Popups/Consoles on sponsor site... OK?

Hi all, I'm pretty new at free sites, I've been doing galleries for a while though. On galleries, I use ONLY sponsor links with NO popups because that's what most TGPs want.

I've had a few people tell me that for free sites in general, you can actually use sponsors that have popups on their site. Is this true?

For instance Penisbot says "No pop up consoles ever" in their rules, but many of the listed free sites use sponsors with popups. This has me greatly confused. So does this mean that unless a free site says specifically "No sponsor popups" then sponsor popups are probably OK? I have some sponsors I would love to promote, but they have 1 exit popup.

I did a search of this board but did not find a thread that addressed this question specifically.

Thanks for any help.

I don't care about what your sponsors do. :)

What Cleo said...

Most LL dont worry about what your sponsors do.. unless they have specific rules. eg: if they don't list certain sponsors.

what cleo said, but I wanted to add something. I don't think Penisbot cares if your sponsor has popups. They just don't want popups on YOUR site. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. ;)

P.S. I am in one of those smart ass moods today, so if I piss anyone off - too fucking bad.|rasta|

Your free site should have content that's hosted in your domain. There should not be any popups in your stuff. Once a visitor clicks on a banner for a sponsor, that sponsor can do whatever they want to them. We don't care. We just want YOUR galleries to be clean.

All, thanks for the quick responses! This is GREAT news. But NOW it makes me wonder... am I misunderstanding the TGP rules too? Are there any TGPers here who know.... when they simply say "no pop-ups" does that only mean on your gallery, or does that also apply to the sponsors site?

I can't believe I've gone this far without knowing this stuff...

I think you understand the TGP rule fine. They like you to use console free sponsors/tours.

Thanks jennym! Man, everything I ever THOUGHT I knew was suddenly called into question.

With most thumbnail galleries, you're sending them straight to a sponsor's content. With a free site, your sending them to your own site, which advertises a sponsor. In both cases, most TGP owners and most LL owners want their visitors going to a clean site without popups or other tricks. Where those visitors go from there is their own problem. We just don't want our visitors complaining that the links on our lists send them to popup hells.

Your sites should be clean, because that's where we're sending our traffic. If your sponsors have popups, that not our concern, since WE didn't link to those pages. Does that make sense?

Thanks Ann, that does make sense. I don't like popups or other tricks, I don't use them on any of my pages, but there are a couple sponsors I want to promote that unfortunately don't offer nopop links.

The confusion for me came from the fact that TGPs and LLs both say the same thing, but actually mean different things.
