Question for Cleo
Cleo... since you are using LinksSQL as well, how are you doing the reverse lookups to find out who the webhosts is for domains so that you can check them against your ban lists? I noticed a post on their website from you. Did you go with a paid plugin, or am I just missing something already built into the script?
|
That post on their board was for a plugin that shows the submitter's IP.
For looking up a host IP use WhoIs. I have a custom ban list that Andy from their board wrote for me. I also have a few other paid and free plugins from Andy. |
Ah... is the custom one that the same one he is selling now?
I had though you had had something that ran at the time of submission which did a reverse lookup on the domain and checked it against the ban list. Oh well! |
I think he is seeing it but it is pretty much custom work as he has to go in and modify the script itself.
He did spend a lot of time with me debugging it before he got it working correctly so I may have been the first. It is worth what he charges but it only does domain names. |
OK... thanks! I may look into it as my submission numbers grow. I have bought some of his other plug-ins, so I know his work is good ;)

I can not begin to put into words the praise that I have for Andy.
What other plugins are you running? |
The recip link, check empty categories, count impressions, filter words, and also had one which would prevent people from capitalizing entire words in the title, but I had to disable it because it kept making BBW and XXX like Bbw and Xxx (just doesn't look right that way)
|
I'm still messing with the one that changes case.
I'm trying to fine tune its conditional properties. Title:ALL:IFUPPERCASE:40%, Description:FIRST:IFUPPERCASE:70%, Accomodation_Name:ALL, Resort:ALL, Country:ALL I looked at the The recip link plugin but wasn't sure how well it would deal with all the hosted stuff, paysites, and the fact that over the tears I've let people use a variety of domains that all point to my LL domain. The Duplicate_Check plugin stops the same site from being submitted more then once. I also got the Data_Import plugin so that I could get my old database into Links SQL. It also does work very well if you can get hosted stuff in a file with title and descriptions. |
Yeah... I use the duplicate check as well.
With the recip link one, I have it set up so that special sites which are not required to have a reciprocal link won't get deleted when I later check to make sure they haven't been removed. It's also great because it checks for the reciprocal link at the time of submission, so it has to be coded into the submitters page before they ever submit it. |
