Linking to your mainstream sites from your adult sites. Good idea?

Or not?

Since we all have a bunch of established sites would it be a good idea to link to our mainstream sites or will this affect the mainstream sites in a negative way?

dunc 2011-06-05 07:32 PM

Nah, not a good idea, it would put your site in a bad neighborhood.

(who comes up with these terms?)

terry 2011-06-06 08:37 PM

I agree not a good idea. Been there, done that. It will get traffic but Google doesnt like it too much. Best to link your site from other related sites.

smashits 2011-06-07 02:47 AM

Don't do that. Will definitely have negative impact on your site ranking.

Why? How will a link from a website adult or not have a negative impact on your own website?

adultfriendly 2011-06-07 11:05 AM

I can tell you I ran this test on a few of my sites and believe it or not my SERPS went way down. SO in my own opinion NOPE not a good idea.

It does. Been there, done that and so have a few others that I know. All with the same negative results.

I'm going to throw up a couple of links to Amazon and bring them down.

fetishbank 2011-06-08 05:15 AM

I also don't think it's a good idea to send your adult traffic to your mainstream sites but I disagree it will have a negative impact on search engines ranking.

I think it will have a negative impact ONLY it there's no relationship between the content of the sites (in this case the link could be considered something like a junk link). I don't think if you have a foot fetish site and you link to foot fetish book on Amazon you'll be deranked. Google is not that stupid. At most Amazon will close your acount as it is forbidden to advertise them on adult sites : )

I've been thinking a while about the connection between adult - non adult sites...

I think this kind of linking (if done correctly) won't penalize your porn site (reason shown above) but it could have a negative effect (if many links point to it) on a non adult site ranking. Infact, when possible, for a certain search term google tend to provide NON-PORN result (even if they can be ADULT). An example to clarify:

- If you search for "FETISH" you'll get pages of result of sites which are ADULT but non PORN related (wikipedia, dictionaries and so on)
- If you search for "FETISH TGP" google is giving you what you want: porn sites

So, many porn sites pointing to your non adult site could make a search engine think your site is not suitable for all, and so it could be penalized. I still think a very small percentage (1-5%) of links from porn sites cannot have an effect on your ranking. Think, ALL exit pages of porn sites point to disney.com - disney.com should be heavily deranked. Anyway, your non adult site is not disney.com so better not to try !

I was thinking there would be some items that would naturally work on both adult and mainstream. Lingerie, for example.

Cleo 2011-06-08 10:48 AM

On the test blog that I'm doing I had planned to send it the exit traffic from all my free sites and stuff that is now going to this useless page. On the new stuff I was just going to link to my mainstream blog and then for the old stuff and put a 301 redirect on cleogoodstuff.com.

Now with this thread though it seems that that wouldn't be the best thing to do.

But would linking to my mainstream blog from my adult stuff only hurt this one blog or wound it also affect the links to other mainstream stuff of mine that was linked to from this blog?

I guess what I'm asking is,
Adult Stuff--> Mainstream Blog--> Other mainstream blogs and stuff
So would the Other mainstream blogs and stuff also get hurt or just the first blog?

Since so far my mainstream stuff consists of one blog with zero content and I'm taking forever to do anything with it I guess I have plenty of time to think things through. :D

Cleo - from my experience having any link to an adult site (doesnt matter if its just a links page, blog, etc), I can never get it ranked on the first page of Google. During the dance it may get moved around a lot, but never stay there.
Those same tests with only linking from related sites, forums, etc keeps me right up there with the competition.

In this case one type of Lingerie site is a person or people having sex. The other would be an article of clothing, an article on how it's made, lingerie for sale, etc. Nothing to do with sex other than it might put someone in the mood to have sex. ;)

LeRoy 2011-06-08 11:37 PM

Shoots!

I wanted to link a mainstream site on adult sites :(

You know... at the bottom with some text --> "Tired of Porn" -> Check Out my "non porn blog"

Having quite a bit of smutty traffic at the hip. Can easily get some ad clicks to the mainstream ppc ads.

I was thinkin beer drinkin blog or sports stuff. Kinda like FHM or Mens Mag.

Tommy 2012-09-20 11:07 AM

I dont see the harm in it
Guys that surf for porn buy all sorts of things, They go on vacation, Have kids and houses

I have always done it with http://www.dcjunkies.com and that has a (PR4)

Pagan 2012-09-21 05:35 AM

Hmmm.. I have actually done this for a good number of years. I borrowed an idea from Greenie, and have sent all of my exit traffic to my joke website instead of google or disney. There is an mature humor section, so it isn't really so out of line. That site has a PR of 7 these days while my adult sites creep along at 2. Granted, it is only one single outbound link from just the index page of free sites.

ecchi 2012-09-22 09:54 AM

I do it constantly. I get good traffic and I think it has helped my PR a little. However make sure you have many times as many links from other mainstream sites as from adult sites because Google sees the location of links to your site as indicative of the type of keywords to assign to your site. For example, a few years back when I was still doing free sites I used my jokes site as an "exit" link on the warn page. At that time I happened to be doing a lot of oral sex and anal sex sites, and I found that over 95% of the traffic sent to the jokes site was for people searching terms appropriate to oral and anal sex.

Greenguy 2012-09-22 12:36 PM

I was surprised to find my exit page was PR5 after years & years of just linking to it. It did drop to PR4 last month, but it's become a nice place to sell text links on |thumb

Tommy 2012-09-24 02:28 PM

If you guys are looking for something to send exit traffic to
please consider a new blog I started working on
http://www.frugaldisney.com

I would appreciate it
