Is Yahoo now useless as an adult search engine?
 

When do they plan to show some real results? This is garbage:

I have seen an increase (actually I have seen some traffic for the first time) from Yahoo search. Don't know what I did right but I made my first sale yesterday from a Yahoo search.

Hope it keeps happening and grows|bananna|

Not complaining here.. knock on wood..

I am totally in love with Yahoo, they have my sites ranked very high for some key words.

Yahoo and MSN have both sent more traffic to me than google has on something that I am currently working on. Also what is up with your Hoes.com Sponsor Stats! link? It sends me to http://server.maido3.com/ and there is a shit load of ascii on the page.|afro|

i love yahoo

the amount of traffic they send me is insane!!

that however does not mean that they list a lot of spam and tons of other crap sites...

but i dont care as long as i continue to get so amazing numbers from them

I actually get more Yahoo traffic, then Google as well.

Jenny - thats the "new" script kiddies spam tool - they copy pages from all of the LLs - fill the pages with more crap - feed it to the Slurp and Google bots - and then cloak it to a redirect page that goes to their sponsors - neither of the SEs are able to catch this with their algorithms "yet" - of course there has been some that have been reported through the spam reporting forms at each of the SEs but most get away with it - the other problem it seems to be causing is that the pages they use (because they are linking hundreds of backlinks to these pages) are ranking extremely well and the SEs think that our original pages are cupe content getting us lowered in the rankings.

Hand banning has started over at Google for this trash, but most of these guys/girls are using throwaway domains and just replace it as soon as its banned. Its not something thats going to go away right away - Google is too involved in their IPO to worry about updates and don't want to make major algo changes - Yahoo is totally lost and really doesnt know what they are doing yet :(

Just my opinion of course :)

BTW - this is what the new Yahoo SE will look like - notice the new. before the search.yahoo.com

Don't feel bad - it does not find much of my stuff either.

In realated news: Yahoo's stock took a hammering today.

I get tons of traffic from Yahoo for certain keywords. They have been a lot better to me than Google so far.

huh??? I opened up the old and new versions side by side and they look identical....what is the difference?

So...you folks that are getting more traffic from yahoo than from google, do any of you know why you are doing well at Yahoo?

I'm starting to think that Yahoo checks Google first, and if you're doing well at Google then they won't list you at Yahoo...or at least bury you. Maybe they're doing this to keep the results different so people don't think they're copying Google or a Google wannabe. |roses|

Sometimes you will get a hit from Yahoo for one of your strong google keywords, only to find that when you check out the page in Yahoo you are never listed? They popup from time to time for me and I can't figure it out.

well as I said yahoo has been good to me for the first time this month and I have been able to find my stuff right now - but what I am seeing, is changes in the results by the day and hour..

something.. I think is going on between google and yahoo and what CaptainJSparrow said might be true - but I am no expert, just a tweaker, hoper, and prayer for any SE traffic..

And has my new extra yahoo traffic brought me any sign ups NO.. |sad|

This might be a dumb question, but does it matter if your site is listed in the Yahoo Directory? It seems that the sites that get high listings are mostly all in the directory...

mb - happens all the time :) Yahoo still has some Google results on datacenters overseas - I havent been able to narrow down which countries yet - but Im working on it :)

pusher - in most cases it really doesnt seem to help much - If you do a "directory" search for "sex" or "porn" Im in the top 10 - if you do a "web" search I wont come up at all - actually the first 20 listings for those words as well as "free sex" and "free porn" etc. have been hand edited on the web search results to stay the same and theyve been that way for months with no changes during Yahoo updates that have occured since they dropped google.

I've noticed completely different listings for the original links I posted in the first message of this thread. Still alot of cloaking and junk, but at least different serps for each search.

Looks like they've completed step one of getting themselves into the right direction... now let's start seeing some relevancy!

Myself and a few colleagues met with Yahoo Europe/UK in London about a month ago. Things are changing on the adult front though they are moving very slowly.

It seems to be the same old storythat they want th revenue though dont want the brand damaged.

Did they happen to give any indication as to whether purchasing a spot in their directory would have any positive impact on ranking?

I used to get 3000 a day to link fab from Yahoo... now get 300... I have no idea what is happening... but I know for sure i wish it would stop :(

It never really has in the past, marc, so I don't think it's likely that it will have any effect in the future.

I don't see any signs that the domains that I bought into the directory back in the day get any significant boost in the regular listing, either now, or in the time before the "new yahoo". What boost they get I attribute to the other link pop I have built for those domains.

marc - :) I agree with Bill - and when I asked the rep from Yahoo - he gave me the stock answer that while having a directory listing will guarantee that they will spider your site, it gives no ranking advantage and you can use their new free submit or the site match program and get the same results.

On the other question that was brought up about Yahoo seeming to show referrers in site logs but not being able to find the listings I did find the answer - seems that a lot of surfers never clear their cookies - and if they still have an old cookie from before Yahoo switched over to their own database, Yahoo still has that cookie going to the old results database fed by Google - they havent paid any attention to it yet - and for some reason they've neglected to fix their old cookie direction script :)

That would explain it perfectly... I never thought about that!

YES! I know why I am doing well :D

Actually I used to do rather well on google too until they had that big reindexing about 6 months ago which dropped me to 2nd or 3rd page on my targeted key words. But when Yahoo redid their indexes I was tops on google....maybe this helped in my yahoo placement.

So, chilihost...you think that you're doing well on Yahoo because you used to do well on Google and that Yahoo is somehow displaying old Google results, or weighting on sites that used to do well at Google?

I would like to know for sure if having a pop up really does effect a listing at yahoo |noclue|

Are you talking about the Yahoo Europe reps? Or someone that actually has some pull in the main office :)

Actually - the reps in the US have been real good with answers - but they are not going to give out more info than any other SE when it comes to how to place well - wouldnt be in their best interest

Its a good level contact who has been tasked to address this market.

Most of my traffic comes from yahoo... go for more niche specific keywords. "Free sex", "free porn", etc... won't get you anything.

Totally agree. I was making a killing up until google got in the mix...|sad|

Ask them about their spam reporting and spam removal policies.

Does yahoo have a spam reporting page? Does yahoo want community help in reporting spam? How is spam removed from the results?

Ask them about the future of the directory. Will the directory continue? Will older sites in the directory be purged? How is the quality of the directory being maintained?
