Geo-Targeting or Language Targeting?
Been thinking about this for some time, and as much as I love Geo-Targeting with Ads and such, I'm thinking language targeting probably makes more sense.
1) The person travelling to France or Italy or Japan might speak English. 2) The opposite is more often true, the person living in Canada or England or the US might be bilingual or multilingual, but they might still feel more comfortable using their native tounge as the default. Opinions? |
I think language targeting is a great idea.
Wouldn't be that hard to get php to deal with surfers by $HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE But you'd need to provide continuity for them... so maybe you would need a pay site at the end of the traffic chain to match their language. |
I'm about to start playing around with language targeting. Browser language seems to be a much better reference than geo...the only question is if the money will be better, as always. But, for example, with China cracking down on porn the way they are language targeting with chinese language sites that will get any chinese language surfers to the page you want them on could be a hell of a marketing option. We'll see.

Exactly, we all get (I am sure) more Chinese traffic from citizens in the US and Canada (that we currently don't know about), for example, and who have valid credit cards and domestic bank accounts who are more willing to make purchases, then we'll ever get (or want) from China itself (especially with the ability to buy.)
And language implementation, as said, is much easier and cost-effective than paying for and counting IPs. |
anyone knows of cheap geo-ip solutions then?
