After a SUCK week I woke up to $70.

Had a suck week last weeks pay period.

The week prior I was 1:609

Last week I went to 1:2356 for just 2 sales so $70 :(

I checked my stats quickly before bed and still last week's stats.

Woke up and logged in to see the same $70 there. Hmm. They haven't cleared out the stats from last week, I thought.

Then I clicked on the Periods stats which starts today and TA-DA! I made 2 sales since I went to bed. |bananna|

I don't think I ever woke up to see money in the program. That's fuckin' sweet! |roses|

Of course, I am prepared for the stats to take a massive shit again, but this is the biz until I have a large cache of sites and steady traffic.

I'm gonna start building for other sponsors too. I got too comfy with one and have a month worth of sites with them.

Think I'll hang around 4 sponsors and submit 5 sites per week.

This spreads the risk a bit.

Build more, check your stats less.

The month before last was a record month for me. Last month was only 1.96 short of what I made in the month before.

The only reason that I know this is because I keep a spreadsheet of my income and expenses. Basically the mailbox at my front door is the only stats that I really check and with e-pay type payments I'm trying to even do away with that.

Honestly about once a week I'll check stats someplace unless I'm just really bored and all caught up with work and I'm just clicking no things because I really should be doing something else besides being at the computer.

I tend to login as a routine just to navigate to their message board plus to snag advertising materials...

Same here, best month ever. Did $8000 with one sponsor alone (check sig he he). And things will only get better on the run up to Christmas.

I tend to check my stats daily with certain sponsor, but this is only to check on how well my ppc campaigns are doing. The majority of my sponsors (umm appx 15 others) I check at them end of the month when I'm doing my accounts.

Stats-check can be addictive and waste loads of time. JUST SAY NO! LOL :)

Alphawolf 2004-10-04 03:15 PM

I'm not stat checking. Honest. I just got back from food shopping and went to the gym...logged in to get some content and I'll be god dammed...there is another $70 in there...$140 today so far. |shake|

I wondered if perhaps I got listed at RR or some other new traffic source, but nope- same traffic.

Maybe after people take care of all their bills end of the month they feel they can go get some porn?

Dunno, but it's very neat to see sales POP up like that a month after ya make 'em.

Kath 2004-10-04 03:26 PM

Congrats on the $140 today (so far... don't want to jinx making more)!!!

It's hard NOT to stats check - I'm with you there, but it's like watching the pan for water to boil, or weighing yourself 3x/day while dieting - it's NOT a good idea and it doesn't change anything. All it does is stress you out.

Try holding yourself back at first to once a day, then every other day - then ween off to once a week. You will obsess less, build more and be surprised at how much more $$$ you will make too!

CONGRATS again - WTG! |waves|

plateman 2004-10-04 03:39 PM

I'll admitt for a while I got into a bad habit of checking my sponsor stats to often but I am getting better..

And sorry to say Havent been building anything lately.. been busy doing clean up work on my LL like redoing metas and setting things to expand 20 more cats and a few other extra cats..

I think when a newbie starts to gets going, he soon finds out there is really not much time to check for sale stats - but I check server stats daily to my LL..

Alphawolf 2004-10-04 03:53 PM

LOL. I'm really not checking stats just to check stats. :D

I only have 1 sponsor right now. I'll start to build some sights for TCG today and mix it up with my current sponsor (pimproll) day to day...

PR has 64 sites and I need to login to see what I'm in the mood to promote. They are also constantly adding new stuff to tours and launching new sites.

Way bad to have all my eggs in 1 basket though. Will do some TCG sites...like some of their stuff.

Actually I think stats checking is a good thing. Maybe not frequent stats checking but at least weekly or twice a week it's good to keep an eye on your ratios. One of the keys to success in this business is swapping out and rotating banners. Once a sponsor starts to suck, replace it with another. Then when that sponsor starts to suck, you can try your original again.

Stats and traffic evaluation is important.

Alphawolf 2004-10-04 04:32 PM

JenC,

About the sponsor sucking...

