains too.

Greenguy 2011-11-06 04:44 PM

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone :)

The good news is that after sleeping pretty much 24 hours & taking steady doses of steroids, the pain has dulled itself quite a bit. The bad news is, my hand is almost completely numb & my left hand is starting to follow suit.

But I have to get some work done - like update these link lists - so let's hope the pain holds out for a couple hours as I type with one finger :D

terry 2011-11-06 06:52 PM

aspartame poisoning - my uncle had that.. now he cant even chew gum that has that shit in it.

good luck!

AlyMC 2011-11-07 09:15 AM

Hope the pain goes away soon !!

SykkBoy 2011-11-07 02:53 PM

Hope you keep getting better Greenie

Choopa Phil 2011-11-07 03:03 PM

wish you a save and speedy recovery, get well soon!

Greenguy 2011-11-07 04:36 PM

Well, I got the MRI read by a specialist today & it's not good. Seems my spinal cord is rubbing against my spine over 4 or 5 vertebrae. We have no idea the cause - I guess usually it's caused by some sort of trauma, but nothings happened to me along those lines. Just bad luck I guess.

I'll know more on Wednesday when I go in with my wife & mom to go over options, but odds are surgery is in my future.

They increased my pain meds, so I can at least work, even though my hands are constantly cold & numb.

This really sucks :(

Ms Naughty 2011-11-07 05:09 PM

Damn Greenie, that really sucks. Although it's good they've discovered the cause. Hope it works out.

dunc 2011-11-07 05:32 PM

That really does suck Greenie - let hope they can fix it soon.

Isn't it weird how injuries manifest themselves - you've done an injury to your back, and your hand doesn't work |huh

JustRobert 2011-11-08 12:37 AM

Was not expecting to hear that Greenie :(

JustKim and I send you warm thoughts and best wishes for positive news.

Simon 2011-11-08 09:34 AM

Wow, I never knew you could get injured like that playing fantasy football. ;)

Wishing you well on the options visit and with whatever you choose to do about it.

.

Greenguy 2011-11-08 10:35 AM

Thanks Simon - that made me smile for the 1st time in about a week :)

Fonz 2011-11-08 11:20 AM

Ouch! I hope that you don't need surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Adult Insider D 2011-11-08 06:17 PM
