WARNING - ICQ numbers being stolen
 

This isnt a new practice... but two friends of mine(both adult WMs) have had their 6 digit ICQ numbers stolen in the last week or so..

I dont know if there is any secure way to protect them...... but at least make sure your password is a hard one to guess, and make sure your orig. email addy is secure, or get a new one

I am one of the poor saps... If anyone gets a msg from my old number it is NOT me... As Dave says - get your password retrieval email sorted out now. I didn't even know you could do this - it's been that long since I installed the bloody thing - back then any email you put into it was publically visible so I never entered one.

As far as I can tell this was achieved by hitting the icq server with change pwd requests from a hacked version - the pwd has not been changed from this computer.

If anyone retrieves it for me and I'll buy you a cheap bottle of scotch and rent you a loose woman (or man if you'd prefer).

I can only assume that some script kiddie is hoping to now onsell the number.

I cannot login - I cannot retrieve my password (well the new one - I know the old one) - I cannot reset my password. I can view my contact list - I can view my history. I am allowed to login until icq contacts the server and it says "oooooh no, wrong pwd" so I cannot get that number online.

The thief will be able to access my contacts list and therefore use it to assume my identity. This is very very fucked...

There is now way that one person could have this many low digit icq numbers - the fuck is obviously a thief and ebay/payfuckingpal are happy to watch it happen... show a nipple and you're the devil but petty thieves are cool according to them.