How long would you give a sponsor if they suddenly took a nose dive compared to previous pay period?

Like in my case above- the sponsor was doing OK for a month then took a massive shit- sales dropped 500% last week.

Now, out of the blue with no traffic changes- BAM...same sponsor, same sites, same traffic and it will be my best week to date in my short FS career.

In my case I'm using sponsor content, so I can't swap out banners.

I guess after several hundred free sites and galleries one can get a feel for what should be consistent sponsor conversions.

Sometimes shit just happens. :)

It will be nice to use my own content and be able to just yank banners in the near future though!

Bill 2004-10-04 07:15 PM

There's definitely a pattern of surfers buying at the beginning and middle of months, when they have a fresh check in the bank.

Sales with sponsors go up and down all the time- one slow month doesn't tell you anything.

JenC 2004-10-04 07:29 PM

Alphawolf - Bill just said it the best. Every month is going to have ups and downs. I've had months where I've made seriously nice money and other months I've sucked ass but still kept the same sponsors.

My rule of thumb is let a sponsor ratio go to 0:1000 or 1:2000 before you chuck them. And just because you're having a crappy month with that sponsor, doesn't mean next month they won't convert at 1:100. There really is no science to it, if there was, we'd all be rich. It's a lot of trial and error.

andrej_NDC 2004-10-04 07:56 PM

Im a stats junkie. :) I saved hours per day when I bought statsremote, I was sooooo against such program, but now I enjoy it pretty much. I have 34 active programs in and have it turned on the whole day.
BTW congrats to your $140, keep up the good work. :)

Carl 2004-10-05 01:01 AM

I used to like looking at my stats untill I stoped making $$ :P

Now I just like to look at my traffic and bw |sad|

bdld 2004-10-05 02:16 AM

i'm a stats junkie, i check my stats countless number of times every day. i just keep the windows open and refresh to see new numbers.

Read the rules

Mishi 2004-10-05 03:24 AM

My stats make me happy when I'm making money; miserable when I'm not. It's a catch 22!

I've finally reached a point where I check stats once a day; grab the report and record any sales to a spread sheet. Takes about ten minutes, max. I get happy when I get email reports about sales, but I no longer immediately go off to check on the who/what/when/where/why. It's taken a LONG time to reach this point, but I think I'm more productive now.

These days I'm much more inclined to waste time - er, spend time - checking my internal stats. That at least puts things in my hands, to a degree. ;)

eksites 2004-10-05 04:24 AM

Statistically, though. . . I mean, if you've ever studied statistics, you can't really judge a group until you've had a large enough sample. And if the party line for conversion rates is, say, 1 in 400, 400 isn't really enough for you to know. It's hard enough not knowing what our population size is here

You're going to have to throw 10-15 times that at something to really determine if it works.

I'd assume it would be different if you had a qualified base of traffic that has always converted at a particular rate, but. . . it ebbs and flows. 1 in 400 doesn't mean one every 400 . . . it could be 3 today, nothing for 2 weeks... after 15-20000, if it's still at 1/10000 that's something to bitch about... but I definitely think we got to throw a decent amount of traffic at these sponsors before we make judgements.

At 1-2000 hits . . . 1 lucky signup throws the whole ratiio. It's just tough when you're a young network and it takes a week to get 1000 sponsor hits...

but that's just me blathering. Sorry. |violin| |violin|

Yeppers. That's the thing. Perhaps in a year or so the waves won't be so choppy if we plug away.

grzepa 2004-10-05 11:27 AM

Congrats on the $70 over the night - its a great feeling :)

I have to say Im a stat-addict :( Like Cleo said , its a waste of time, I know I should forget about them and just build, submit, do my own projects etc...but sometimes I just cant help myself :(

Pornstar Dames 2004-10-05 11:37 PM

Move away from the 'top sponsors' go more niche related I dont have a ratio more than 1:250 for sites i promote actively thats with 85% tgp traffic.

Those ratios of yours arent to good I used to get better on free hosts saying that trials didnt have the charge backs they have now.
