Damn, now I have to spend a bunch of time submitting sites. :D

Thanks for the info. :)

DangerDave 2003-10-02 08:14 PM

Still get intermittent DNS errors...

But I did get thesubmission script to work 5 times. :)

Gotta be happy with that |pink

They must have found a new source of funding. I haven't tried them since 96 maybe I'll try them one more time. I don't think they forgot me though |jester|

Submitted a site last week and the "thanks" page didn't show up. So I contacted one of the Editors who was kind enough to confirm the site was in the queue.

Once they have their dbase and hosting sorted out I think everything will be cool.

My personal opinion is that they were doing dbase maintenance and you can't really backup and fix something if you are still taking submits.

I have no idea how they run Dmoz, but it seems to me that they have a core of good editors and a load of people who sit back & enjoy the PR from their profiles. :)

'Sit back' is an understatement |zzzzzzzzz
I submitted to them almost 12 months ago now!
The category in question has been edited 3 times in 12 months:
Twice to remove 'old' links & on one occasion they added 3 links!! |banghead|
God only knows how many are waiting in that queue!

They probably have a backlog the size of Yahoo! itself. :)

The people reading this thread are more likely to be submitting to the Adult section of Dmoz and to be honest, you are submitting to the most effective team of editors Dmoz has.

I have submitted many sites to Dmoz into many different sections and the response time for the Adult section is light-speed in comparison with the regular categories.

Dmoz is a very important link to get and I think it is well worth being persistent.

DMOZ is such a funny thing, over ranked, overly important to the rest of the world, and seemingly unimportant and uncared for by Netscape / AOL / etc. The bastard child that doesn't even get the hand me down clothes, so it seems.

Last rumor I heard was that all of DMOZ is less than a handful of people actually getting paid to work there and to care for everything, everyone else is a volunteer of some sort.

It stuns me to see the level of importance that is attached to something that the owners apparently don't give much of a shit about themselves.

While being frustrated as everyone else, with the DNS errors, broken forms etc..

I think DMOZ does a fairly decent job... almost everything I've submitted gets reviewed at some point and listed.

You can find out where you submission stands at http://www.resource-zone.com/ just by asking.

Yes their backlog is huge in some cases,
Yes their are under-resourced,
but I get listed after time so I am happy with that.:)

Who has/hasn't applied to be an editor?

heh if you have anything to do with the adult internet and they know it you'll never get approved as an editor....

All of the newer editors in Adult appear to come from the surfer side rather than that producer side. After the last big cleanup of editors, they pretty much have decided not to let any of us porn pigs into the game anymore. I applied a number of times, turned down every time... even though I run link sites and review sites regularly.

I dunno.

DD, you see anything getting added recently?

Alex

DangerDave 2003-10-06 07:24 PM

I would disagree Alex, the only new editors I know are definitely adult webmasters, some of them are a bit "new" to the industry.. but hey I don't run DMOZ..

I have definitely had sites listed in the last few mths!

If you want to know where you sites are up to.. Go ask at... http://www.resource-zone.com/ - You have to apply for the Adult area.

They will tell you where your site is in the queue, help you to apply to be an editor and generally answer any queries about DMOZ.

..they know about the server problems... so don't ask them that;)

Hi Alex
I applied to become an editor a few weeks ago and got accepted. Whilst not as 'well known' as you are in the biz, I have a reasonable presence and declared all of my adult affiliations in my application.

The editors I have come in contact with are working their butts off to clean up and catch up.
