Need help from Whois Pros

Hey guys and gals

I have a situation.

I was looking at my stats, and backtraced a yahoo search. I like to see what search terms were used, sometimes.

Anyhow, I come up with this http://www.stealthfilmz.com

I think they have somehow copied a site that belongs to me.

http://www.pleasetakemycherry.com/

But I don't know, because this kind of stuff confuses me.

This is the whois stuff I came up with:

Registrant:
Stealth Filmz
PO BOX 1839
Beverly Hills, CA 90213-1839
US

Domain Name: STEALTHFILMZ.COM

Administrative Contact:
Stealth Filmz
Kelly Nelson
PO BOX 1839
Beverly Hills, CA 90213-1839
US
323-876-7959
323-876-7960 [fax]

Technical Contact, Zone Contact:
Stealth Filmz
PO BOX 1839
Beverly Hills, CA 90213-1839
US
310-652-9119
310-652-9339 [fax]

Domain created on 08-Jun-2000
Domain expires on 08-Jun-2005
Last updated on 07-Jul-2003

Domain servers in listed order:

URL1.BUYDOMAINS.COM
URL2.BUYDOMAINS.COM

Now, the affilate codes on the site have not been changed. I also don't use this domain for anything. It is just up there, in case anyone stripped the URL of the few non-nude galleries I have out there.

I know enough to know that they have somehow copied things, but that is about it. I don't know if action is required on my part, or if tracking it down would take more time than what it is worth.

Advice on if I should take action and if so, what, would be greatly appreciated.

Selena, Are you in the US?

Call them! 323-876-7959 and ask them to take it down or further action will be taken.

If they dont comply.. hit them and their host with a DMCA..

Yes, I'm in the US. I thought to email them, after I had gotten advice from you guys, as I hadn't a clue what I was supposed to do.

What is a DMCA?

~woefully ignorant~

better explanation and tools than I could give ya :)

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) allows copyright owners to notify hosts, billing companies, and others providing services to websites displaying stolen content, of the infringement and request that the infringing content be disabled, removed or discontinued by the service provider.

its how you can get a theif by the "cough" balls.

Good Luck, hit me up if you need help with anything as well

~starts to read~

Hey Dark Ember, good to see you, and thanks, btw.

What I don't get is how I figure out who the host is for this person. When you look at the whois, it shows *my* host and IP number.

So what am I not looking at right?

Thats the host. If you use whois.sc for the lookup, click the IP address listed near the ip location and you'll get this list, the ip info/host etc.

selena 2004-10-24 09:46 PM

Hon, I didn't make myself clear. That is what is confusing me so.

Because Webair is *my* host. The IP that is listed by whois is my IP, that Webair assigned to http://www.pleasetakemycherry.com

DarkEmber 2004-10-24 09:58 PM

They have the same host/ip designated for that domain name which is odd. Either they used you to park their domain or they typoed their DNS servers or they happen to be on the same server that you are on at the same hosting company. Their nameserver url1.buydomains.com shows that ip as the listed IP so that is the right IP that they chose to use. Contact your host with that info and see if they exist on that server with you (assuming shared hosting) and if not, then you can work with the registrar they used to have them pull the domain from your content. The registrar is listed as www.domaindiscover.com.

Could be just a mistake, but its definately interesting to say the least.

DarkEmber 2004-10-24 10:23 PM

based on the info I PM'd you, and the fact that I can hit the site via straight IP w/o the domain listed, I don't think its theft but more a typo or something weird like that someone put in the wrong IP. I can't see how pointing their domain name to your site without having control of the data can do much for em at all.

Good luck, the registrar should just park it to their space with enough info from you IMHO.

PM answered and returned.

~leaves thanks to DD and DE and goes to work~ :)

~ties up the thread, all neat and pretty~

According to my host, that domain used to be hosted with them, so odds are Dark Ember is correct, and it is the result of an error, not a malicious thing.

Efforts are underway to correct the problem.

Stouch 2004-10-25 02:07 PM

I would suspect its some error. Normally if you type in a domain owned by buydomains it goes to their sales page. They also used to have a nifty trick that popped their page when you looked up their whois details.

I suspect they would be pissed if they found your stuff on there as its a missed sales opportunity for them ;)
