search engine news
Two big news items on search engines:
1) the guy that invented overture has just come out with a new search engine http://www.snap.com/ - it is supposed to be innovative insofar as it is designed to give end users more direct control over their own results. This is the start to localized searches! 2) MS has just released a new preview of their new MSN search engine, check it out at http://techpreview.search.msn.com/ - MSN is an up-and-coming search engine that is likely to have a MAJOR impact on searching once it is fully integrated into i.e. browsers. As I have said before, its important to look at what is coming out and embrace these new engines, if you can get on a top position you will be able to ride the wave for months if not years. cheers, Luke |

Pity both return crap results and/or the same results as Goog..

Thanks Luke! Not sure what I think of Snap yet, but it's definitely a different kind of search engine. I just might like it.

The MS will get a ton of traffic that is for sure. Bill Gates has a million ways to make sure you end up on that one. I would look for a "MS Search Bar" to start getting bundled in IE.
The results are pretty poor, but better than Yahoo I would say. |
yeah, the results on the msn preview are a bit suss right now! I thought that snap results were ok, more like yahoo than google.
cheers, Luke |
Well, microslop has been threatening for a while, and I guess it is about to come due.
MSN is one of the largest ISPs. Microsoft has 85%+ of the browser market. Trust me, this one will be HUGE, and it will affect they way we all make sites for the years to come. snap, well... I have seen many nice ideas that never catch on. No reason for it to catch on. Alex |
It wouldn't surprise me if MS just included a search bar that uses their SE in their next verison of windows. That would be a lot easier than opening up a browser and typing in a url then a keyword.

MSN search will be big, but who's to say they won't palm off the adult searches to NightSurf?
I hope they don't but being the money driven corporation they are, I think they may. |
Good to see Snap reinvented - although agree that the Ask Jeeves and Yahoo results are predominant - its a lot better than the original Snap SE 5 years ago
