Cleo - Help!

Cleo,

I just submitted a site to you and got slapped with the black list page! What in the world did I do? I submit free sites and tgp galleries all the time to different places and have never been blacklisted. |sad|

I use different domains for my sites but always use the same e-mail and name (becky@avsdeisgner.com / ladydesigner). I don't cheat - never have, never will. Please let me know if this is some cruel mistake before I have a nervous breakdown.

Thanks! :-)

Cleo 2003-09-13 10:59 AM

becky@avsdeisgner.com is not on the blacklist. What is the domain that you used?

ladydesigner 2003-09-13 11:02 AM

Ooops! Sorry, forgot to include that.

The domain is http://www.thefetishfiles.net
and the site I was trying to submit is http://www.thefetishfiles.net/free/satin_teens/

Cleo 2003-09-13 11:06 AM

You are on the shared list for 404 after listing. :(
http://bl.usefulscripts.com/blocked/

I didn't put you there so you need to file an appeal.

Tommy 2003-09-13 11:17 AM

404 after listing.

theres only one webmaster that black lists for that :D

ladydesigner 2003-09-13 11:18 AM

Oh no! Ok, thanks I'll do the appeal thing. I don't use that domain much so I have no idea what caused a 404. Nice way to start my weekend.

Thanks for looking into this so quickly. :-)

Oh crap! When I screw up, I screw up big! If there's anyone out there that knows what the url is that's coming up 404, I'd love to know so I could fix it ASAP!

I've checked and can't find anything wrong but I'm sure I probably deleted something on accident. I just filed the appeal so maybe someone will get back to me....

Greenguy 2003-09-13 11:41 AM

Yes, I do blacklist for having a page go 404 - I guess Tommy likes to have hil inks going all over the place as opposed to going to the site that was listed :D

http://www.thefetishfiles.net/ls/ - went 404 last June & that's when it was placed on the blacklist :(

Spiders run every 2 hours. All check for different things but all spiders remove 404s

so the longest a 404 is on my site is 2 hours

Thanks for letting me know what the url is. I'd put that site back up but I honestly don't know what it was. I'm guessing a free site if it was blacklisted by GG.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Make a new free site using that url? Of all the hundreds of sites I have, this is the first time this has ever happened. I feel like a retard. :-(

Greenguy 2003-09-13 12:31 PM

I'll pull the blacklist - just don't do it again! :D

So Tommy, if a webmaster's sites go 404 time after time (even if for only 2 hours) you don't blacklist them?

Tommy 2003-09-13 12:39 PM

if it goes to a page that is just a blank white 404 page
then no

if there are any sort of ads on that page, or if it refreashes
then they get blacklisted

if it goes to a tgp or link site
their sponsor codes get put in to the spider
and their ip numbers get black listed
all submit points are removed from the webmaster

|smooch| Thank you!!

Cleo 2003-09-13 12:46 PM

I ban for 404. I hate going through all the trouble of doing reviews only to have the site go 404.

I do realize that webmasters make mistakes and delete stuff that should not have been deleted, I've done it myself, so I'll almost always remove them from my ban list once they take care of the problem. At least if it seems like it was an honest mistake and not something like that asshole from a few weeks ago that did it to all their domains and you could see that they were just cheating. :(

I use to think like that, but then I realize that just about all of us have custom 404 pages, at least anybody that has a clue about this business, so it still goes back to what I posted in my last post.

Cleo 2003-09-13 12:53 PM

I should add that when I trying to decide how to handle a 404 listing a lot depends on if I know the name from the boards. I tend to be very forgiving and understanding if I know them from the boards and they are active or at least if they come to the boards seeking help.

Just another reason why it is so important to be active on the boards in this business. :)

dareutwo 2003-09-13 04:16 PM

Do I have to agree with Cleo again |rasta|
Actually I give quite a bit of slack to regular submitters, but more importantly, I give a lot of slack to board posters.

Lurkers may have their reasons, but business wise I don't think any of the reasons make economice sense.

Post - get known - and when a problem arises (which Will happen) ask for help from the people you know or have met.

Does Cleo get another BC doll for another thousand posts?? |buddy|

dareutwo 2003-09-13 04:18 PM

LMAO

economice

Yeah, like that's a word (though if hamsters run your biz)

economic

Cleo 2003-09-13 04:23 PM

Well we do have hamster powered servers.

I would say that by how fast this board is running these days we must have a 800 pound monster hamster. :D

Hmmm, two of these |buddy| I don't know, turn off the lights, leave the room, might end up with a bunch of pillow play. |smooch|

DangerDave 2003-09-13 05:48 PM

I ban for 404

Single 404 will just get deleted and the info noted.
Multi 404 - blacklist
Any 404 page with redirect or ads - blacklist
Regular submitters get once chance for a single.

DD

Norad 2003-09-13 07:19 PM

This may be a stupid question, and if it is, I apologize. From what I think I'm reading here, should the domain that I use to post free sites not have a cutsom 404? I'm not saying that I plan on deleting a site after it is listed, but I know that there are times I do stupid things. It depends on the domain, but some redirect to the root index, and others have ads in an attempt to target those who do that type in url's things as if they are just looking for something. Anyway, I just want to make sure I have all my duckies in a row.

Thanks,
Norad

natalie 2003-09-13 08:01 PM

Yeah Norad thats what I was just thinking too. I was told to have a custom 404 page with ads on it when I started. So that what I have, plus some that I have just going to the index cos I havent got around to making 404's yet.
Hopefully I never have pages I have submitted go 404 but its not hard to make a mistake!

Cleo 2003-09-13 08:24 PM

Custom 404 pages with ads make money since surfers go snooping around your domains to see what they can find.

Avoid putting consoles on them or anything bad as if you make a mistake, and we all do, the reviewer is going to get hit with your 404 page.

Be active on the boards, get your name known, build quality sites, conduct business in a professional manor.

If a problem should arise take care of it right away and be open about it so that there is no misunderstanding.

While some places don't ban but only delete for 404 if it is the Apache default page many other places will ban no matter what you put on your 404 page so you might as well try to make a few bucks off of your 404 traffic.

WolfPack 2003-09-13 11:29 PM

Server downtime can also get you banned for 404. It happened to me and I'm still in the list, my 404 was not custom though. I am an honest newbie trying to make some money without cheating. Any help is greately appreciated.

404 is a served document. You cannot 404 when your server is down. impossible.

all of my domains have 404 redirect to either the main page of the domain or to wherever i see fit if the domain does not have a main page.

kind of silly to blacklist for 404 redirecting (unless it goes to a sponsor page, then yeah, that seems pretty intentional). but it's your list, you can do as you want.

you dont tell me what to do with my sites, i sure as hell am not going to tell you what to do with yours.

porn tony 2003-09-14 02:44 PM

this also hapened to me last week when i submited to cleos
i followed the derections and e mailed for an apeal but have not recived a reply yet. anyone know how long it takes to here back?
i would never intentionaly cause 404s i know it would not be worth getting banned from submisions
im an honest webmaster |waves|

Osiris 2003-09-15 12:31 AM

I think I have my 404s pointing to my links list... which can be found here: http://www.porn-avs.com So if something does happen to screw up, please know that it was not intentional.. I am going through the process of getting everything sorted out so that I can start doing freesites again on a daily basis, and not once every other week or month.. If something gets screwed up in the process, please let me know and I'll fix it ASAP!

Well... I guess I didn't make myself clear. Here is what happened, I was using revsharehosting, so there were some server issues and all my domains went down and everything in that domains was lost and I had no backup, so when the server was up again it was redirecting to the revsharehosting's 404 page.

Hope it is clear now.
