Help With an Outlook Express Problem

Can anyone tell me why and maybe how to fix a wee problem I have with Outlook Express?

It loads fine and downloads all messages fine but the problem is the initial email I open up can take up to thirty seconds to open for me. Every email I open after that opens instantly - it's just that first one.

Having the patience of a three year old this really does my head in. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Could it have something to do with your firewall or anti-virus software settings? I had the same issue with Outlook (regular version) and once I disabled ZoneAlarm it worked fine.

Just a thought.

I shut down my firewall and antivirus once I was offline and gave it a shot. No improvement unfortunately.

When did this start happening? If recently, you may wanna look at doing a system restore to a date when you know it wasn't happening.

Another tip is to only view emails in plain text mode... Tools>Options>Read>"Read all messages in plain text"

If you haven't already got this setting, it's worth doing to block out those nasties that your security software will miss.

Hmmmm. I don't seem to have that option available to me. I'm using Outlook Express 6. Is there another way to do this?

It's been happening for quite awhile unfortunately....I've ignored it for along time :( I keep system restored disable unfortunately.

The amount of fonts on a computer wouldn't have anything to do this would it?

Do yourself a favor and download Eudora. They have a free version with a few ads if you don't want to spend the money. It really wasn't much of a learning curve when I changed a million years ago :)

I just might do that Jim....those 30 seconds add up to alot of wasted time over a period of time.

I used to use Eudora years ago. Don't know why I switched.

I'd second the Eudora recommendation :)
