Singer Laura Branigan dies at 47
Wasn't that big fan of her music but I did know her back in the eighties as we did some partying together. I was wondering what had become of her just the other day when they were playing one of her songs on the radio.
Singer Laura Branigan dies at 47 We were almost the same age. I'm kind of in shock. |
That is Sad |sad|
I'm always shocked when I hear someone that age pass on. She had 3 years on me so it just goes to show, Live life to its fullest as you never know when your time is up. A moment of silence. |
I always think of the boat trip that we went on and she was having these shrimp wrapped in bacon that she was so proud of and being a vegetarian I wouldn't eat any so she told me that unless I ate some she was going to have me thrown off into the ocean. I finally ate one to shut her up and ended up puking for the rest of the trip.

That's sad. I remember self control, haven't heard it in probably 15 years, but the melody came back right away.
I didn't realize she lived in Quogue. Been out there a couple of times this summer. Really beautiful place. She must have loved it very much. |
They're not stating the cause though.
So...perhaps drugs? But yeah- we can take a shit any time. :( |
I heard that she had a brain aneurysm in her sleep.

Weird- I can't get the tune to "gloria" out of my head.
So Cleo, you threw up on a boat with Laura Branigan- now that's a storyline... |
She held my hair actually. LOL
The boat trip was for a gay television show called Way Off Broadway and my company at the time was one of the sponsors. She was one of the regular entertainers on the show and that is how I came to know her. The show was hosted by a tranny and female impersonator who would also sing and sometimes do the show in drag. I think she used to have a place down here or something. I don't remember her being married back then. Actually the eighties are kind of a dream like memory for me with bits a pieces missing here and there. She used to perform at the local gay bars back then, mostly at a club that was called Shanghai. Grace Jones also used to perform down here a lot. I was a big Grace Jones fan and would go see at the Copa which is a gay bar that is still here. Grace Jones was know for spitting on everyone so I would usually watch here from afar, but it was always a great show. I wonder what became of Grace Jones? I still listen to her music sometimes. |
As an ex DJ I like Grace Jones also. "Pull Up To The Bumper" and "I've Seen That Face Before" comes to mind first. If I remember right she had a hit with one Roxy Music song also (was it "Love Is A Drug?") but as it's 5am and I'm trying to tired myself to go back to bed (got up at 4am) I don't want to go to my vinyl archive to check.
Can you tell us a secret, is she tranny or not? |

Thanks, Cleo. |waves|
It was a news in some yellow paper here in the eighties that people rumour if she's transsexual or not. I had totally forgot Nina Hagen. I must have her vinyls somewhere in my archive as I remember she had at least one hit I played in discos. Disco here was mainly different than in USA. Only in big night clubs I could play only dance music and make long mixes, in other places I had to play disco, pop and rock hits and of course finnish music too. Then there were dance restaurants for older people that used to use bands but in 80's started to save money and hired only DJ:s. There I played tango, foxtrot and finnish humppa, which is a thing I don't even try to explain. |jackinthe |
