The 2257 link

I'm having people put all kinds of crap on there 2257 link. :(

The 2257 link needs to go to a page with just the 2257 info. No ads, no consoles, no popups.

I'm blacklisting people who put ads, popups, consoles or any other crap on that link.

Greenguy 2004-10-12 11:35 AM

Anything to make a buck - I too think I will blacklist these morons.

Surfn 2004-10-12 11:35 AM

Same here |sad|

MadMax 2004-10-12 11:46 AM

Same here. Some people just need to be beaten back into the stone age.

plateman 2004-10-12 11:47 AM

Been seeing that for a while and just been rejecting for being stupid - but banning thats a little harsh, maybe the second time..

Ramster 2004-10-12 11:48 AM

Yes I agree. Have a link to your site for a surfer that might find it but no ads, no popups or other crap. My 2257 page is a PR3. LOL

Not really. Today I had one that sent me to popup hell requiring a force quit of IE and another one that downloaded crap to my desktop.

Actually I'm seriously thinking of going paid submit.

plateman 2004-10-12 12:30 PM

That goes with the job - LOL Thats bullshit.. I am getting tired of being a dam link investagator Like I am the FBI when these people you dont know submitt.. And I am thinking about going semi private and you know what the other half will do..

Reviewng sucks because of all the bull shit that goes with it and I bet most all LL will be private submitts..

Jim 2004-10-12 12:33 PM

It's about damn time people start getting blacklisted for this practice. How much money can that link generate for people?

While I don't believe anything will come of the new 2257 rules, I still don't think one should test fate :)

swedguy 2004-10-12 12:34 PM

Is it completely pointless to add a comment in a rejection letter?

I try to add a reason to every rejection, just so they know what to change. But the next day, I get the same shit with the same mistake.

Then I changed the subject on outgoing mails so they wouldn't miss it "Site reject WITH comment". Nothing happened.

Maybe I should add comments in French, Russian, and some other usable languages :)

Carl 2004-10-12 01:35 PM

While you are all talking about 2257 links... If some one uses free content, would a link to the sponsors 2257 page be good enough?

Cleo 2004-10-12 02:53 PM

I don't even care if there is a 2257 link. Actually it is more of a pain in the ass for me since it is one more fucking link that I have to click.

I don't care what your 2257 page says but it should have nothing but 2257 information and No Ads, No Consoles, No link to other pages, Nothing but 2257 info or something that tells Bush and his gang to go fuck off, But No Ads or Consoles period.

If you want to link to a sponsor's 2257 that is fine but this page should not have No Ads and No Consoles.

As far as rejection mails I'm not really sending them out anymore since most of the time they just instantly resubmit with the same errors so WTF is the point?

MadMax 2004-10-12 04:45 PM

I'm lucky in that (so far) most of my submitters are pretty good. My script automatically sends "decline" emails and it's easy to add reasons. I do find that a surprising percentage of submitters never validate their submissions by clicking the link in the submit email I send out....perhaps most of the real cheaters never get past that stage. Unconfirmed submissions from anyone I don't know just get deleted after a few days.

Agent 2004-10-12 04:52 PM

I can't wait to get my blacklist script implemented. =)

I have some revenge to reap on the asshats that make running a link list frustrating.

I figure it's better to have a 2257 link to the sponsors 2257 page than not in this day and age.

I just hope sponsors don't start doing anything funny with their 2257 page.

I'd really like that for the better lists.

Greenguy 2004-10-12 05:43 PM

You know, oddly enough, if you put your 2257 URL on the page WITHOUT actually linking it, that is legal :)

Alphawolf 2004-10-12 05:53 PM

You mean just put in the URL as text:

2257 Info can be found at http: //www.foo.com/2257.html

2257 Info whateverdomain.com

Simple unlinked text :)

Greenguy 2004-10-12 06:08 PM

Exactly :)

Makes me thing that I should put that rule into place - then again, it also makes me think about the hoops we jump thru to curb cheaters & their habits.

Alphawolf 2004-10-12 06:59 PM

Maybe you should just go to paid submissions/partner accounts. ;)

Greenguy 2004-10-12 07:13 PM

Believe me - I've thought about it & it may come to that :D

Tart 2004-10-12 07:22 PM

when building sites, I always put a the url for the 2257 in text.. don't know why I got in the habit but it's stuck.

I'm going to invitation only on my linklist. I had stopped taking submits because I was sick of the crap sites and am finally getting around to setting up my new script. When it's done, I'm going thru my database and contacting my regulars with an invitation to start submitting again.

I can see alot of lists becoming much pickier before much longer.

Rorschach 2004-10-12 07:32 PM

Slightly OT, but if it's bot going to be OK to link to a separate 2257 page, is it ok to link to your root domain and the free site index page in the footer? (which is something I see quite frequently). It seems to me that free site domains that are internally linked together benefit everyone.

Carl 2004-10-12 08:10 PM

There are less than 5 link lists that have enough traffic that would make most people want to pay for it.

So if every one goes to paid submits they will have to limit the number of people submitting to increase the traffic so people will pay for it.

If they do this the Link Popularity would go down, and the SERPS would change update to update and the site would get less traffic, and then people would not pay to submit to them because the still free link lists would gain popularity because of the mass number of submitters?

LL can never be the same as a paid TGP submission because they are C-J sites to keep traffic?

This is what I got from an IRC chat when I brought up the topic of LL paid submissions. This is correct?
