New gTld domain releases
 

As most of you probably already know - or if you watch football you were spammed with commercials for them - there will be a release of some 700-1000 new generic Tlds for domains very soon...so in addition to .com, .net etc there will be things like .corp, .shop, .fashion and on and on - Icann has a list of the status of each one here - https://gtldresult.icann.org/applica...tus/viewstatus

For most (and this is my opinion and the consensus of most of the top domainers) these will be a total waste of money. After all of the other gTld releases in the last few years like .us,.info etc - .com still has 92% of search results and rankings - .net has another 3%. The only people that will profit from these names are the domain companies selling them just like the .sex release - You are still better off finding a keywordkeyword.com for regular registration price than getting keyword.shop (and the good ones have already been reserved by Amazon and Google for giveaways for hosting sites in future endeavors)

I have a friend who set up a .com website for his film company using his company's name. He then bought the domain in every available TLD (including .xxx even though he makes mainstream films not adult ones) to prevent anyone using his company name for nefarious uses. I have not seen him in a long while, but the next time we meet up I must remember to ask him if he now owns 1000 domains to cover all the new TLDs. :)
