How do you promote things you don't like?

I'll be sticking with the sorta sites I can personally see the attraction to for a little while.

But- shouldn't I eventually start promoting things I don't like or understand like Gay and BBW?

Although my best friend in the world is gay, I still find seeing two dudes together pretty yucky.

I know I'm leaving some highly converting sites by the sideline if I don't promote gay though.

If/when you started promoting niches that you didn't personally like how did you do it? Is it just sorta robotic ad copy?

You can't sell what you don't like. It's a sad fact.

Surfn 2004-08-26 09:52 PM

Gay is the only one I do very little with because I don't know their lexicon that well. The few dozen I've done I researched on sites like the the hun to see what copy was working. Then paraphrased it in my copy.

I've done a bit more with shemale. I've had success with both but I don't come across good content that often.

I don't really agree with this. I do understand where you are coming from though since it was hard for me to sell certain things when I was in the food business. However just because I don't like it doesn't mean that it won't be profitable if we find something about it we like, for example good quality.
So that's how you can look at it Alpah. Find something about the sponsor you like; high quality images or movies, good descriptions value for the price, etc... and work on those things. Remember, "you need to accentuate the positive" and sell away.

I can't promote something that grosses me out like cum shots.

Gay guy porn just bores me so I just don't feel like doing it.

Tranny stuff is like doing porn using only ugly woman but at least it isn't boring.

I like fantasy clothing stuff and it sells well so I normally do a lot of it but lately I've been so busy with doing tranny stuff that I haven't had time to do much of it and I also often have a hard time getting fresh content to do it.

I also like looking at babe stuff but have never done well with it so I don't much do it anymore.

By all means stick to what you like. If you try to promote something you don't like you most likely will not make much if any money doing it.

Hugs,
Danielle

While I agree that you should stick with doing things you do like to start with - in the future (or while you are just surfing around on a break) you should check out some of the informational resources out there for the niches that you don't like - if you can at least get a basic understanding of terms used and general likes and dislikes of those surfers, it will help prevent coming off like you dont have a clue when you do build a site for that niche.

For the gay niche there are a lot of WMs out there that will definitely help out with understanding their niche. The resource section here has links to a few of the better ones.

I've always felt that doing biz is more important than my personal likes and dislikes - and I can tell you that the income from other niches can definitely keep me from worrying about whether I like the niche |jester|

Well said Linkster |shake|

Greenguy 2004-08-27 07:08 AM

Of course it's much easier to sell what you like, but do you really think all these ad executives and celebrity endorsers actually like all the products they push?

Short Irish Guy 2004-08-27 08:29 AM

I'm not a big fan of the gay/shemale niche but it converts better for me than straight sites so I...*ahem* suck it up and cash the checks |bananna|

Tommy 2004-08-27 10:02 AM

maybe next week I will start a new shemale category

finnbear 2004-08-27 10:22 AM

I build sites for every niche I can find, no matter if I like them or not. Only my gay sites are the ones that haven't gave me a penny yet.

As an example, I don't get kicks looking lesbian pics, but I have built lesbian sites and they sell like average. I took ads and texts from paysites I promote.

I build tranny sites. I read about it a lot before starting and I have sold a pretty load of sign-ups. BTW, I have started to get rebills from Foxy Angel's site.

My best sellers have been all kinds of weird fetishes like girls fucking guys, facesitting, trample, ass lickers, women in prison etc. which I don't know anything but sponsors paysites have good ad talk. There is not so many surfers looking for them, but those who are are good buyers.

Almost every site you build will give you sign-up sooner or later. I have sites that didn't sold in months and I had already forgotten them and then one day BANG there is a sign-up. If sponsor has referral stats I have many times seen that sign-up has come from Google, and I'm no SE guru.

Of course I sometimes get bored for niche. If I build 5 transvestite BDSM sites I'm done. I can't watch those pics anymore. Then I build something totally different, solo amateur, lingerie, anything.

Thx for the info and opinions. |thumb

I personally only promote things I like, because when I started this biz back in '97 I didn't make squat when I was shooting what I thought the surfer wanted (full nude and hardcore), so I was at my wits end, and just started shooting what I like (panty fetish), and within months I was making a 5 figure monthly income. Ever since then I stick to what I like.

Cleo 2004-08-27 10:42 AM

Fetish and anything weird sells better for me then anything else, but you do need to sit down and learn about it before you can sell it.

I also find that I need to rotate what I'm promoting or I get burnt out real fast. I'll build tranny sites one day, uniform sites another day and then I'll try something new another day… or at least this is what I try to do.

Kewl about Angel's site, especially as you are signed up under me. :) |bananna|

sadman 2004-08-27 01:31 PM

I definetely don't like fatties, but bbw sponsors are my #1 money makers. And honestly, lately I start having a secret attraction for full bodied women :). Up to a point, same is true for mature women. I don't make gays sites, and neither trannies for the moment. I had good conversions with trannies two years ago, but now I am out of content, and shemale cd's are a little expensive. At least, too expensive to make me buy them.

I do have a gallery or two that I could supply you with… :D

A mature category too would be nice seeing as you are in an add a category mood. ;)

GunnCat 2004-08-28 01:11 AM

I do very well with mature traffic :)
