Link back question

Say link list owner lists a hosted free site from Chop's Cash on their teen.html - Traffic to chop from linklist. Okay, on chopsmiths.com/index,html, say that I place a link back to the link list - Traffic back to linklist. Will it help with search engine rankings?

Greenguy 2004-10-10 07:58 PM

Probably :)

What would also help the webmasters sending them in would be if you had that link list listing all the hosted free sites that you had & we linked to it using http://www.linklist.com/?123456 :D

Search engine rankings for who Chop?

You or the LL?

First off.. I am not a big fan on recips on hosted stuff.. If I send them the surfer to a FHS, then I expect them to look/buy or come back via the back button or closing the window.

If you look at what Google has listed of your hosted stuff..

http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...om&btnG=Search

Goog picks one of the "versions" of the site and ranks/lists it.. but then devalues the others as dupe content

(635824 is a lucky bugger :D )

So..... as the sites themselves would never be ranked all that highly.. I dont think there would be huge benefit for either end.

Knew I was not going to ask this question in the correct way. Last time I looked, chopsmith.com has a PR4 and I did not think that the Alexa traffic rating was to bad. (chopsmith is at PR3 today). So ya'll listing that hosting stuff must help chopsmiths.com rankings. Is this correct?

I agree. I even quit putting that $Webmaster$ bs on the sites. The recip I am asking about adding would be back to ya'll on chopsmiths.com/index.html. And no I am not fool enough to think that you will get tons of traffic from a link back so yeah I guess it boils down to I think it might help chopsmith.com.

I am trying to wrap up a project that I think is unique and could be beneficial to both my affiliates and me.

Hey, 635824 lucky bugger. It might not be as unique as I thought.

As always, I do appreciate the help I get from ya'll.

I don't think this would benefit your site at all. The only benefit I see is the "free" link you are giving to the other site.

Damn, I am really confused. If it links and link backs do not help help in building SE ratings, then why require recips on submitted free sites and galleries. It has been stated many times here on the board that recips do not produce much traffic.

Links TO your site help your site. The recip link to my LL helps my LL, not your free site.

At Alexa yes... based on users with the Alexa toolbar coming from our sites to yours. Alexa bases it measurements on the domain name.

There would be little direct benefit for http://www.chopsmiths.com/ as the sites(FHS) we list dont link back to http://www.chopsmiths.com/

Yes this would be of benefit to "us", and some small benefit to you :)

This would be good;) but not neccesarily beneficial in the SE's because of the query in the line...(see first post)

If you wanted to look for direct SE benefit Chop.. then create the LL(much as you have at http://www.chopsmiths.com/index.html) and [b]YOU]/b] will get the SE benefit. You could then create a mirror for affiliates to link to as per what GG said above.

eg: http://www.chopsmiths.com/aff/index.html

Wrong... Links to authoritative sites can help your site in some/most SE's

Wrong.... as above,.. plus the use of keywords in the recip/s can assist your (free)site.

Also FYI ...

http://www.chopsmiths.com/ - PR0
http://www.chopsmiths.com/index.html - PR 0
http://chopsmiths.com/ - PR3

It's not a prob... Goog just hasnt found the first two as equivalent to #3 yet..

If you continue using http://chopsmiths.com/ for links etc.. all is good ;)

DD,

Based on what you just posted, I have not wasted two weeks of time. I feel much better. It is 4:25 AM here so I think I will take a nap. Perhaps I can finish the code tomorrow and by late tomorrow night do some "show and tell"

Most definitely agree - and looked over by most - its one of the "factors" that play a part in your placement in the SERPs - and in the last year has played an even bigger part than ever before
