Book on what men really think about porn
Writer David Loftus has a book called Watching Sex: How Men Really Respond to Pornography
http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston...ts/03166168.asp A very interesting article. His attack on the anti-porn feminists who were making sweeping generalisations about what men think (without asking them) is great. It's exactly what I thought when I read Dworkin's book... There is one dodgy comment in that article, kind of put me off this bloke a bit: Q: Do you think people in the porn industry are reading the book? Do you think it’ll become a kind of handbook for producers of pornography, letting them know what men want to see? A: I’d like to say yeah, but I don’t think so. People who manufacture and perform in pornography by and large I suspect don’t read a lot. Q: Or maybe that’s just another misconception. A: Could be. Who knows? But I’ve got to say, I haven’t had a lot of feedback in general. Well, thanks for asking, mate. |waves| |
Ask AVN, ALL Of Em, etc... if they read a lot :)

Yeah thats a real general ass comment to make, suprised especially coming from the asshole that wrote the book.

Sort of suggests that the data / results / theories put forward might be tainted by his ideas. Apparently he doesn't hold porn makers in high regard, imagine how he really feels about consumers.
Another suckass trying to make money without appearing to be dirty. Alex |
Oh Wait!! -
If I can write a book about porn - I can surf it for free?? LOL |

A review of the book at AVN Online
http://www.avnonline.com/issues/2003...0703_002.shtml It's a pity he made such a negative comment, because I think his book sounds like a worthwhile thing. It's useful to know what our surfers are thinking. And overall I'd say it presents a positive image of how porn affects men (better than the usual "it's addictive and violent" crap). I didn't really want to abuse him, even if it was a stupid thing to say :) In a way, it does show he didn't research his subject quite as well as he could, but then his focus was the consumers not the producers of porn... |
I read Penthouse Forum every time I visit the can :D
