Dell Desktop Computers?

Are they any good?

I need a PC for the kids to play "The Sims2" on, and I've heard that the minimum spec. for smooth running of that game is quite high.

Any thoughts on Dell appreciated. :)

I just bought one so i dont have to fight my 16 year old sister for the computer. I like it! |bananna|

We are considering a Dell for the kids also... they burned through a couple PCs already so we are going for bigger/better hoping that it will last longer...

If I can just get my 15 year-old son to stop downloading Britney pictures and viral screensavers we'll be doing OK. lol

Dell has gotten a lot cheaper lately. I don't think I will ever buy one again. And, after you order it, you have to wait and wait for them to build it.

Just go someplace like pcconnection and order one. It will be here tomorrow and it will be inexpensive.

My PC here in my home office is a Dell and I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed to.

I've bought one 6 months ago.
Running 24H a day, no crash, etc.. nothing to say just good computer for middle price.
I'm in europe and delivery was 7 days after i bought it on their website.

If someone gave me a a Dell for free!.. I would strip the components and then throw it in the bin! |pcsucks|

I ordered my son a Dell for Christmas last November. I watched the tracking and on the 20th of December, the date was changed till January 15th. I called them and they told me that the video card was on backorder. So, I told them to just put a different one in and they told me I would have to start over again. I bitched a little but decided to wait. I checked the tracking again and it said order cancelled. So, I went to http://www.pcconnection.com and ordered a sony at 8:00PM. It was at my door the next day.

I stay away from PC companies that brag about building your pc after you order it. It just takes too damn long.

I prefer buying local, you can get shit done quicker that way. Most locals have just as good if not etter and cheaper.
500-600 should get you what you want easy.

I agree that they have lost some quality and definately production speed. Gateway was the same. There will always be the top known company and they will reign for a time and another will pop up. Personally, being computer literate beyond the norm, I would never buy a Dell or any other major brand who is going to load it up with "bonus" crap like their support software among other things. Some people might not care, then again they probably don't realize that their top of the line PC runs slower than my old Amd Duron 1.3ghz that isn't overclocked. It's amazing what the average consumer who doesn't know better gets stuck with...don't get me started on HP either.

Do a little research, take the suggestions of those that have used the other sources and you'll be fine..I can't recommend a company as I build all mine from scratch....you'll probably be OK with the Dell as well, I'm not trying to say it will cause you problems, just that you aren't really getting the value that you would assume from the marketing of it all.

My main PC is currently a Dell. It arrived about 3 days after I ordered it and it was the best price that I could find. I did a little shopping at some local computers stores and chains. Either I found poor quality or systems that were just a little too propritary for my taste.

Before this Dell I purchased 3 Gateways (i lived close to a Moo Store) but there prices are wacked now.

This Dell has been fine and my old Gateway is running right next to me. 15 months on the Dell and about 3.5 years on the Gateway.

Have you thought about Mesh? I've always gone there for laptops and pcs.

Never had any problems and prices are very good. 5 to 600 quid would probably do the trick for the kids. :)

Thank you everyone for your input. :D

If I'm ordering for Christmas, I'd better do it this week.

Cheers! |santa|

Urb - Ive got three Dell desktops - I use one for the tanning salon, one at home for some online biz, and one for my MIDI setup for the recording studio - they all have had no problems, and the only complaint I ever had was having to wait three days for them to be delivered :)
