can anyone give me any pointers as to what this site does or doesn't need?

You need to keep your links to 3 or under not counting recips.

Some places will not take pics on html.

The red text on a blue background is hard on the eyes.

Is it any better now?

Your enter link could be a little bigger (the size of the text on the ads under it almost distracts form it)

But other than that, it looks ok to me :)
