How long are submission kept?

I'm sure this was probably covered here before but I couldn't find anything....anyways who can tell me whats the average lifespan of freesites...are there some who keep the listings in their database for good or do they rotate out after 3 to 6 months?

The reason I ask is I wonder if it might be better to keep recips on a free sites grouped together for those that keep a listing forever (so to speak) and another group where the sites are rotated out....so that they may be resubmitted again.

Would some LL owners be kind enough to post the length they keep submissions in their databases? Thanks.

My LL is forever unless your server goes down or something gets changed that breaks my rules.

jennym 2004-09-02 10:16 AM

Mine is forever as well. But, as Cleo said, there may be reasons to it being removed.

RawAlex 2004-09-02 10:21 AM

Mine are at least 6 months, often closer to forever. I only delete sites off when my cat pages get too big to handle properly.

If the site you submitted is not updated within 6 months, it does get deleted. Otherwise, aside from rules violations, it's listed forever :)

GG

Do you send notices of inactivity or just delete them? Some of us have shit memories ;)

Greenguy 2004-09-02 10:38 AM

Can you tell me what kind of update is expected? New sponosr links, new content etc?
I take it that it wouldn't do to just upload the whole site again so the time stamps are different :)

That proves my claim to a shit memory ;)

Mine's the same as Cleo and Jennym.

Sites only get deleted if they redirect etc after being listed.

What do you mean by updated? What does one need to update on a free site?

Linkster 2004-09-03 06:09 AM

Ya'll need to just read GGs words - dont try to read anything else into it - just "update" your sites :)

LinkForSex used to keep sites forever - we're in the process of removing some 4 yr old sites right now due to size of category pages - we want to make sure the SEs can get to everyones links :) - however we may just move them into some archive categories

Greenguy 2004-09-03 08:21 AM

Just so everyone knows, there was a time when I did plan on keeping every submit in there for life, but after awhile, the links were getting bigger & bigger & bigger......

So, I think 4 years ago, I put in that rule. I have 11,000 links in there now - I shudder at the thought of how many I'd have in there if this rule was not in place :D

Alphawolf 2004-09-03 10:10 AM

Linkster, I'm still confused 'cos now you made me think of it more. :D

By update your sites - implies stay an active webmaster and submit at least x amount per month or something?

Greenguy 2004-09-03 10:36 AM

Think about this reply of mine :D

Upload sites again within 6 mos? Why is this sorta under the table?

OK. I have stuff to build. :)

Forever - just as long as our rules are observed.

Of course, if a meteor were to hit London then there might be a bit of downtime.
