I'm the last Veteran in my family

I've been thinking about this all day
On my mom's side of the family my Grandfather was born in Wales immigrated to the States as a Child
He fought in WWI his sons fought in WWII and Korea then me and the only fighting I did was a couple drunken brawls
My Dad's side of the family goes back to before the Revolutionary war, solders in every generation up to my generation then just me.

Not sure what it means, it just never dawned on me before|rasta|

I'd look at it as meaning that your ancestors helped build a world where a smaller percentage of the population has to fight. |roses|

Or... our ancestors killed so many people, there just aren't enough left to fight.:D

Or, we and our own particular ancestors have fought enough that it's time for some other families to step up and take on the challenge we all have risen to. Fuck, after 50+ generations of fighting the good fight (whether we really believed in it or not) we're fucking tired.

Being Scots-Irish and a descendant of the McPherson Clan (you know, the clan that brought Scotland William Wallace) my family ancestry has fought and lost life quite a bit. I don't for one look forward to the day that my nephews and nieces continue that proud tradition - hopefully I am the last in the genetic line to do so for a while.

All that being said, I am proud to be a veteran and I send my most heart felt appreciation to all veterans, regardless of nationality on this day because each of you stood up and took on the burden that so many could never imagine.

I have the proud honor of calling William the Conqueror "Grandpa Bill" (granted, a few generations removed, but hey...).

I don't know what, exactly, that has to do with anything. Which should pretty much be my tagline these days.
