Eulogy for America from Russia
Pravda - new out of Russia - amazingly perceptive and well thought out article about the state of affairs in the US
one small pop-under(not malicious) http://english.pravda.ru/mailbox/22/...5_euology.html |
"To those in other nations who read this eulogy, who are still mystified by how swiftly a once great nation was transformed into a neo-fascist nightmare, and how easily a man as hateful, hypocritical, venal, bloodthirsty, warmongering, sadistic and deceitful as George W. Bush was converted into a paradigm for "moral values," all I can say is that millions in the late United States are pondering these same questions."
Why don't we have journalism like this here, where it it needed? |
A chilling article, which almost perfectly captures my feelings about what is happening to the US.
A shame it's in Pravda, which has become pretty much the National Enquirer of publications in Russia. But it was a beautiful rant, and I loved it. |
It sums up my feelings as well, but I would like to know more about the author (David R. Hoffman). A brief Google search shows nothing more than his Pravda.ru articles (let's face it, the front page looks a lot like Weekly World News) and a brief mention that he was once a Professor of Communications (no alma mater given).
He has a long history of profoundly pessimistic anti-Bush articles. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that - just trying to figure out what his cred is. Because if he doesn't have any, I want to be next in line for an editorship at Pravda.ru, so maybe people will start listening to me. ;) |
I used to have people send me copies of Pravda for me to collect. From what I understand it has been fighting for its life lately.

Hit the nail on the head.

very good article. But while I agree with the many points lined out in it, I disagree that it is a euology. I don't think those virtues which have made America great are lost forever, just hidden and pushed aside for 4 more years. This country is resiliant, and so are her people. The national attitude will tire of the half truths and lies of this administration and I believe that their party will suffer a backlash in the next mid term elections and then the following presidential race.
But with as many Americans that voted for Kerry or Nader I believe we are still a strong, even if strongly divided, country :) spaz |
I like Bill Maher's idea about letting the south secede and taking Texas with them :) (though 140 years late, but better than ever).
