Console Free Or Not?

Just wondering if anyone sees better ratios using console free tours or not. I started testing out the console free option on one sponsor and noticed a much improved ratio of conversions. Granted it's only been a short time - around a week or so, but the improved conversions made me take note.

I always felt consoles piss surfers off and make for less sales :)

entry pop-ups can be bad for ratios, but exit consoles are fine, you dont lose any traffic, the ones who dont like the site can choose a similar one on the exit page. But of course, if you use revshare and dont get credit on the pop-ups, dont use them.

I use both. I get more clicks to the join page without consoles but the ones with consoles convert better. Sad but true.

what have consoles to do with ratios on the site? and what types of consoles do you mean?

I know that if I go to a site (any site, not just porn) I get annoyed if a console pops right off the bat & I tried to not go to those sites if I didn't have to.

Poping them when the surfer leaves - especially in porn - is probably a good use for them & since they were leaving anyway, why not try & get them to click on something.

Of course, now that I have a pop-up blocker that just notifies me when one tried to pop, I could care less :)

That's the thing. Why cut your earnings in half or leave any money on the table when more and more people and services are implementing pop-up blocking.

The sponsor I've been using has 1 pop-under that gets past Google's toolbar- not sure about SP2...when you exit the site you get more pop-ups. But no browser resizing.

I don't see anything in FireFox...no po-unders or pop-ups on exit. I've seen Mozilla growing in the browser stats.

I say take all the money you earned. :)

I prefer no-pop-up tours or only one pop-under when leaving...

I actually try to avoid sponsors who bombard the surfer with consoles; I believe in the long run all it does is teach joe-bloke-surfer not to click any paysite links in fear of a browser crash!

Recently I came across quite a number of consoles popping up despite my pop-up blocker...

I hate the fact that so many programs pay something like $10 less for sign-ups from the console-free link - only comes to show how much revenue they can shave from consoles!
I also hate if consoles cross-link to other programs, in some cases advertising sites I chose not to advertise in the first place.

exit console is fine but sometimes surfers prefer a console free tour...

I stopped using popups when Internet Explorer started blocking them by default. Now that only a tiny percentage of visitors even see them, it doesn't seem worth the trouble to add them to my code.

I like exit pops, but it does seem self-defeating to toss pop-ups at them the moment the surfer enters the tour. As far as pop-up blocking goes, keep in mind that we are smarter than Mr. Joe Surfer. We do our OS updates and virus scans in a timely manner cause we hear all of the horror stories. A lot of surfers have never even heard of SP2. Christ, I don't can't even tell you how many broadband users I've met who don't have a firewall. My point being, use those exit pops for a while longer. Who know how long it could be before the public wisens up. Plus, there are plenty of brand-spanking new clueless surfers every day!

I agree with Andrej.....altho I just started in the biz....I have tested 1 month with and 1 month without..and seems like the exit console converts better then the no console. I used to surf porn a long time ago before i entered the biz and yeah the enter pop up console pissed me off!!! right away when i see pop up I close the pop up and the sponsor page right away just incase of those multi pop up. But with exit console....I think off it as an extra page to promote the sponsor.

Tricky007 2004-10-13 10:00 AM

We use only console free tours - if we have the choice on that sponsor.
I think it depends on the source of traffic too.
One one exit console is acceptable, but some launch an enter console before you get a chance to see the sites - I think that is bad business - again i depends.

So in short, use consoles if it's exit only - else CF if you have the choice.

I totally agree. Now that I'm in sales, I like working with exit consoles and no-pop tours. I've run into some companies that use wayyyyy too many pop-ups and u can't close them fast enough.|angry|

Yeah...$10 is quite a chunk of change you lose on a console free sale.

At $10 less per sale the ratios needs to stay a steady 33% (roughly) better to make it more profitable.

Entry consoles do suck...let them enter in peace and if they don't bite....throw one at them then. I'd like to try for ARS's new $40 payout but the consoles they throw at the surfer might scar them for life. I might try their $35 console free tours which ain't half bad.

Kinky 2004-10-13 11:21 PM

just a word to te wise.... TURN OFF your pop-up blocker and check before you promote any console free tours... sponsors know that 99% of webmasters have good security on their comps and they still pop consoles on their "console free" tours
