my first site

I've been reading the boards here for a few weeks trying to pick up tips and tricks to build my first freesite.

Can somebody take a look and tell me honestly what they think? I'm not done yet and I still have to add banners to the enter page and work on a link page and webmaster page but I was hoping to find out if I was on the right track and if you had any advice for a newbie. http://www.hotcamstars.com

I'm also really confused when it comes to link lists and how they work.
Thanks DocHolly for pointing me here.. |shake|

Mandi,

Well, it should fit in 800x600 without causing any scrolling.

Some of your thumbs may be considered blind links.

Your galleries don't contain thumbnails to larger pictures.

You need to supply thumbs to actual pictures. Unless webcams have different rules.

Surf some lists in that category and see what others do.

Hmmm.... That may work if you already had some traffic to throw at it.

But if you are new to all of this then you will have to make sites and galleries that fit the rules of who you would be submitting to.

You almost have the free site flow there. But you would want to use smaller thumbs. And would have to link to full size pics that match the thumbs instead of linking to a sponsor.

Also that banner on top will not fly because it looks like thumbs too. And you are usually limited on the amount of ads you can have also.

You can use GG's rules and stick to them so that just about every other list out there will accept your sites:

My original advice was to surf, read, watch, and attend OTB.

It hasn't changed.

Hope your re-location went well and you are up and kicking ass.

As Amadman said, you almost have the flow of a free site. Greenie's rules are pretty much standard for alot of linklists and is a great guide, however ALWAYS read each list's rules... and check for changes to them.
I accept sites with webcam snaps, smallest dimensions being 320x240 and of decent quality. Several other linklists do too.. believe there is a thread on the board somewhere about that.

Personally, I would not make your main index (domain.com/index.html) a free site, but a hub listing your links and free sites instead. Surfers will often go to the domain name to see what's there so put that traffic to work.

Good luck :)

OK I read through the rules and thats not real hard to follow I guess. I'm curious though, he says nothing promoting Epic will be listed. Is that pretty common? Is there a reason why webmasters don't like them? I have quite a bit of their stuff on my page and I'd rather change my stuff to different content if there is a issue with them.

Mandimorgan 2004-11-16 02:23 AM

OK I messed with my gallery a little bit.. is this better?

Ok... First off this type of site is not listable on linklists.

It is fine to keep what you have but to get linklist traffic you are going to have to build a 'special' site. Then if you wish you can link to what you have now from it.

As I said before you have the basic skeleton for the site needed.

Warning page
Main page
2 or more galleries of ten or more pics.

But remember

3 ads max per page.
pics don't open to html
no new windows
no blind links
and all the other standard rules people pointed out above.

So what you need to do is get some content. Either buy some or promote a sponsor that offers free content that is not over used. Read up on standard linklist rules. Then make a new folder on your host, make the site as above and link straight to the pics. You can then link to the site here from it if you wish.

My sites are pretty basic but here is an example:
http://www.cuteage.com/sites/tits/index.html

Also I noticed on some of your pages you are just changing height and width tags to make thumbs. This is a very bad idea. It makes your page slow and costs more bandwidth plus it usually looks squished. I seen a pic in there that was over a meg |sad|

Oh and as for epic. If you want to get listed on LOR and a few others then you may want to avoid it on the sites you submit.

So I hope that is readable and gets you more on the path. ;)

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish, too.

Your pics open to HTML pages and most tgp (places to list gallery's) wouldn't accept them.

if it is gallery, it is not good
good one http://www.pure-amateurs.com/tgp/v1/...=id176856&t=i1
if it is a trading traffic site, you need trades
www.xnxx.com

your site may be made for SE, but I dont think it will have success

Hi mandi,
I'm a newbie but in case you're still working on this site here are a few things I noticed:

http://www.hotcamstars.com/index.html

:: You should relocate the page to some other url e.g. http://www.hotcamstars.com/babecams/index.html and save the root url for building your hub page (a page with links to a bunch of sponsors).

:: Your child protection links (Cyberpatrol, etc) should go to the actual urls. My preferance is not to display them or just display their base urls but not make them actual links.

:: When you're using banners, you should always add text below, above them, or both to entice surfers into actually clicking them. Nowadays, if surfers just see a banner by itself, chances are they won't click on it.

:: Find a good non-adult sponsor for your exit link. Don't give away your traffic to Yahoo or Google, they sure don't need it.

:: Use mouseovers to simplify outgoing urls to the sponsor's base URL (but don't hide the entire url).

http://www.hotcamstars.com/main.html

:: You have a banner up top that hides the target url with a mouseover javascript. That's a major no-no :D

:: I can count 4 outgoing banners on this page. Although many LL's will accept 4, I prefer to keep outgoing links to 3, since many LL's prefer max 3 outgoing links on any one page.

:: This page doesn't fit in a 800x600 resolution screen. When I write free sites, I set my screen resolution to 800x600 and check my sites using both IE and Netscape to make sure there's no horizontal overflow.

http://www.hotcamstars.com/gallery1.html

:: There are 6 outgoing links on this page (15 if you count the thumbnails) :p You need to cut down to at most 4. I prefer just 2 to sponsors and 1 to my hub, or 3 to sponsors.

:: The thumbs lean to the left; they need to be centered.

:: You have target="_..." in your HTML. You need to get rid of them.

:: The thumbnails need to be linked to actual pics. e.g. Not doing this will get rejected by every LL that I know of.

The simplest advice I can give you is do some surfing at LOR to get a feel for what most free sites do and don't do.

Also, I write my free sites using Textpad, or sometimes even Notepad :) Programs like Front page can really mess with your HTML. Not to mention it's hard to learn HTML when you're starting out, if some program is writing it all for you :) Writing by hand almost always guarantees that my site is clean, anyway. (For example, you have a javascript that does some kind of page resize on reload, not sure if you put it there or if some program put it there for you).

In any case, your first site looks way better than my first site :p

here is a question about warning pages....

if a surfer comes from GG for example he should have already seen a warning page at GG's site.

is it then required that every site GG links to must have a warning page as well...?

I mean the surfer should know when he click a link from GG's site he will by 99% going to another porn site :)
